  • Ill just go out there and deadlift 20,000 pounds. No big deal. Lol jk

  • The price money is just fucking disgrace.

  • 2400

  • i wish espn still covered powerlifting

  • This Camera man is a retard. You can't even see there form. I don't want to see their face!! Who cares about their face!

  • I MISS THOSE DAYS

  • It's too bad the sport of powerlifting never got a great foothold on TV. If some of the orgs had worked together, had 3 or 4 major meets a year on TV I'm sure they could have raised the prize money for 1st place up to 50 grand at least. That kind of dough actually makes it worthwile and would increase competetion and the popularity. I also think shirted benches have ruined the sport. Like me, most people just think they're a joke. Move to raw only and I'm sure people would take interest again.

  • Raw. this is how power lifting should be. Too many people now are afraid to show how strong they really are. Pussies. You ruin the sport. It became popular when people found out they could gain 100 pounds without doing shit.

  • Hey, can anyone tell me how much he weighed here? Or am I missing something?

  • @tastefulphrasing ed coan weighed 238-242 it fluctuated

  • Comment removed

  • hate how espn dumbs down everything

  • Who's Victor Naylekin (he took 2nd place)?

  • man scott was so young

  • only 10k? If you divide that by the hours of training it comes out to about $.50 an hour. Thats not counting the back and gut pains. You can find these guys in the gym at odd hours with full sweet suits on. back in a dark corner and not carring if anyone watches. Good shit!

  • beast

  • Victor Naylekin is HOT.

  • @Euadam God damn right, brother (:

  • how did scott smith get 3 white lights? It didn't look like he locked out.

  • very few look like they are locking out. I don't get it.

  • I agree, but the ref gave him a down signal? If the ref gives the down signal before he was even given opportunity to lock out then 3 lights were correct.

  • @bruce9241 he didnt but i guess they let it go anyways go figure

  • @bruce9241 American meet, American judges.....

  • @bruce9241 It totally look like he locked out, it just didn't look like he held it long enough. But if you look at the ref, he throws his hand down before he lets the bar down.

  • 10 grand and all that effort and sacrifice he put into it, and baseball players make millions by just siting on a freaking bench and doing nothing, just unfair.

  • @chumbulezco

i agree but it comes down to exposure and the natural of the sport. most ppl dont understand the work ethic these guys have and how long it takes for them do get to this level. I mean kids get out of college at 20, 21 and they have multimillion dollar deals waiting for them its sad but thats just the way things are.

  • people act like ed is the only one in powerlifting using. Please get educated

  • that's true, because he failed at drug test don't means he's the only to use them.

sure that a lot of "local gym star" take more than ed...

  • true. And im not saying that all the top powerlifters today take them but. honestly i wouldent be supprised. Bolton, mendelson, all them. And even if they did use so what... they all put up a shit ton of weight like that sam byrd guy putting up 1000+ at like 198 pounds INSANE

  • really surprised to see someone on youtube with a brain and who knows wtf they are saying good comment

  • no people act like ed was a cheater AND an amazing powerlifter. (you can be both)

many powerlifters take drugs, in some federations they dont give a shit and thats cool. but ed also competed in drug tested competitions vs athletes i know were natural. thus he cheated. just like many others have.

  • drug free means less than 1 gr of test a week ?

  • all these statement are bullshit, take all the drugs you want and try to do a 900 deadlift at 220.

i bet you can't whatever you do...

  • thank you

  • 5:10 ? that shouldn't have been approvable, his back wasn't straight and the ref gave him the signal to drop way too quickly!

  • I know that for a fact, but I was talking about Scott Smith. Did he kiss ass aswell? ;D It's a shame what they are doing to this wonderful sport. Cheating wont solve shit, u allways get caught in the end.

  • Have to agree with drugfreeathlete. Everyone knows Ed Coan is a coward that always tried to lift against the drug free guys instead of lifting against the non tested lifters where he belonged. The non tested lifters lift more than Coan ever hoped to lift. Ed Coan would've got 3rd or 4th place at WPC worlds at best. Scott Smith's lift was passed but you can't blame the lifter. There's shitty judging that goes on at most power meets.USPF was knwn as the Ed Coan federation caus they cowtowed to Ed.

  • Although it's said, one must agree with this 100%.

Ed Coan is a sorry state of affairs for the sport of powerlifting.

Coan's name will forever be tainted.

That said, Coan was one of the top 20 best drugged lifters of the past.

It's remarkable the new guys that are so strong now.

You can never accurately compare past to present, but of the past Coan was great.

Too bad Coan was barred from ever becoming an international hall of famer because of his doping that cost him dearly.

  • yes, but he's still as strong as f**k

  • that was to the wally who said he cheated by using steroids

  • ed coan rules for eternity.

  • isnt this video about ed coan not ronnie coleman?

  • on every powerlifting video someone MUST post comments about ronnie... i've only seen him doing 2 reps with 800 (2nd rep with bounce so it wasn't actually DEADlift...) so please upload a video where ronnie does 10 reps with 800 lbs! until then it's officially bullshit.

  • all you guys remember something here ed coan is one of the best power lifters of all time he has more records than most power lifters to day...all these new power lifters are new comers to the sport..ed coan did amazing lifts over the years like his 901 lbs dead lift....

  • ed coan is a legend

  • man ronnie coleman can wip their ass in deadlifting

  • You did see ed coen deadlifting 865 right? He would later go on to deadlift an insane 900lb at 220 bodyweight a record that I believe stands to this day.

  • man shut your ass up u dont know shit your juss talking out of your ass, ronnie coleman deadlifts 800 pounds ten times like its nothing,

  • I believe its 5 times, which is still insane. Even if it was 10 times that would not be the same as a 900lb deadlift. Ronnie also outweighs Ed Coan by about 100lb. I have tremendous respect for Ronnie's achievements and am not sure why he has an internet fan-base of male groupies who are all over his nuts and go all to tears at the thought of a professional powerlifter being able to outlift their "boyfriend" Ronnie. He, himself would say that he is not as strong as Ed Coan.

  • respect man, u do make sense, but hey!!! ronnie coleman is still pretty strong if he trains a lil bit longer he can be like those guys, ed coan is only a lil stronger, well if ronnie trains and trieds to improve his strength he can, but hey i do have respect for what u say its juss that i like ronnie hes the bomb!!!ok lets for get about ronnie, what do u say about magnus samuelsson world strongest man three times, u better not say ed coan is stronger,he broke mega mans arm in arm wrestling haha

  • For someone who devoted his life to bodybuilding, Ronnie is an amazing powerlifter. If he had devoted his career to powerlifting from the get go I think he would have gone down as one of the greatest. And yes I do think Magnus is stronger than Ed Coan. I remember the first time I saw the vid of the young Magnus breaking Megamans arm I was like "oh fuck!!!"

  • Hard to say, but Magnus is also a lot bigger. Coan lifted mostly in the 220 class and is probably about 5'7". Magnus is more like 6'6" and 345. They each train mostly for their own sport, which although weight sports, are still very different. And the arm wreslting break requires both men to have tremendous strength. If Maguns arm wrestled some wuss, the arm probably wouldn't break, the shoulder or elbow would get sprained instead. Coan is probably more dominant in his sport, however.

  • Its definitly a tough choice. Pound for pound, no one beats Ed Coan. He could also out squat and deadlift Magnus, but Magnus has longer levers. His long arm and legs, however, are to his advantage in most stong man events. Each ones build is suited well to their chosen disapline so its tough to compare them raw strength wise. I think Magnus' sheer size would give him a slight edge but its debatable for sure. Coan was definatly more domanant (make that unbeatable) in his sport though.

  • is COAN the strongest powerlifter pound for pound of all time?

  • Hes definitly one of them. However I do believe that a few of the lighter world class competitors (such as Lamar Grant and Tony Conyers) have totaled between 14 and 16 times their bodyweight. Grant was incredible, he could pull 700 at about 132lb.

  • Best deadlift in 132lb class is 683.4lbs.

  • well he is one of the strongest for his size that for sure but the question is..is he natural or on the juice very few people can lift what he lifts but no matter what ed coan is the greatest of all time and that is a fact..

  • Okay man ronnie comes from a powerlifter bckground, and i dont get your if he trains a little longer comment,he has dedicated his entire life to training, and he is 43,he is a freak of nature and is very strong. Magnus is an amazing strength athlete, but he has not won the WSM three times, he won once in 1998

  • Magnusson has been plagued by his bicep injuries.. I can think of 2 WSM were he was probably going to win, once with only 1 event to go then... he tears his bicep.. Magnusson is an exemplar strongman hes what every strongman should aspire to be like!

  • You're mistaken. Magnus Samuelson won once because the rest of the competition that year was poor. He has always had a weak back. He is terrible at deadlift and will be the 1st to admit it. Do you homework son.

  • Oh is that why he has made it to like more than 10 WSM finals? Unless the competition has been poor for basically 20 years I'd say Magnus is pretty awesome. Yeah he has a weak back relative to his awesome grip (he is one of like 4 men who can close the CoC no 4 gripper, he does it with 3 fingers) and and upper body power. Hes been in Finals than anyone, like I said before he could've won 3 titles if his bicep didn't tear.

  • ed coan is a real power lifter at heart i am 6 foot 280 lbs and i can do 880 lbs but of course its all about andro power......

  • thats it your weak i warm up with 900 pounds then my real workout i do 1200 pounds

  • Scott Smith´s deadl. was an awfull call by the judges.

  • x2. you can tell his hips didnt fire

  • Is this raw powerlifting?

Cuz I can do 735 raw and I'm not a powerlifter.

  • ah yes ? you can do that? well then go and compete if you are so strong and cool!

  • good video !

  • good video !
