  • Love it! Great post!

  • RIP Dick Kniss

  • When I was little, my mother and grandmother used to sing this as a lullaby to me every night.

  • I am so Blessed to have lived in this era--it was magic, & PP&M were wonderful. Wolfsky9, 65 y/o now.

  • when smashing, remember Burke the conservative...as to understand why one doesn't want to disrupt grandma and grandpa while changing the world.

  • If I had a hammer/If I had a sickle...X-D

  • Brilliant!

  • @jeff62rey Some of us are trying but most of us are too incompetant and had the world handed to us on a silver platter. As an 18 year old kid its a scary thought to think, you know when that guy whos worked for 65 years as a nuclear physicist passes away whos going to be there to give a crap? Were a generation of kids who frankly only live in the present and were on a path with no turning back. Its such a shame to say but were all damned to reap the paths that were sown years ago and today.....

  • Very very good.GOOD Nostalgıa

  • You young people still have just as powerful a hammer in 2011-2012 to smash this brittle, worthless idoi of corporatistic consumerism cheaping our humanity and bringing us to the real eve of destruction. Hammer it in your music, in your dialogues, and in your vote!

  • Confessions of a Dangerous Mind...

  • RIP Mary

  • I pooped a hammer

  • @Eledaraumar That had to hurt .

  • No

  • you know how mary always flipped her hair around and danced around on stage? i used to call those "mary moves" when i was about 6 years old and i used to sing this song in front of the mirror doing "mary moves"

    <3 ahh memories

  • @startrekkin1701 Maybe Mary Travers saw Ronnie Gilbert of The Weavers do the same thing when she (Ronnie ) Sang ?

  • When did it start to matter what age we were to listen to music?

  • rip , mary

  • My my my my, music hits me so hard, she's a very freakay girllll

  • Mary you had the best in harmony ...God bless.....

  • Is she Ukrainian?

  • Mary forever in our struggles, forever young !

  • Fucking Commies.

  • I used to think they were a group of great singers, but they were socialist (commie) idiots. but now that I'm 65, I realize they weren't all wrong. the country is controlled by the rich and political powerful. and I have a fair amount of money but no power. I feel for my children and grandchildren if things don't change at the top politically.

  • This is terrible. No where near as good as Albertina Walker's version. They don't have the vocals. Albertina does...

  • Im a REPUBLICAN, and TEA PARTY, but I support OCCUPY WALL STREET, and this song. RON PAUL 2012!

  • If I had a hammer and sickle.

  • Thumbs up if you just saw Peter Yarrow, Christopher Yarrow, and Bethany Yarrow singing this at #OccupyWallStreet!

  • THIS IS A COMMIE SONG.

  • What a vision! To be able to weed out hate through the rhetoric of folk singing. Makes you almost want to go out and pull out a few symbolic weeds in their honor... This is exactly what I did...I have started a grass roots initiative campaigning for the President to call upon every child in the world to root out a weed for expressing the global desire to weed out hate once and for all. Each time I hear this song, it makes me want to sing out: Let's weed out hate, and sow the seeds of PEACE

  • Quit with the political crap. I see enough of that garbage on the news. Listen to the music. If you like it great.........if not....go away. Just because PP&M sang during a politically charged time doesn't mean a thing. They sang for the people, not the causes.

  • @debbiedamooseful Don't think so. I'm 69 and I was there.

  • weavers====guthrie---- seeger---- joan baez---- harold leventhal--- folk era---

  • Thanks Pete! Love you always.....

  • If I had me a hammer, I'd either work for a builder, or I'd be Thor.

  • This is the song I play when I'm in my small apartment around 5am in the morning and I really get into. I sometimes go around hammering things for no reason and ringing some bells. Everyone in the whole complex seems to like it because they get up and start stomping around and making noise too!

  • Another socialist anthem

  • @rumblefishbone66 I'd rather be a socialist than a capitalistic PIG!! You are what's the matter with this country you tea baggin idiots!! You have probably at one time or another taken advantage of social programs and bitch about it all the way to the bank!! If you don't like the truth don't listen to it...you JERK!!

  • @08151949 I think you'll find Socialism is what's wrong with this Country. Socialists seem to think they're owed a living and want it all without any concept what so ever of how their particular Utopian world is going to be paid for. Socialists are dirty, lying, dishonest thickos that want the world to share their wealth with them but have no intention of sharing their own wealth, equally, with anyone else. You want to try using a few brain cells and try living in the real world... You JERK

  • @jimblob211 I know what you mean! Just last week I busted my ass for 40 hours moving boxes, fixing lights, cleaning the aisles of a warehouse and hoping that this lump on my side isn't serious. And then, my fucking socialist boss left me with just $200 after taxes, won't provide me with healthcare or sick day, and denied my vacation time, even though we made over $17k that week. Goddamn socialists!

  • @jimblob211 you know whats wrong with this country..it the people who think democrats are better than republicans are better than socialists..THEY'RE ALL CROOKS!! you think obama cares more about this country then george bush or josheph mccarthy? hell no.

  • I get chills listening to music this well performed and written. Lets bring back this era

  • @nick0523 I fully agree

  • @nick0523 OK, you start, and I'm right behind ya. I loved this era. I was young. We had P,P&M, Pete Seeger, BOB, etc. It was great.

  • @nick0523 YES; chills indeed! Dead right. PP&M were the very first act I ever saw live in concert, back in the 1960s. Cost me an intimitdating $15 back then!

  • I'm a fifteen-year -ld girl who knows that this is real music.

  • @DragonsNeedLove

    And be very careful.

  • @DragonsNeedLove congratulations?

  • I would not exchange them for a bieber, gaga, beyonce, or some rappers combined....man, this is pure. unadulterated music!!!!

  • If I had a hammer, I'd beat all hippies to death with it.

  • @falcondriver100 I am a hippy . But I'd kick your ass hammer and all .

  • @Cincinnatus1869 Ooooooh!! Another keyboard billy bad ass!! Love to see you try pussy!

  • @Cincinnatus1869 What should I do with your clothes when I'm finished?

  • @falcondriver100 cretin

  • @Cincinnatus1869 Ouch!! So hurtfull! LOl!

  • @Cincinnatus1869 right oon dude *paces peace pipe* im an indian hippi slash gypsy dude

  • Yeah, these songs are as relevent today as they were in the 60s and 70s. The lyrics show the strength of courage, to identify a problem, bring it to light, and show us a path to help in solving it. If we look at the political system today, and the inabilty of the todays political leaders work together on the simplist issue, and solved the problems with unbias compromise. It would be great to put them all in one room, for 24 hours, and make them listen to those great words of wisdom.

  • I agree today's music couldn't make it back then, music meant so much more, and for the meat dress, that is not the only reason shes famous, but i don't think she should bbe in the first place.

  • She always threw her head around so much, so she had to have neck and back problems later in life. I guess only medical people would notice that.

  • @blueberries4ever She can throw her head around as much as she wanted, her message is stll very powerful.

I love this group.Mary was a very beautiful and talented lady, the mixture of these three great artist were able to combined words, talent and beauty, to raise awareness about issues during that period. It still have the same impact today.

  • Mary Travers is unbelievably attractive in this. The happiness and the glow in her dark eyes, the bangs, the turtleneck, the explosive good health and vitality, the passion for what she's singing about--she pushes her voice to the edge, throwing her whole head into every lyric... takes your breath away, it really does. 27 yrs old at the time.

  • It was a time of hope. A conviction that we could do something about the war, Viet Nam, Equal rights. There was the smell of Pacholi, insense, flowers. What we wanted was PEACE and JUSTICE. We came close with "Governor Moonbeam, but then hard narcotics insinuated itself into the mindset and things were just not the same. The ONENESS demonstrated by PPM brought us all together. What our nation needs now is a similar movement or is it time for a revolution?

  • love between the brothers and sisters all over the world, and we all need to sing it out all over this land, this love is the love of Jesus Christ.

  • I worshipped her as a young girl. I love her in this.

  • @oldspam GAGA wore a meat dress... and she may be unorthadox and bizzare but she isnt famous solely because of her style. I agree that todays music would never last back then! PP&M is one of my favorites and i am 22. I love GAGA because she is different and she doesnt care. she is what this country needs in our struggles at this time.

  • Great Music from three very talented people. RIP: Mary

  • You're there.

  • I miss this.

  • she's captivating..

  • I just wish I could have been there...

  • 42 people hate the hammer of justice and the bell of freedom.

  • I remember when this song came out, it was the first song I learn on the raido from beginning to end. I might have been 3. I taught my children this song when they were small, maybe they will teach their own one day too. Thank You Mary, RIP.

  • I get the chills when listening to this. These people were just fantastic, plain and simple. RIP, good music

  • God, she was beautiful.

  • love this woman..some brilliant people have walked this earth

  • @TheFridgechucker she aint one of them!!!!!!!!!!

  • @padleynj: Please give my love to Pete..! They were (and ARE!) the BEST..!

  • Wow, Mary was so hot!!!!

  • I live on the Hudson River a couple of miles from Pete Seeger..we have the same Hootananny events as there was years ago. It is still inspiring.. Peter is 91 years old and still holds his ground!@!

  • I remember singing this song around the camp fires in the the 70's.... Times were so different back then. I'm glad to be a part of that era.

  • Love you Mary! Got to see you once in my life and I've always loved you. Miss you!

  • I will be going to see Peter and Paul in Novemeber it wont be the same without Mary though :(

  • I wish til this day that they made folk music like the 60s! There's nothing like it. The 60s was a movement for this country and it talks about the everyday life that I wish I could live!

  • Well said, tb30486...

Wishing you... all of us... days of wonder... all over this land.

  • It's so great that young people are hearing this music! Peter, Paul, and Mary were not just entertainers. For me and those I lived with, they were heroes..flames burning in the night to show us it's possible to create a world where the value of people around us is vastly greater than the value of the cash in our bank accounts..a world in which an injustice to the weakest among us is an injustice to all of us.

Listen to the music, DREAM, pick up the torch – there's still so much to be done!

  • @tb30486 Well said, AMEN...

  • @tb30486 VERY WELL SAID, IM AN INDEPENDENT NOW[ USED TO BE A REPUBLICAN] ALLTHE POLITICIANS RUINED THIS COUNTRY, WE NEED A MIRACLE....BUT WE HAD MIRACLES LIKE PETER PAUL AND THE GREAT MARY TRAVERS..., THANK GOD WE HAD THEM... THANK YOU LORD, PRAISE GOD...

  • Good but no match for Trini Lopez

  • @burnley5960number2

Much more passion from P,P & M than Trini Lopez singing and playing. Mary Travers has a much better voice, too.

  • What passion, conviction, engagement, harmony, stage presence. What a group!

  • i love them for ever and ever great from MEXICO CITY

  • This song works on so many levels it puts a huge smile on my face. It's a reminder just how much music has changed. What I like most about it is how ALIVE the music is. Today there are still many talented artists and great songs being written. But nowadays music is more about appearance and often slick and sterile production, while this, on the other hand, was just about great music passionately performed by a talented group. I miss the idealism, too.

  • What is with people talking during the singing? It is like talking during a movie. There are people who pulled the site in hopes of hearing the song, not a lot of talking.

  • NIEKRYTY RZĄDZI TO ON POSZERZA GUST MUZYCZNE XD

  • My 4th grade teacher who was the coolest teacher ever used to play this song nonstop in class and I was at urban ore the other day browsing through the LPs and found this record for 50 cents, and now I'm all "wooooo" and stuff.

  • Mary so beautiful-Pete so handsome and Paul so awesome. Will love you guys forever.

  • Bit befor my time lol but it still really cool :D

  • I agree,

  • @Champ1on23 You are the reason that music really sucks any more! No heart or soul to what's being passed off as somrething called music! At least when the electricity goes off I can still grab my guitar or violin and play something everyone can sing to as a group! This rap crap and head banger stuff just won''t do in the dark! Music isn't just the noise as it's become but something to feel in the soul. Try that with most of whats coming out. Oh it can't as there IS no soul to it!

  • @Champ1on23 You are the reason that music really sucks any more! No heart or soul to what's being passed off as somrething called music! • One of the best pure music videos ever. No fancy effects; no over the top wardrobes or sideshows. Just 3 singers in black and white singing a great song with great lyrics and having a blast doing it.

  • If my wife were sitting here, her words would be simple: "I love these guys!" Since it's me sitting here, I have something to say: "I love these guys!" =]

  • She was great

  • I left on a Jet Plane in 1969; thank God I made it Back.

Bring all of our children Home Right now and Defend our Sovereign United States Borders and at Sea, without a Congressional Declaration of WAR, since 1942.

  • fuck israel a country full of terrorists shame on you fucking americans for bank rolling them long live unions

  • HAMMER TIME

    Sorry couldnt resist........

  • he's simply trying to strip SOME of the bargaining rights of public employees only so they cannot bleed their government and taxpayers dry while whining about having to subsidize a small amount of their benefits like so many other public employees around the country; for the record I love this song and PP&M, but not so much because the message is controversial, I just think they harmonized remarkably well together; and for all you conspiracy theorists, how come Mary comes last in the names...

  • You really believe that corporations would only pay you $5 a week to work for them if it weren't for unions; oh that's right, corporations find it harder to make a profit because of wieldy regulations and ridiculous tax structures laid on them by those selfsame politicians that those glorious unions push upon us; you're going to have to do better than suggest the nation would crumble into abject poverty for the common man without unions, BTW, the governor of WI is not banning unions outright,

  • Communist rally theme.

  • @n2motocross - The song goes 'Hammer of Justice and Bell of Freedom'. Sorry but communists only had the hammer of oppression and the only bell they had was the ringing sound after the constant pounding of that hammer.

  • @emmthreejonny Sorry but this song was the socialist workers theme. In the name of "social justice"

Do you know what social justice advocates?

  • If you cannot fall in love with this girl - you are gay! _ I did nearly fifty years ago and she still is amazing - what a face! I can't bear to watch these latest vids of her dying years. Never will see anybody like this again.

  • this song give give me goosebumps especially when they go "oh after they say "all over this land"

  • Hard to believe that these were among the songs that were popular back then. Songs of justice, freedom, human rights and dignity. Songs against war - can you imagine songs against war being popular today when where told patriotism means following whatever the government tells us and putting a "Support Our Troops" sticker on our cars? When a governor can attempt to outlaw unions? When we support genocide of Palestinians? Today when profits are more important than people? Sing it out!

  • @thestoryplease This song is about communism plain and simple. I can spout my political beliefs too - I believe Palestinians are terrorists and I stand with Israel. When you say profits are more important than people, do you realize how ridiculous you sound when on the other hand you support the unions? The union heads take the dues and bribe our progressive politicians - with little regard to what the union worker wants while the corporations actually EMPLOYEE people. Wake up already.

  • @igglesgirl419 agree- I'm a union member simply because I don't want to have to deal with certain d.bags constantly badgering me w/ ""why ain't you in the union"? You're right -unions do what THEY want w/o regard to the wishes of the members. Shady at best.

  • @igglesgirl419 the cold war ended some time ago. Get over your communism phobia. Unions built the American middle class to where you and I could afford a car, family and home for honest work before Reagan, a corporate hack, started to tear it down. Yes, corporations hire people, but without unions they'll pay less and less. You want to work for $5 a week? Palestinians are fighting for their lives, their families, their homes, their orchards and farms. Wouldn't you? Support Freedom!

  • P_ss- on those who posted the 37 dislikes. They don't deserve PP & M.

  • Social injustice you say, how about fighting the muslim extremists who have vowe to kill us? I missed out on the free love you hippies had in the sixties and today it goes for a premium price. Shucks I missed out on Woodstock too since I was drafted as walking across rice paddies in Vietnam a grunt. Oh, well that life.

  • @wilcarr1 This song was written to stop union busting in the late 40's and early 50's. Way before the 60's or protesting or anything like that.

  • Everytime I watch this video I feel passionate again about fighting against social injustice and that change is possible and worth working for. Old hippies never die, but we do get worn down.

  • If I had a hammer, I'd hammer all the current music execs who insult our intelligence by promoting the crap filling our airwaves today.

  • @takfam07 Well said. I agree with you.In my opinion the 60's was the most unique and interesting time in music history.

  • @takfam07 Thank you for this comment!

  • Want to look into someone's soul? Check Mary's eyes and smile at 1:19-1:22.

  • my favorite way to pull the vibrations high!!!

  • No one rocked bangs better than Mary Travers.

  • @Souplesse000 this is a great comment!

  • I was listening to Pete Seeger and Arlo Guthrie singing this (on YouTube) and the chords weren't to my liking. Just didn't fit the song. Seeger's right in this intro. PP&M perfected "If I Had a Hammer."

  • woow !

  • Thanks for posting. Somehow we must get back the spirit of social justice and responsibility for each other that this song exemplifies.

  • I'm waiting for another generation like that one.

  • Excellent all around: Peter, Paul, and Mary sing a great song beautifully with fine musicianship and stage presence, complemented by good camera work and audio recording. Thank you for uploading this video!

  • i love the emotion in tis vid

  • Mary is just so captivating an absoulotely stunning natural beauty and the group sing the best harmonys ever !

  • thumbs up if puff the majic dragon got u into this song!

  • @ike22331 - Actually, I grew up listening to this song. I was listening to Pete Seeger singing this song before coming here.

  • Mary performs so powerful here, she reminds me of private vasquez in the movie aliens. ^^ Meant in the most positive way.

  • HIPPIE folk music..... its all about change..... 60's

and look where it got the world

  • @CanadaguyRudey -This was back when music was real music!

  • A great song but I like Trini's version better

  • One thing becomes clear watching these video, todays music wouldn't make it in 1963. Some singer wore meat as a dress the other day and that how to get famous today. If that happened in 1963 it would be called a bad trip.

  • @oldspam Well, maybe you hear something good here and there these days, but I'm young so I at least listen out when my friends have the radio, or a new cd playing. But damn! I've been listening to Bob Dylan daily for the last 2 weeks.

  • @oldspam Today´s music wouldnt make it today either ;) ha

  • I love this clip. Mary is absolutely fabulous. Such a voice and such emotion brings a tear to the eye.

  • Timeless......

  • She was just waay cool. She had a style and a look that was all her own. RIP Mary.

  • @overbrookXXX Wish I could find a girl like Mary today :(

  • @overbrookXXX Fer Sher, I cry still Mary-JW

  • This song applies now just as it did then.

  • Just give this one a "10" - simply wonderful.

  • Goosebumps! Mary is so gorgeous! Man, those songs were so great back then. Thanks for posting.

  • I'll tell you this, I listen to Amon Amarth, Slayer, anything psychotically heavy, but give me a folk song any day, or a guitar with a piece of straw in mouth, and I"m in heaven.Great stuff and thanks for posting!

  • F.F.C.H.S

  • das waren noch Zeiten

  • leider ist Mary zu früh gestorben. All over this Land

  • Bongo - couldn't have said it better. Oh to have that spirit and conviction today....

  • RIP Mary. This song defined the 60's. Passionate love of country, liberty, fellow man. Folks nowadays are scared to state these feelings. It was revolutionary then and still is.

  • I don't usually do this, but...thumbs up if you have a hammer.

  • 38 monkeys learned how to pick on red...
