  • and now kodak is broke

  • Man they need to make a cable channel where you can re watch old commercials along with the programing ..lol call it the retro channel

  • lol on the gm and ge commercials. the guy from the meister beer commercial is hot though, even now!

  • 5:00

    My PE teacher LOL

Everytime someone brings up this commercial, he denies it

    WE NOW HAVE PROOF >:D

  • the snickers guy was my pe teacher GO MR SIMAN LOL

  • OMG! Chevy Sprint...my first car in 1995! HAHA. I started driving at 22. Late bloomer LOL!

  • 5:35 McDonald's Biggest blonder every! They lost soo much money! They picked events that USA would never win at, but then..... The USSR boycotted the 84 Olympics and that was it! US won gold after gold !! And McDonald's lost millions hand over fist!

  • @tdrewman And "The Simpsons" made a chapter with this blunder... obviously using the "Kusty Burger" brand (the chapter when they told how Lisa S. was born)

  • Even though that Chevy Sprint was really ugly looking, they had the right idea with 53 hwy mpg back then, wish Chevy would bring it back with a new and improved look. Especially with our sucky economy in gas.

  • @uscgwife1 The Sprint was made by Suzuki and sold in America by Chevy. Even back then only the Japanese cars got good gas mileage.

  • @uscgwife1 and it's not even a hybrid!! what happened to our advanced technology? lol

  • 06:55 the workers return to work safely, lol more like the workers sue the hell out of their employer!

  • Lol, the snickers guy was my pe teacher last year, lmao

  • @bluewhale8888 The video URL must be passed around by alum and students of the high school...I don't even have his name down in the description.

  • @bluewhale8888 he was my pe teacher last year and he's my pe teacher again this year!

  • @bluewhale8888 I kinda want to ask him if he even like snickers

  • "Datsun" is a much cooler name than "Nissan" will ever be.

  • "The GE Electric refrigarator, only slightly less creepy than HAL."

  • Sounds like the guy from the water polo team in the Snickers ad said "I don't really think you could crowd any more penis into a snickers bar," at the end. LOL

  • In the Aetna commercial: That's Frankie Faison as the welder who says, "Aetna, I'm glad I met ya!" Right?

  • Wow. I would have been just under one year old when the '84 Olympics aired. What lame ad jingles they had back then. Sheesh

It's weird to think that back when these commercials aired there was still a USSR.

  • I don't care how cheap your beer is, comparing the taste to Budweiser's (aka slightly flavored alcoholic water) is not the way to get me to try it.

I guess I never realized that the Krusty Burger Olympic promotion was based on an actual McDonald's promotion. I wonder just how much money Mickey D’s lost that summer.

A lot of good being the official bread of the Olympics did--I've never heard of that brand.

  • Dick Van Patten and his All-American smiley-apple-pie family...lol.

  • I was 15 years old in 1984 my mother died that year so I have blanked out pretty much everything in 84 - 85 and most of 86 but for some odd reason I remember these commercials, just goes to show just how good the pros are that make them they make sure the jingles stay in you're head never to leave even for someone like myself who was going through alot of greif at the time thanks ever so much for these commercials they let me know not all is lost to me from that time.

  • @AdamCartwrightMyLove I am sorry to hear of your loss, as I can relate as well. I was 2 in 1984 and I am surprise to have remembered so much. I especially remember the coke commercials in this vid, ironic because I have always hated coke lol.

  • @FSinatra1982 , thank-you.that's pretty good to remember seeing how you were only 2.It's funny sometimes what we remember and what we don;t.

  • @AdamCartwrightMyLove So very true :-)

  • @0:47 whoa.. I don't remember that Chevy sprint gave 47/53 MPG!!!! what happened to it lol

  • The McDonald's Olympic scratch off game is actually a funny story. McDonald's purposely loaded the cards with events that the Soviet Union excelled at (of course, they put in a few events we succeeded at, so there would be SOME winners) Well, the USSR boycotted the 1984 games, and as such the US DOMINATED the games, and McDonald's had to pay out a lot more winners than they thought. IIRC, They lost a raft of cash on the promotion.

  • OMG! That guy sat on a TV! 4:12 You can't sit on today's TVs without breaking them! LOL!

  • These are all so rad...thanks for the nostalgic flashbacks!

  • Oh gosh.. Mr Siman hahahahaha :P thanks for posting this.. it will always make me laugh to see my swim coach in a snickers commercial :P.. and mustaches don't really matter in polo.. haha :P

  • Finally! I found My swim coaches snickers commercial!!!!!!! YAY! >.< hehe. . he thought he got rid of them. Hey 80's commercial vault~ at the swim banquet we got him snickers footie pjs that were 6' 7 feet tall. he laughed. . . and he still has the mustache!

  • Yummy, Graig T. Nelson in a uniform.

  • I was 2 years old when that Diet Coke commercial came out, and I just saw Christie Brinkley on a toothpaste commercial and she looks the same.

  • Shit, man, July 30th, 1984 was the day Metallica's Ride the Lightning album came out (according to their website)!!!

  • Hahaha! my swim coach is in the snickers commercial!! lol he still has a mustache

  • Buy him a snickers bar for me.

  • Yea!! Xerox Square 14644 ????? I think that's wrong, downtown Rochester.

Y does it look like that woman's hand inspecting the front car bumper look like a deer's paw?? Woman were all so skinny in the 1980's.

    RCA = piece of CRAP!!

USA had Olympic fever in 1984 'cause it was in L A .

  • who doesn't want to get shitfaced after doing some carpentry?

  • Secretaries? Oh no, now I know we're in the 80s. Nowadays it's "administrative assistant".

  • Okay, Miss Secretary.

  • It was sarcasm, ass mongrel.

  • sorry.

  • It's all good. I just wouldn't think anyone would believe that I care that much about a stewardess. They're also ass mongrels.

  • I remember that diet coke jingle!I also remember when those cans looked like that!Shit,I feel really old!LOL!

  • Gee the typewriter Ad comes up a lot in these commericals from 84

  • uniflow? sounds like the name of a transformer

  • "recommended by doctors and pharmasists. AND THEY'RE RIGHT!" :D

  • The minute that Diet Coke ad came on, I realized I knew every single word, after all these years! Crazy!

I like the old pull tabs on the beer cans.

Oh, and check out these lyrics from the Kodak commercial: "Like a brilliant shooting star, reaching for the sky." WTF? Sounds like poorly translated japanese poetry.

  • Oh, yah, I think the kid in the robo-fridge commercial is Cary Guffey from "Close Encounters of the Third Kind"

  • hahaahah, mr. siman. oh goodness.

  • Omg! haha it's Mr. Siman! haha 5:06

man he looks hella younger.....dats funny. Had him last year for P.E. & he's mean...& he still has da mustache...haha

  • wow! commercials as old as I am!!! woohoo!!

  • MR.SIMAN!!!!!

the guy at 5:06 is a PE teacher at my school! ahahahaha

  • Haha...what school do you go to? He must be about 55-60 years old now!

  • Good luck finding Diet Coke in a glass bottle these days!

  • "I don't really think you can crowd any more penis into a Snickers bar" 5:28

  • Wow this brings me back a few years, check out the earth grain bread commercial at 7.07. Look for the big weight lifter in red thats me a lot of years ago. The bread wasnt too bad ether. Thanks for posting it I was in a couple commercials during the Olympics.

  • GM government motors now & days lol!!!

  • very cool!! takes me back!!

  • Your right about the 'probably some others'! I vaguely recognize some of the other faces in the Diet-Coke ads. (Example: the one-man-band in another play list was a stand-up comic, or something!)

And funny you pointed out how this was just before Coke's famous gaff of trotting out NEW Coke! Part of me died then!NOTHING was sacred! Worst of all, my first job was in a supermarket, and ALL DAY long I had to here the customers vent! (Like it was my idea!) Besides, it tasted like Pepsi!

  • I remember the giveaway with McDonalds during the Olympics. I won so many fries and Big Macs.

    USA! USA! USA!

  • Man, they should make a talking fridge. Like when I get hungry at night, it would tell me, "What the heck are you doing here again?? Hey! Put that ice-cream back in the freezer!!!

  • remember in 1984 a lot of our competition (i.e. USSR) boycotted the games...mcdonalds gave away a lot of free food and prizes...douh!!!

  • Kaopectate...relief within 24 hours???

  • After seeing that commercial I have to go boo-boo!

  • wow, I was 13 mos old when these aired

  • now not to nitpick, but the swimmer in the snickers commercial, wouldn't he not want that bushy hair and stache...i always thought swimmers were supposed to shave and have no body hair.

  • Someone shaving their mustache...in 1984? No chance.

The mustache is probably what helped him win.

  • lol pretty strong argument =p

  • hehehe the electronics dept at Kmart! My uncle worked their in the late 70's early 80's

  • "aetna...i'm glad I met ya!" That's none other than Frankie Faison of "Wire" and "Coming to America'" fame. You fellas will love my place, apartment 1-A..It's REAL F@#d up!! lol

  • I have consumed plenty of meister brau in the city 20 years ago never saw an advert for it / usually on sale at sloans supermarket but laughable now to see this thanks captures the essence of this you tube

  • Ha! We totally had a Datsun station wagon when I was a kid (i was 4 months when these aired, by the way).

I vaguely remember asking if our car was special, because it was the only one I had seen with the "DATSUN" stamp still on it.

Also, I totally remember both the Diet Coke and the Snickers jiggles/taglines.

  • That Kodak commercial was great, as was the "Call to Glory" promo...it's surprisingly how effective those things are with just music (the people who make movie trailers could learn a thing or two).

it's funny, I can't remember the last time I saw an Exxon ad; are they still hiding from after the Valdez spill? lol

  • During the Earth Grains commercial, I thought the guy with the swim goggles around his neck was cool.

  • - Damn that Oldsmobile 88 was huge!

    - That was the most hilarious bread commercial I've ever seen.

    - Regardless of if you like McDonald's or Coca-Cola, their jingles/commercials are incredibly good/catchy.

  • fuuuck weve advanced so muuux!

  • I love the Delta 88 commercial, I wish GM made cars like that again.. and advertised them!

  • Lots of classic jingles here!

And who isn't reminded of The Simpsons with the McDonalds ad?

"I thought we rigged the cards so that the COMMUNISTS WIN!"

  • John Siman (Snickers commercial, 5:05) was the water polo coach and freshman health class teacher at my high school in Ventura, CA back in the early 90s. He didn't have the 80s-tastic hair when I knew him, but the mustache was in full effect.

  • That's awesome! And that's good to hear about the mustache.

  • lol in the snickers commercial, i thought it said "I don't really think you can cut out more penis into a Snickers bar."

  • Lol, diarrhea control within 24 hours? That's not fast enough!!

  • huh huh huh huh huh, he said diarrhea!

  • lol the world seemed so much happier back then :(

  • i agree

  • love the olds commercial I only saw the commerical from 1985 with patten when they restyled the delta 88

  • How is it that Chevrolet was manufacturing a car in the 1980's that got 47/55 mpg, but today they can't sell a fuel-efficient car to save their business!?

  • The Sprint was actually designed by Suzuki as the Cultus, and sold as a captive import to the US market. Later on it was sold as the Geo Metro.

  • we have that refrigerator

    doesn't work like that LOL

it does beep but it's EXTREMELY annoying

  • i think the budweiser usa commercial is the work of cinematographer owen roizman and is featured in benjamin bergery's book on cinematographers called reflections: twenty-one cinematographers at work

  • LOL I was thinking the same thing with ur 2001 reference

  • Somebody please invent a Time Machine. I want to go to January 1st 1980 and then destroy the machine! :D

  • churlyryan, I agree with you. I would defenitely take also all my wordly possesions and my cash and my parents and aunt and all their things and their money. But I started thinking even if you leave this time for 1980 in

January 1, some way some how if you don't die before, you will reach this time again, but then again it will be so good to leave this time.

  • Did you see that Chevy Sprint commercial. 47 city, 53 Highway..If the big three had been making those cars all along, maybe we wouldn't be in the predicament we are in today...

  • They were selling them, actually I think its an import (made by Suzuki for GM). It had 3 cylinders and was a total POS, lucky if you saw one on the road with 50,000 miles on it! In 1987 I had a 83 Plymouth Champ (import by Mitsubishi) that I bought used for $1,000, those were the days, the days of being young and broke! It was better then the 74 Dodge Colt (another Mitsubishi) I bought used for $100.00 though!

  • But then again the 84 Oldsmobile Delta 88 got 25 mpg, and I still see many of those cars around even after 25 yrs! GM did far better on the mid and full sized cars.

  • That McDonalds commercial was the greatest.

  • Another volume well done, time child.

  • Oh man, I haven't seen that Diet Coke commercial FOREVER!

  • Aetna? I have that insurance. Pretty good. Didn't figure it was around then. lol

Oldsmobile Delta 88? My dad had that car and I hated it. Ugly car lol

    Also...I don't think I'd drink a coke after running a marathon. lol

  • Oh i see your uncle and aunt

  • you're great on providing these commercials....Is your dad the one who recorded these?
