I love the Occupy movement but I'm afraid that it will be hijacked and turned into another tea party. If those kind of people that were in that video (and in other recent vids by Adam Kokesh) get to be the majority in the movement, then the movement is in trouble.
Nothing short of massive investigations and tear down of the corrupt power structures will have any real benefit. At least they have identified wall street...there will always be misdirection and discontent over which is the correct direction and method to use, hence the Weather Underground off shoot of the SDU protesters that felt destruction and violence was the only solution, misdirected but at least people in motion. Maybe we will get it right this time, have more faith.
Didn't get to watch Heather's vids. I think it's good to just see people moving in the right direction, I was in a lot of the protests in the 60's and early 70's and they started much the same, more toward the war cause but corps were a target. At least they resulted in some good boycotts,They miraculously ended the war and a back down of the fascist push for a while. Same shit now but they have had decades getting whats happening now set up.
You have taken the words right out of my mouth. I have been watching the real life videos, (unedited) and many of these people appear to have no clue or real sense of direction. That is scary to me. Movements, protest etc, can be very powerful or can severely go bad quickly. I remember all to well 1970! I do not trust the gov and what retaliation they may take. Just IMO... Thanks for the video you said it very well! ;o)
It's not easy getting a healthy mind set in this over doomesticated society. I do like gatherings but following someone elses mind set is dangerous, especially when theres no "heart-set". Even worse when theres a ring of cult followers repeating the cult prayer.
As long as this does not into a campaign fest for the Democratic Party, I'm all for it. They are a bit naive...but let's see what happens. Conn, you buying into right wing talking points here...not good. Think bigger. The entire system is fucked up, so something needs be done. And yes, demands must be articulated at some point. This is not MOB rule, it is about coming to some consensus. They are naive about organizing, but man, give this time before being too quick to judge. Join us :)
You know how much I respect you Ella, but I have to disagree with your assessment. I am not "buying into right wing talking points", I am questioning what this occupation movements goals which I personally think is a valid question. You know me and you know that I know the whole system is fucked up.
Of course its not mob rule, but a bunch of people repeating something someone says doesn't really look like a consensus to me, especially when its a Simon says type thing.
You have seen my videos & heard me talk about marching on DC. I am not these people's judge & jury. I was telling people in my video, be prepared NOT to expect everyone to be in line with their views. People have to stay alert as well as stay open to others.
@mconn2112 Well, you do have a point Matt. I think is a difficult question to answer. I watched the video regarding the civil rights guy, Rep. Lewis. The question becomes: should ANY of our elected reps be allowed to speak at these events? And if so, wouldn't this align the movement with an existing party? In my view, this would be a mistake. At some point, and here we agree, the movement must make certain demands, instead of just pointing out what's wrong.
It isn't the job of governments to give people anything. It isn't their job to make jobs. That makes bigger government. When i cannot find work i make it. Do people forget that that is what made this country? Democracy is 2 wolves and a sheep voting what is for dinner.
I was at occupy Sacramento and I did hear some of what your speaking of..then I took it upon myself to speak and inform the crowd of the central banks role in the situation we all find ourselves in.I also informed them we are not a democracy we are a constitutional republic and what that means... I had alot of support from most of the crowd...we must be willing to speak and inform.....remember they are just waking up..
i suspect a media staging , so that main stream can spin a story on all the occupywaalstreet by using them as an example , thus spinning it to advantage of the 1%
Those kids in Adam's video look like they want student loan forgiveness and other free shit.
I'm planning on making a shitload of End the Fed signs and handing them out, sorta as a test on the group. There was a guy at the OccupyHonolulu yesterday I got a chance to talk to who mentioned the Fed with disdain. I am hoping he is representative of others. One thing was weird is that there were no "Federal Reserve" -type signs. I'm feeling very apprehensive about this whole thing....
i watched that video agape. those people seem to be there to assuage their consciences, not to effect changes. no one there is in charge of anyone, but they seemed to presume otherwise.
~agree with all you have shared/said!
