Therefore, the US needs to increase the punishment on drug users to make it not worth the risk. Some good points have been made already. The center of gravity for the cartels is the US consumption of drugs. Simple supply & demand. Therefore, the US needs to increase the punishment on drug users to make it not worth the risk. Also, the US needs to enforce the immigration laws it has & come down hard of employers hiring illegals. This is not about being anti-Mexican. The threat is very real & it will only get worse in time. God forbid the day US troops die on our own soil (again).

$30,000?! you must be talking about the price of a machine gun in usa and thats only that expensive because they arent allowed to register them for civilian ownership anymore, so there is a select number in circulation and no more can be legally made. if you are military you get them for considerably less, infact an m16 is just a full auto ar-15. the mechanical change and difference in cost to build are quite miniscule. theres no way they would get away with charging 30 grand for m16s or m4s etc

The fact is all theories are true. The cartels get high-tech weapons from the USA, because there are companies in the US making cutting-edge new guns, and they cost bucks, and the govt does nothing to stop it, so get real. The US also buys the drugs, and the DEA CIA and FBI dont stop it, even though they could if they wanted to.
On the mexican side, it's an inequal society, with a catholic religion that keeps people stupid. Calderon stole the election. Sure its their fault as well.

well they're purchased in the u.s. made in the u.s. they're american companies, and our laws allow people to buy them. you can't go purchase a gun legally in mexico laws are different. and besides there is no need to move guns from mexico to the u.s. they could just go buy them here.

The type of weapons the cartels are using aren't ordinary run of the mil guns. law abiding citizen can't even own them without extensive licenses. The machine guns they're using can cost upwards of 30,000 dollars. You dont find gernades at your local gun shop. Instead of just listening to the media telling you the guns are coming from us what type of information are they backing it up with? any documented cases of mass exportation? don't worry ill wait.....There has only been one documented case
