1:35 - 1:38. I'm sorry but that is simply not true. When the sun dies, it liberates hydrogen, thus reducing its mass. Therefore, the gravitational force which is applied on the earth is lesser, so our orbit will expand too. This extra distance will compensate the sun's growth.

@Efray007 It won't be enough though. THe majority of the suns mass will remain, and while it may become less dense, the mass will remain fairly similar. Therefore our orbit changes would be on the basis of a few millions of miles, which os nowhere near far enough to escape the red giant's heat.

@Efray007 Technically you are right. But the majority of the star will condense into a neutron star which will have almost as much mass as it previously did. The change in mass will not have any very major affect on our orbit. The uppermost layer of the star will expand out and probably engulf Earth anyway.
