I loved Watchmen because it was something new and portrayed superheroes as normal people, I meen what is Superman going to do when he can't be Superman anymore, and that was fantastic! After I saw the movie I red the novel and I was astonished how well it followed the comics. I praise it as the second best comic movie, Tim Burton's Batman is my favourite, and one of the greatest movies of 2000s. And if someone is going to response I woudn't care to hear some stupid whining about Dark Knight, thx
At last I'v found someone from youtube who just says it's a very good movie and every movie doesn't have to be the same as Iron Man or the overrated Dark Knight, and for the record I really liked it but does it deserve the place of tenth best movie of all time in IMDb alongside with Inception as number nine? C'moon! And I'm so stupified when some people say that it was too hard to follow or boring, and that really shows how people can't even try to use their brains!
love when u said about hypocrite double standards.the watchmen is kinda too long (3 hours!yeah so was the titanic i guess). but people attention span just not as deep as some of us.something about roschach narrating seems to be like Willem Defoe in his film sketch in "Mr Bean's Holiday".Maybe people expectation was high for a moment, then seeing a movie talk about human nature more than "super heroes actions"made this movie underappreciated
Great point on ALL counts here. I never read the graphic Novel before I saw it. I had an slight understanding of the series based on what friends told me about.. I found the movie INCREDIBLY easy to follow, Flashbacks and ALL.
Aside from the deep meaning of the film, it proved something else. That Most movie goers are Brain-Dead oafs that need everything spelled out for them and don't want to think! I shudder at the thought of Michael Bay behind this film.
The irony of you defending Manhattan's wanger because it's desexualized and Manhattan is "out of touch with humanity" , and dissing on Let the Right One In for showing Eli's crotch... Eli being a character who is desexualized and out of touch with humanity... hmmm. Not raggin' on you man, just an observation.
@PompamooseMagique an observation that is misguided. Let the Right one in had sexuality involving underage children. that is a fact. if they were of age I wouldn't have given a shit. pay attention to my rants , I'm very specific with things.
@FuryoftheFilmFan I would argue there is little to no sexuality in Let The Right One In, and the shot which so offended you is NOT a sexual shot by any means. It only exists to show Eli's ambiguous nature. If anything, there's less justification for the sheer amount of dangling blue cock in Watchmen.
I don't know, I guess Watchman was a well made film but I can't say I liked it. I mean the characters in the film were pretty sorry excuses for heroes, and mostly all round unlikeable people.
About the ending, I was watching it thinking, where where these "heroes" during the build up to all of this?
@Disthron Well, if you understood it, surely you'd realise the main characters are supposed to be un-heroic? The whole point of the ending is they couldn't do anything about it, or they'd risk making the world the way it was at the start of the film again. The whole movie is about how the main characters essentially fail to be heroes.
@PompamooseMagique Isn't that pretty much what I said before? They're un-heroic, in effectual, generally un-likeable and as a result, I didn't like them or there story.
I'd tend to think that real heroes wouldn't have allowed it to get to the point it was at in the beginning of the movie in the first place.
@Disthron So you're saying you can only like films about heroes? I don't understand your criticism. You seem to just be saying the story is bad, because the characters are "bad" whereas the story doesn't exist to be a "good vs evil" type of story, it has a much deeper social point to it.
@PompamooseMagique It's mostly a charecter driven story, I don't like the charecters and thus don't like the story.
Also, they didn't fail to be heroes, they weren't really trying. Most of them it seems were just really pretending. Though out the entiraty of the film I cept asking myself, why did these "heroes" allow the situation to get so bad? Surely they were aware of the corruption going on. It seems to get to the start of the story the entire world had to be holding the idiot ball.
@Disthron THE WHOLE POINT IS THE EXISTENCE OF THE HEROES IS WHAT MADE THE SITUATION GO SO WRONG IN THE FIRST PLACE. Seriously, it's like talking to someone who's seen the trailer, or came in half way through the movie. Look, I don't mean to be patronizing or anything but maybe simpler fare is more up your alley? Spider-man is a good superhero movie if Watchmen was a bit too dark and weird for you. And maybe you weren't SUPPOSED to like the characters? Have you considered that?
@PompamooseMagique Maybe there was something in the book but in the movie it seemed like the world was going to hell just fine all by itself. They seemed to have very little overall effect. Also, the film was dark but it wasn't weird, I don't know where you get that from.
And yes, I know people are supposed to dislike the chars but knowing that dosen't somehow reverse the polarity and make me like that chars again.
@Disthron OK, I'm bored of trying to explain this now. But in a last ditch effort: Have you seen say... A Clockwork Orange? The main character, Alex DeLarge, is a serial murderer and rapist. This character is a deeply unlikeable sociopath, but it's not about him, or agreeing with him, or liking him, it's about the story, how it unfolds, and his role in it. This logic applies to Watchmen. Fine, if you didn't find it engaging or w/e, or the plot didn't make sense to you, but c'mon.
@PompamooseMagique I never said the plot didn't make sense, or that is was strainge for that matter, it's just that it relies on all the charecters involved being stupid, or in some instances laizy or evil or all 3 I guess.
I started watching clockwork orange but I didn't get very fare. I can't remember why I stopped watching but I do remember it felt like it'd gone on for ages but it was only about 20min or so in. I think they'd bumbed around it a weard club and then beat up someone.
@Disthron And as for "reversing the polarity" that's not the point! It's about why these characters became like this, why they aren't heroes, and the implications of what they choose to do when they become "superheroes" the characters were perceived to be seven different ways of viewing the world, and seven different codes of ethics for the audience to choose who they sympathized with. If you didn't sympathize with any of them then good, because that is a valid interpretation of them as people.
@PompamooseMagique *shrugs* I guess that's kind of interesting but in my view most of that stuff dosen't matter. They screwed up, BIG TIME, mosely becouse they were dooshbags and a lot of, mostly inocent, people got killed.
There was 1 quote from the wrighter "if the world was going to end in 4min, what wouldn't you do". This was very interesting. However this is short circuited somewhat becouse it's the main charecters that stood around and did nothing while the situation detireorated.
@PompamooseMagique fair enough, I never said it was a bad film, just that I don't like it. Also, I usually do use spellcheck I'm just using IE becouse it takes up less ram while I'm rendering.
I'm a huge fan of the grphc novel, but I didn't hate the movie. It doesn't try to be like the book at all, which was too bad. It copied the book "visually", but that was about it. Taken on its own merits the movie has some pacing problems, it has two pretty weak performances (Ackerman and M.Goode), but many of Moore's great ideas are there for us to enjoy. Rorschach and Doc Mnhtn were very well done. A very sophisticated story to tell, and Snyder probably was the wrong guy for this material
A very good director was offered watchmen, but wanted to set it in modern day iraq. Snyder was a huge fan of the book, I think he did a pretty good job.
I think the reason I didn't love the film is because the source material was so complete, I mean it was all there, words and imagery, and al fitted together so well. So the film felt just a little redundant, and I couldn't help but compare it, a lot of my favourite bits from the book didn't make it into the film and that was a shame. But the film certainly wasn't bad, and had some good moments- although the fight scenes seemed to miss the point slightly.
My main gripe comes from something my girlfriend pointed out, which is just how rubbish the sex looked! All the nods to the superhero costume being fetishistic and then the actual sex looked really boring!
This is amazing, I agree with you totally! Espeically the bit about Dr. Manhattan's penis I couldn't believe HOW MANY PEOPLE complained about that it was so childish and pathetic! Anyway very interesting to listen to.
I can't believe -no one- is looking into the fetishization of the violence in the film. I understand adapting and changing things - but the original work had a stark, sobering portrayal of violence. Pretty much the whole point of the work was to showcase people without superpowers going through these trials and tribulations. The bone-snapping, and Dr. Manhattan turning a guy into a big pile of goo are so completely against what the book was about. I just don't get how people don't talk about it.
I never knew there was controversy about this movie! I didn't love the whole thing, but I certainly did not dislike it, and loved specific parts (the opening sequence was amazing). I saw the movie alone and under-aged but I knew what I was getting. It's not as if the movie didn't warn you-it's bloody rated R. I didn't even really notice certain parts of Manhattan's nudity because the focus was supposed to be his character, not his bloody genitals.
@elppa284 I know right i loved the beginning sequence and I was self aware about the R rating, everyone I knew did, because they wanted to see it too lol but yeah its all about the character not the lets just say "things" on the character
wonderful rant fury. I am still shocked at the number of people that hate this movie. this is one of the greatest movies ever made. A Masteriece. i think that fans wanted this movie to be the watchmen film that was in their imaginations instead of judging the film on its own merits.
Completely agree with you, WM is my second favorite comic book movie (after Kick-Ass) and I'm still blown away by its amazing...everything, really. Very insightful and smart rant.
I saw it and was amazed by it. The sex scene was great with the Leonard Cohen music and all I can say is that Watchmen was the best superhero movie I've ever seen seen the 1989 WB flick Batman.
i dont get how people can say they didnt like the music. i just watched it for the first time and not only was the sound track one of the best i have ever heard, but what was on screen during each song, it all had to do with what song was playing, aside from maybe 99 red ballons. but i was blown away by the soundtrack i dont understand how folks can say they dont like it, even if the actual tracks do not appeal to them (if thats the case they have horrible musically taste lol)
finally some one with brains talkes about watchmen. Not some dumb ass fan boy who hates the movie all because they took out the ending in the book. Like you said fan boys are each others worst nightmare. I loved the book, and the movie i just want to say thank you for a great video.
Fury, do you plan on reviewing the directors cut? Because it may effect the pacing of the film quite a bit with the ammount of extra footage being added. Not saying that will nessaceraly be a bad thing, but it will have a large effect on the film as a whole!
My biggest complaint was there was too much of Silk Spectre. She was more of a minor character to me and cut screen time from more interesting and important characters. And that sex scene was awkward.
Bernard and Bernie should have had some more lines.
but I will say one thing; I only saw the blue penis twice, and iot wasn't that big or visible. WHat idiots are complaining? It barely even warrants a comment, it's so incredibly stupid.
For a film that posed so many intelligent questions; that hard-earned 18 rating through constant sex and violence thrown in the faces of the viewers was completely gratuitous, exploitative and unecessary. That was a shame that it had to stoop so low, and I think that's why some critics didn't like it. I go to see that shit from grindhouse and hostel; bad films. I expected to be intrigued by this film, and ended up only remembering stupid over-the-top violence, sex and the bad acting (from some).
Those complaining about the nudity and the sex scene in this film, i have this to say: HARDEN THE FUCK UP. Seriously, if you hate a movie because of something small like that...then you'r a fucking carebear who should go back and watch harmless kiddy shows. LOOK AT THE FUCKING MOVIE CLASSIFICATION NEXT TIME! -_-
Now, with that out of the way. No real words can reflect just how much i enjoyed the Watchmen movie, so i will just say this: WATCHMEN FUCKING RULES! WOOOT! ^^
I almost completely agre with you (the comparison with the naked statues in the museums: so true so true!) I wasn't that overwhelmed, mostly because it seemed Snyder himself hasn't understand the point of the story, but to give credit to where credit is due, this doesn't prevent the thinking audience from understanding it. Plus he did it in such a great visual way that it's easy to forgive him.
I enjoyed Watchmen throughly, and I'm glad I took the time to read the Novel First, otherwise, I might have made the same mistake as many moviegoers who didn't like it have. Everything about it was great, and as for Dr. Manhattan. For Crying out loud, it wasn't pornographic or anything. There was no closeups or anything. If people are focusing on a Blue Pipe, then it shows what they weren't focusing on: The Movie.
I give it a 9 out of 10 until I see the Director's Cut. Thank You, Fury.
one of my friends saw watchmen and he said it's the worst movie ever made, so not batman and robin or disaster movie but this? oh and if you thought the neil rosen thing was bad, Ben mankiewicz (the new host of at the movies) did his Top 10 worst films of 2008 and his number 1 was indiana jones and the kingdom of the crystal skull, Really indina jones (it's no masterpiece but it was entertaining) and it going from the same year that had 2 movie spoofs and they didn't make his list
yeah know right every guy has one but what i noticed is alot of guys are complaining in my opinion it seems that they are jealous of a computer animations B====D.
this truely was an epic film, I read the graphic novel about a week before i saw it, and i was amazed at how flawlessly the director adapted such a complex plotline and philisophical story into an oscar worthy movie. Anyone who didnt like it doesnt know a good movie or is a dumbass
I LOVE the Soundtrack to this movie, just like I LOVE this movie, I don't care if my dad didn't like it. I found all of the songs that were in the movie on a website and I have listened to it more than any other soundtrack I have.
As for the male Nudity, the only complaint I had (And minor) was that in a lot of the scenes he wore a modest black thong. Why it couldn't have been there a tad more, isn't that big a deal, so a small nitpick. The sex scene was awesome, the whole theater laughed their asses off when the flame thrower went off ^^ Loved the review, I've subscribed.
People who complained about Dr. Manhattan exposing his penis are people who aren't mature enough to see any nudity. Just because you (as a man) see a penis doesn't make you a fagot; it's what you do to other men's dick is what makes you gay. I don't see why nobody say anything when they see a naked lady.
Dr. Manhattan's exposure not porn, it's art! Go to the museum and complain to the manager that the statue, "Hermes and the Infant Dionysus" has nudity, you idiots!
Why? Both this and Blade Runner were initially criticized for not following what the expectations were during the time of their release. BR has gained a lot more appreciation and is now considered a classic.
I truly believe that Watchmen will do the same thing for the Superhero film genre because when's the last time you ever see any film that does the same ballsy move like this one? No offense but every Superhero movie up to this point feels standard but Watchmen is a breath of fresh air.
I agree with everything you just said and the nitpicking from the critics and purists really got on my nerves becase this should have been analyzed better.
Anyway, I believe that this movie will be appreciated more years later and I see it as the Blade Runner of the Superhero film genre. It's a fantastic film and truly is the most underrated film of 2009
I thought it was a really good film.I thought it was better than some of the movies I've seen but the street fighter movie was just trash.Taken was good, too.
This is the Holy Trinity of US culture right now: (1) Violent video games; (2) comicbooks about superheroes in long underwear; (3) the WWE.
You can only find a film like "The Wrestler" interesting, for instance, if you believe that an ignorant steroid abuser in a carnival sideshow is an interesting role model for anyone or even a Christ figure. The same goes for comicbooks and sadistic video games. If that's all you know, I guess, you learn to appreciate them... if you're American.
it recieved mostly positive reviews with some negative ones. 64% on rottentomatoes. So by your logic it was a good movie. Yeah reviews don't mean shit.
It was pretty funny when I saw this film in theaters because there were little kids sitting near me and my sis, and every time Manhattan came on you instantly heard giggling, not just from the kids but from some 24 year old nerd elsewhere. People....It's a penis. If you're a guy you see a penis at least 5 times a day when you go to the bathroom (and you open your flier). Do you instantly start giggling when you see your own member? Grow up already, sheesh.
yeah some dumbass on youtube said they brought there 11 year old kid to watchmen and they were appauled by the violence and sex and we called him an idiot and he said you try talking an 11 year old out of watching a superhero movie. Fuckin dumbass its a rated R movie

Listen, I like schlongs. I just don't like one shoved up my ass by a piece of shite movie that is the direct result of comic books passing for literature and "art" in post-literate, intellectually lazy, dumbed-down, Aspartame-eating, trans-fat fried, degenrate, violence-loving America.

If you were better educated, you could write answers that actually make sense. As it is, there is no way of knowing whether you mean the film, the review or yours truly is ignorant. And if the latter, whether I am ignorant for despising comicbooks or some other unfathomable reason that you can't quite grasp the words to express.
alright then. I guess you are right. I am the ignorant one in this case. I was addressing the latter part of your original post where you expressed how you despised comic books and didn't think they were art. What i want to know i what do you consider art?
Comics can only express crude self-important adolescent revenge scenarios in kabuki style or become the dumbed-down dyslexic version of pulp novels from 200 years ago. I hope you realize "The Dark Knight" is just a simplified version of "The Count of Monte-Cristo" with torture porn and big things blowing up added for American tastes.
Excuse me but, how is The Dark Knight like the count of The Count of Monte-Cristo?
Second of all, no idea is completely original every story comes from somewhere but that doesnt mean theyre bad, just look at star wars, the plot isnt all that original but its still great
Monte-Cristo: You'd have to read books to understand that one. It's the ultimate revenge-and power fantasy. Star Wars: Bad example. This film inaugurated the reign of the dumbed-down, made-for-children, derivative comicbook-inspired/sci-fi/video game-inspiring action adventure summer blockbuster (and its sequels, copycats and remakes) that has dominated US moviemaking for the past 30 years.
Never saw the movie so I cant give my opinion, but I do agree with you about people nitpicking stupid details in a movie. An example of that is the Fast and Furious franchise, people were talking throughout the movie house saying "How this car cant do this or cant do that", it was very irritating.
I can't stand critics anymore. I read a review from a critic who bashed Watchmen because it wasn't like traditional comic books movies and other critics who said it was pretentious. Jesus christ. Thanks for the rant Fury. It's really nice to see someone out there is still reviewing movies with a competent and unbiased eye.
watchmen was a great film but got to admit Dr Manhattans penis didnt bother me the first few times but after the 50th time they showed it... well it was still a great film not going to say it was bad becuse of that
the reasons why fanboys bitch about the direct translation is the SNIDER HIMSELF LIED AT COMICON THAT IT WAS GOING TO BE A DIRECT TRANSLATION!!!! If not for that most fanboys would be fine
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Also... giving examples of how badly the chun-li movie sucked does not make watchmen any better... and to be honest I saw that movie... it sucked too but it was 10x better than watchmen
Watchmen sucked... it didnt make sense... the critics are right... it SUCKED
All these random flashbacks but no explanations to anything... I'll give an example, Mr Manhattan when he burns that symbol into his forehead... what the heck was that?
Or when he was on Mars flying on some glass ship... what the hell was that thing?
Thirdly, it seemed like being a superhero in this movie was just a regular job that anyone could do... they didnt have any powers yet they were all freakishly strong.
That symbol on his head is the symbol for Hydrogen. The 'glass ship' was just somewhere for him to stay, it had moving parts like a clock, he was a clock makers son so it must have just been an expression of his memories as gave him a sense of home. He moved to Mars to begin anew, as he explained in his narration. The characters were not supposed to have powers because it is a story about regular humans with deep psychological problems. The fact that they wore 'costumes' was evidence of that.
People who dont know anything about the GN are anticipating this to be another Dark Knight then they'll end up being disappointed after viewing. WM isnt like your typical superhero film its in a league of its own
On the subject of nudity in watchmen: Perfectly acceptable portrayal of the character Doctor Manhattan. Even in the book they drew the controversial genitalia in a way that made it less noticeable, like a leonardo davinci sculpture or some other one from his time. I hate how in American film, we can add as much gore and violance as possible and be PG-13 but as soon as there is any hint of a naked person it goes right up to R. Watchmen is a great story.
I just saw this and loved every minute of it, even though I've only read it one time.
One thing I have to say is that I'm glad they didn't puss out and not show Doc Manhattan's penis, although the CONSTANT snickering from the dumbass audience in my theater was really starting to get old.
I saw the film twice and enjoyed it both times. I had no problem with the movie what so ever and also had one of the best soundtracks Ive heard in a movie in a while. I read the book several years ago and can say that i was not disappointed with how the film was adapted at all. A near perfect film.
I just got back from Watchmen and I loved it so much. I didn't read or watch any reviews, just watched it and blown away straight from the start to the finish.
Fury, I agree with you about the hypocritical double standard, about Watchmen being a great movie, and about the criics who are too afraid of a political backlash against them to give the public their honest opinion. Have I agreed with all of your reviews...no, but at least you have the balls to tell us what you honestly feel about the movies you review. I respect you as film fan and as a person. Thanks for listening to me Fury and please keed doing what you're doing.
you're probably right to wonder how lots of these movie critics get work, and what leads them to put out these attention-grabbing reviews solely for that reason. it's been my understanding that, in areas such as film and food, those that can't do, gripe. those who cannot make movies or run restaurants become critics of same. not all, but some- i don't want to generalize too much.
again, great review, fury. you're a breath of fresh air in the review realm.
It's smart film and Alan Moore is a smart guy for making the comic. He understands the world we live in and show to us in his own way. This film is more about the world we live in then is about superheros. Just look at his other work V For Vendetta. People think if it's about superheros it's got to be like Superman or Batman & Robin but they don't have to be like just look at The Dark Knight with story has good as any Scorsese gangstar movie comicbook movies are changing for the better
I personally am a huge fan of the graphic novel, but I feel that the movie (though it has amazing special effects) was lacking a lot of character development. I was not offended by Dr. Manhattan's nudity, mainly because it shows how detached he is from humanity. He doesn't need food, water, or air to live. He doesn't age, doesn't feel pain, and can change matter just by looking at it. He is supposed to be the "perfect" human, and therefore nudity is not seen as disgraceful in his perception.
i know im so sick of people saying that the blue penis is gross and shit like that thats all you hear in the halls of my high all of these hollister and abercrombie dip shits dont know what a good movie is when its flat out in front of them. i guess they would rather see meet the spartans
im a little tired of female nudity in movies, im a guy and i honestly thinks we need more male nudity in movies, not all the time or in every movie but once in a while:) i need to see this movie, too bad sweden get all movies 3 months later then america-.-
dude, if you want more male nudity, youre gonna get all the blue cock you want when Watchmen hits your town. didnt bother me, but couldve done without it. at least he put his thong on when he was 20 stories tall!!!!!! LMFAO
i thought the slow motion was good, seeing male genitalia didnt bother me, the music was awesome. hendrix and bob dylan rule. i thought the sex scene was pretty hot. stop being whiny little bitches people. i havnt read the comic and i liked it
speed racer was pretty good. it was wayy better than i thought itd be but by no means was it best film in any way, not of the year month or all time time. seems to me that theres alot of troll critics out there trying to get a name. lmao beware the penis.
this movie was fucking awesome and ive read the comic.. idiots who nitpick things in the film should just go watch the motion comics and leave the film alone because the film was great. better than the dark knight overrated crap.
I understood the film without having read the graphic novel. I think people are stupid to look at this film like a super hero movie because its so much more than that. Now I am reading the graphic novel to see how it compares but I think fanboys who are shitting their pants because it wasn't an exact replica of the novel are just as bad as the critics who are shitting their pants because they didn't get it.
Actually, Fury..while 99 Red Baloons was the most out of place song..it actually has quite enough meaning to fit with Watchmen. It is about 99 baloons(obviously) floating up in the sky and being confused for a foreign aircraft and causing trouble between countries as it flies over them adn they blame eachother
You rock Fury of the Film Fan! Im a watchmen fanatic and have read the book 3 times and you know what? I loved the move and wouldnt change a thing about it
I loved Watchmen because it was something new and portrayed superheroes as normal people, I meen what is Superman going to do when he can't be Superman anymore, and that was fantastic!
Disthron 1 year ago
@Disthron THE WHOLE POINT IS THE EXISTENCE OF THE HEROES IS WHAT MADE THE SITUATION GO SO WRONG IN THE FIRST PLACE. Seriously, it's like talking to someone who's seen the trailer, or came in half way through the movie. Look, I don't mean to be patronizing or anything but maybe simpler fare is more up your alley? Spider-man is a good superhero movie if Watchmen was a bit too dark and weird for you. And maybe you weren't SUPPOSED to like the characters? Have you considered that?
PompamooseMagique 1 year ago
@PompamooseMagique Maybe there was something in the book but in the movie it seemed like the world was going to hell just fine all by itself. They seemed to have very little overall effect. Also, the film was dark but it wasn't weird, I don't know where you get that from.
And yes, I know people are supposed to dislike the chars but knowing that dosen't somehow reverse the polarity and make me like that chars again.
Disthron 1 year ago
@Disthron OK, I'm bored of trying to explain this now. But in a last ditch effort: Have you seen say... A Clockwork Orange? The main character, Alex DeLarge, is a serial murderer and rapist. This character is a deeply unlikeable sociopath, but it's not about him, or agreeing with him, or liking him, it's about the story, how it unfolds, and his role in it. This logic applies to Watchmen. Fine, if you didn't find it engaging or w/e, or the plot didn't make sense to you, but c'mon.
PompamooseMagique 1 year ago
@PompamooseMagique I never said the plot didn't make sense, or that is was strainge for that matter, it's just that it relies on all the charecters involved being stupid, or in some instances laizy or evil or all 3 I guess.
I started watching clockwork orange but I didn't get very fare. I can't remember why I stopped watching but I do remember it felt like it'd gone on for ages but it was only about 20min or so in. I think they'd bumbed around it a weard club and then beat up someone.
Disthron 1 year ago
@Disthron And as for "reversing the polarity" that's not the point! It's about why these characters became like this, why they aren't heroes, and the implications of what they choose to do when they become "superheroes" the characters were perceived to be seven different ways of viewing the world, and seven different codes of ethics for the audience to choose who they sympathized with. If you didn't sympathize with any of them then good, because that is a valid interpretation of them as people.
PompamooseMagique 1 year ago
@PompamooseMagique *shrugs* I guess that's kind of interesting but in my view most of that stuff dosen't matter. They screwed up, BIG TIME, mosely becouse they were dooshbags and a lot of, mostly inocent, people got killed.
There was 1 quote from the wrighter "if the world was going to end in 4min, what wouldn't you do". This was very interesting. However this is short circuited somewhat becouse it's the main charecters that stood around and did nothing while the situation detireorated.
Disthron 1 year ago
@Disthron OK, agree to disagree. Friendly advice though: spellcheck. Google Chrome has a pretty good spellcheck if you're using firefox or w/e.
PompamooseMagique 1 year ago
@PompamooseMagique fair enough, I never said it was a bad film, just that I don't like it. Also, I usually do use spellcheck I'm just using IE becouse it takes up less ram while I'm rendering.
Have a good one. ^_^

TheNameOfMyAccount 1 year ago
@TheNameOfMyAccount
A very good director was offered watchmen, but wanted to set it in modern day iraq. Snyder was a huge fan of the book, I think he did a pretty good job.
HollowContact 1 year ago
I think the reason I didn't love the film is because the source material was so complete, I mean it was all there, words and imagery, and al fitted together so well. So the film felt just a little redundant, and I couldn't help but compare it, a lot of my favourite bits from the book didn't make it into the film and that was a shame. But the film certainly wasn't bad, and had some good moments- although the fight scenes seemed to miss the point slightly.
TheReluctantKing 1 year ago
My main gripe comes from something my girlfriend pointed out, which is just how rubbish the sex looked! All the nods to the superhero costume being fetishistic and then the actual sex looked really boring!
TheReluctantKing 1 year ago
This is amazing, I agree with you totally! Espeically the bit about Dr. Manhattan's penis I couldn't believe HOW MANY PEOPLE complained about that it was so childish and pathetic! Anyway very interesting to listen to.
Emmeration 1 year ago
I can't believe -no one- is looking into the fetishization of the violence in the film. I understand adapting and changing things - but the original work had a stark, sobering portrayal of violence. Pretty much the whole point of the work was to showcase people without superpowers going through these trials and tribulations. The bone-snapping, and Dr. Manhattan turning a guy into a big pile of goo are so completely against what the book was about. I just don't get how people don't talk about it.
ProjectCobalt 1 year ago
I never knew there was controversy about this movie! I didn't love the whole thing, but I certainly did not dislike it, and loved specific parts (the opening sequence was amazing). I saw the movie alone and under-aged but I knew what I was getting. It's not as if the movie didn't warn you-it's bloody rated R. I didn't even really notice certain parts of Manhattan's nudity because the focus was supposed to be his character, not his bloody genitals.
elppa284 1 year ago
@elppa284 I know right i loved the beginning sequence and I was self aware about the R rating, everyone I knew did, because they wanted to see it too lol but yeah its all about the character not the lets just say "things" on the character

Then I would have liked it.

videogamenostalgia 2 years ago
For a film that posed so many intelligent questions; that hard-earned 18 rating through constant sex and violence thrown in the faces of the viewers was completely gratuitous, exploitative and unecessary. That was a shame that it had to stoop so low, and I think that's why some critics didn't like it. I go to see that shit from grindhouse and hostel; bad films. I expected to be intrigued by this film, and ended up only remembering stupid over-the-top violence, sex and the bad acting (from some).

I wasn't that overwhelmed, mostly because it seemed Snyder himself hasn't understand the point of the story, but to give credit to where credit is due, this doesn't prevent the thinking audience from understanding it.

DazManianDevil101 2 years ago

If you were better educated, you could write answers that actually make sense. As it is, there is no way of knowing whether you mean the film, the review or yours truly is ignorant. And if the latter, whether I am ignorant for despising comicbooks or some other unfathomable reason that you can't quite grasp the words to express.
bracine1 2 years ago
alright then. I guess you are right. I am the ignorant one in this case. I was addressing the latter part of your original post where you expressed how you despised comic books and didn't think they were art. What i want to know i what do you consider art?
thenewguy461 2 years ago 2
The sad thing is comicbooks are art but they certainly aren't literature. They have taken the place of literature in the new illiterate America.
bracine1 2 years ago
Comics can only express crude self-important adolescent revenge scenarios in kabuki style or become the dumbed-down dyslexic version of pulp novels from 200 years ago. I hope you realize "The Dark Knight" is just a simplified version of "The Count of Monte-Cristo" with torture porn and big things blowing up added for American tastes.
bracine1 2 years ago
Excuse me but, how is The Dark Knight like the count of The Count of Monte-Cristo?
Second of all, no idea is completely original every story comes from somewhere but that doesnt mean theyre bad, just look at star wars, the plot isnt all that original but its still great
sumanoskae 2 years ago 2
Monte-Cristo: You'd have to read books to understand that one. It's the ultimate revenge-and power fantasy. Star Wars: Bad example. This film inaugurated the reign of the dumbed-down, made-for-children, derivative comicbook-inspired/sci-fi/video game-inspiring action adventure summer blockbuster (and its sequels, copycats and remakes) that has dominated US moviemaking for the past 30 years.

BizzMarki 2 years ago
That symbol on his head is the symbol for Hydrogen. The 'glass ship' was just somewhere for him to stay, it had moving parts like a clock, he was a clock makers son so it must have just been an expression of his memories as gave him a sense of home. He moved to Mars to begin anew, as he explained in his narration. The characters were not supposed to have powers because it is a story about regular humans with deep psychological problems. The fact that they wore 'costumes' was evidence of that.

Watchmen is a great story.

you're probably right to wonder how lots of these movie critics get work, and what leads them to put out these attention-grabbing reviews solely for that reason. it's been my understanding that, in areas such as film and food, those that can't do, gripe. those who cannot make movies or run restaurants become critics of same. not all, but some- i don't want to generalize too much.

Not completely bothered by the blue wang, it's more the reaction to it by the more immature members of the audience.

i thought the slow motion was good, seeing male genitalia didnt bother me, the music was awesome. hendrix and bob dylan rule. i thought the sex scene was pretty hot. stop being whiny little bitches people. i havnt read the comic and i liked it

speed racer was pretty good. it was wayy better than i thought itd be but by no means was it best film in any way, not of the year month or all time time. seems to me that theres alot of troll critics out there trying to get a name. lmao beware the penis.

this movie was fucking awesome and ive read the comic.. idiots who nitpick things in the film should just go watch the motion comics and leave the film alone because the film was great. better than the dark knight overrated crap.

Dr, M's (3x's) flapping in the wind after the "sex" scene with Ms. Jupiter. (fine)
But why so many times after???
Part of his nature my fanny!!!
Then why was he covering up while taking pics and attacking the Viet Cong?
Then there should have been a 50 ft schlong waving around...right?!?
I'll go back and see it in the theaters when it's pg-13 with 80% less wang!
C'mon I don't even see my own Johnson that many time in 3 hours!!!

I enjoyed the film, went to see it today, very enjoyable, actually didn't even feel like it was 2:40 long. I felt I really got my moneys worth.

In the "Crying Game" I understood!!!
In "Boogie Nights"...well timed!!!
But there was just too much blue willy in "Watchmen"!!!
I think the director just wanted to beat "Forgetting Sarah Marshal's" record.
Or just make up for the no wang clause from "300". Although it does fit the movies title. Hmmmm?!?!

I know what the song is about =) thanks for explaining it though. I only felt the tune was slightly off, I'm not a fan of the actual song.
