  • this shit is soooo fuckin true....im gettin tired of motherfucka's makin it seem like if ur small then u gotta be white....WHAT THE FUCK I LOOK LIKE.....& when you try to speak up motherfucka's wanna tell u to shut up....So FUCK U.....

  • Dope

  • Lol shout out to the white folk getting offended because she's speaking the truth! THIS NEEDS MORE VIEWS.

  • Hey you all check me out I have a piece I did called poetism

  • what? just got mind fucked lol

  • Dayum!

  • coldest thing i ever heard , i just wrote a poem about a black statistic the other day . i feel her .

  • OO! That lightening rode my spine!

  • With the "big as shit" comment, she was referring to basically how if it is not proper and white it's not right. Know your history Slaves couldn't speak English well. Thus the way they spoke was completely different from their masters. It's about adaptation and access to resources. With these crappy schools many minorities are forced into, no wonder some minorities do not possess the same language skills, but it is also a matter of culture. What black people find acceptable, some whites do not.

  • People need to realize that for a lot of "educated" Black students, this is a daily struggle. Too smart for our own and too Black for white people. I wish people would get off this kumbaya ish and wake up and realize what is going on in America. Ideally, we'd like everyone to be equal and judged by their character, but due to slavery and institutionalized racism, white privilege supersedes this task. As a college Black student, all I can do is stand against white privilege and uplift my people.

  • I dont even know what to say!. . . That was amazing !

  • iLove you miss

I don't even know you, yet somehow you just told my life story. Kids always call me white or they say I'm sidudee or boshe or stuck up because I know how to articulate and enunciate.

And the white kids have the audacity to come up to me and "congratulate me for being better than my peers"

I'm like you...the fuck iLook like tryna be white or be better better than black. I mean really the fuck iLook like

  • She did that! I love it

  • This is an amazing young woman who speaks nothing but the truth and I hope continues to do so.

  • she is fucking amazing

  • A yo word she straigth crush "fuck I look like"

  • I love her ......

  • I fuckin love her!!!! cant say it any better

  • I'm in AP and i'm black. OMG I totally agree and I thank god that I go to school in Missouri City, Texas. Houston is one of the most diverse cities in the nation and growing.

  • well im about to go study for class

  • (continued) Guess what? White people don't have to say stuff like this because you don't deal with stuff like this. Fucking morons.

  • You'd have to be completely stupid to not understand this piece. Judging by the fact that there are so many people who think it's an attack on white people, a lot of people don't get it. It can all be easily figured out if you pay attention to the part about Twain vs Angelou. Some of you people are so caught up in white supremacy that when something like that is pointed out the best you can say is "get over it" and whine about how if white people said something like this it'd be a problem. Gues

  • This Poem was not meant to portray black vs white but ignorance vs intelligence if you pay attention she imitates a typical or should I say a stereotype of a african American girl which means that it was not meant to be directed solely to caucasians. It was a good poem.

  • All my classes are ap and I only see my friends at lunch... They tease me for my ap classes... I showed them this poem and my friend looked at me and said "I don't get it"....-__- ap rocks....

  • Dude I'm the only black male in Pre ap geometry

  • fuck the haters . this is exactly how i felt when i took ap classes. only black girl in the room .

  • I was the 79500 Viewer And you still looking right...C...

  • I can't this is ok, but if a white person said a poem or w.e about black people it would be considered racist.......

  • Best day of 2nd grade

  • I feel like she's perpetuaing the whole "black vs. white" or "us vs. them" thing...kind of contradicting to her poem. You can't just generalize a whole white population, i mean if it were the other way around "black this black that", the person would seriously get beat up or something. It would have been more appropriate if she generalized certain "types" of people who work against her race rather than bringing in the race card and reinforcing this whole "white people are our enemies" thing

  • @OMGitsmee92 Please understand, white persons are not the object of attack, white supremacy is the object. It's undeniable however, that most white persons, when pressed, have allegiance to white supremacy, and occasionally, some nonwhite persons do too.

  • Black ppl need to stop complaining... If a white person made a video like this, black people, they would flip the fuck out...Man the jews don't even complain as much as black people and tey had it way worse.

  • @HoratiuGuitar Please understand, nonwhite people, people who are called black people, remain victims of white supremacy and have yet to accurately assess and articulate their plight. In a world dominated by white supremacy, white persons and nonwhite persons are equal only in humanity. In all other areas of people activity they are unequal, including how they articulate their experiences.

  • YESSSSS girl speak the truth!!! and never hold your peace. This is so real, unscripted, raw facts in today society!

  • I love

  • I love this and its so true ...loving this always lol

  • I love this message so much! But the N word is so unnecessary and I find it pretty contradicting. I really wish there was a way to just erase the word from vocabulary. No matter who says it, black or white, it's still a disgusting word with far too much negativity for the future that we've been working so hard to get to.

  • Omg! I got called a white girl in high school because of my smarts also. this made me smile :)

  • Wow......... She is inferior, This made me just oh my gosh!

  • Speak on it?!?

  • What a sharp young woman, poet you are. Thank you for your piece. Thank you for sharing the real with other young people and even, older ones like me. You just keep doing what you are doing. You are the type of young person, I look forward to passing the torch of life too.

You Go Gurl. Good for you! Blessings, Lisa at Images Theatre Company

  • Yes! She Betta Do This. Kai Is The Shit For Real

  • YES.

  • Why the fuck people arguing about stereotypes? Just live your own fuckin life and do whatever the fuck you want to do. Really what's the matter? Let people say whatever they want and do your own things. Why complicate everything really.

  • @howboutbeni r you ask what's the matter as if there are not problems in the world? really? that's what artist do? they speak on it! if you are really living and doing it right it is a big complicated world! wake up!

  • If I have daughters I need them ALL to be like this

  • Ms Davis, you are an inspiration to young and old. Thank you, for not conforming.

  • She is spectacular. In all her videos she speaks the truth. We need more inspirational and real young people in society today.

  • SOOO TRUEE!!!

  • My new Motto

  • people who have self hate disliked this. sad, sad, sad people

  • Imagine if a white person done a speech saying black man this, black man that, they'd be thrown in jail, but this smug bitch can get away with it happily

  • @JordanDinstrumentals First off you obviously never have experienced what we experience day by day so this doesn't relate to you. Secondly there was no need to swear, I never swore at you. When people actually expect "us" to be dumb and uneducated that is why she is angry. When children who attend schools in poor neighborhoods with no books and leaking roofs, and are expected to compete with children who are privilege; that's why she is angry.

  • @FreeBree6 i feel for her struggle of what shes been through, its not right and the system of this rock that we live on is disgusting and i hate it and i also hate how the rich at the top work, never the less it gives her no right to racial profile when there's millions of poor whites all around the globe experiencing bad poverty as well. you thinks shes smart i think shes ignorant.

  • @JordanDinstrumentals I agree with the poverty part and unfortunately in the twisted world that we live in everyone is put up against one another. Rich vs Poor and then Poor vs Poor. There was a survey done a while back when they put a black applicant and a white applicant to apply for the same job. Now while the black applicant had more qualifications, his lighter counterpart was still hired. In some situiations in this life, people still rather have someone who is lighter.

  • @FreeBree6 listen look i like where your coming from and the opinions and views you've expressed i agree with whole-heartedly but if i see any racial profiling of any sort towards any type of human being im swearing back and criticizing people for supporting it, so that's all this is and i cant stop because it ant right.

  • @JordanDinstrumentals We are all put up against one another, some worse than others. How she comes across in this video comes from her negative experiences. It may hurt and come off as racist but everyone's overall experience is different.

  • @JordanDinstrumentals Futhermore when people think that "we" are all no good, in gangs, in jail, while a chosen few can buy everyone off with a pen and a check book. That is why she is angry.

  • like i speak slave and you speak slave master !!!!!

  • Y'all stupid 4 arguing it was an awesome poem u go girl

  • @KeeCoop1209 it has everything to do with the fact that we as black women are stereo typed and that if you listen to country music instead of hip hop your not black enough or if you don't wear Jordan's and Rocawear your not dressed right she said that a 4.0 does mean your four shades lighter means breaking stereotypical roles I was giving examples but my main point was that we as black women break all molds and just be yourself

  • @schoolgirlmellie *claps* Thanks! That is so true!

  • lml i watch this video like 10 times a day :)

  • #goosebumps

  • WOW!!! I cant stop watchin, love this poem, Damn!!!!?

  • Education is not a color and just because my kids don't watch B E T i'm not keeping it real? real is the fact that we read books together not watch porn inspired videos degrading women, I don't fashion my clothing after RAP labels sponsored by ignorant n*ggas making them rich, my girl's role models won't be rich crackheads and whores with multi-selling albums

  • @schoolgirlmellie she's trying to show how we hold ourselves back due to what was embedded in us throughout history. black people stay intellectually oppressed because in their minds, subconsciously, intellect or the want to get a higher education is a "white trait". so speaking properly takes away from your "blackness". while on the other hand speaking improperly means you can't be smart. it is all generalizations. just my opinion.

  • She should join the Black Panthers

  • I love this education is not a color and just because my kids don't watch B E T i'm not keeping it real real is the fact that we read books together not watch porn inspired videos degrading women

  • 28 ppl are quaking in their boots

  • The Light

  • what she says is true about "black people passing the torch" and thus perpetuating self-hate , but i cant help feeling that there is a bit of animosity geared towards white people here

  • Lol i wonder if there were white people in the crowd?! She's amazing!

  • I support this poem nd her strong belief. GET IT!!

  • Amen !

  • Incredible work!

  • IM IN LOVE WITH HER JASMINE MANS AND ALYSIA HARRIS

  • damn she is speaking the truth too. I'm black and i have to admit that my people got shit fucked up. we got shit fucked up because we are LOST! we got shit twisted because we dont know what being black is. we listen to the stereotypes about black people, and are stupid enough to use these stereotypes as a basis for how us blacks should act, and arrogant enough to tell our own kind that you aint black because your not acting this way or that. not knowing we are following a racist mentality lead.

  • @BuddyAcesPRESENTS WOW you just spoke the truth

  • Thank you to everyone who continue to support Kai. To those that don't get it, that's too bad. But just as you're entitled to your opinion, Kai is entitled to her's. For those that enjoy this performance, I encourage you to visit the Philly Youth Poetry Movement youtube page PYPM215 to check out more from Kai Davis and many of our very talented youth poets here in Philadelphia.

  • I loved it, if you don't like don't watch it. End of discussion!!!

  • She beautiful and smart and poetic

  • this is deep

  • Brilliant verbal flow and word sound power. Her (self) righteous anger is understandable, the cursing is not a problem, but she contradicts herself: For example: people put her down because she doesn't use 'correct English, then later she defends her knowledge of and use of 'big words' . She is correct that Maya Angelou is a great writer, but of course so is Mark Twain. The world is full of (sometimes unfair) contradictions. Ms. Davis will be fantastic when she gets a little older. Love it.

  • MLK does not approve. He would do it without the cursing. Go home.

  • Talkin about existentialism like what?? 1:24 i couldnt makeout what she was saying. btw i loved this!

  • @iloveyoubby21 "like a muthafuckin boss"

  • She is boss i want to send this to everybody in my life who keeps telling me to drop out of school

  • She's a fucking BOSS

  • Does this girl have a twitter ? facebook? or something i want to tell her how awesome she is

  • She send a good message , but for real how old is she? she used a lot of profanity

  • @ericacoke She's 18. Yes, she uses profanity, but we don't censor our slams. Both of her parents were present, who are both educators.

  • go kai just saw this on wshh this the shitttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt!

  • I cant stop watching this video!!!! "INSPIRATIONAL"

  • I am literally obsessed with this...

  • One of the realest videos I've seen on Youtube. I LOVE IT!

  • One of the realest videos I've seen on Youtube. I LOVE IT!

  • She looks like an angry black woman.

  • @EskiLdn You sound like a scared cracker

  • @sambam2694 im not white.

  • @EskiLdn Alright then self hating coon.

  • @sambam2694 I'm not the one hating.

  • @EskiLdn Clearly I said "self hating". Comprehend???

  • @sambam2694 Yes i can comprehend but theres no hating going on at this end. You must be another one thats filled with hate so can only see my messages as some form of hating.

    More power to you man.

  • @EskiLdn why does she have to be angry? because she is expressing herself?

  • Comment removed

  • *finger snaps*

  • Whys she mad tho?, so acouple of white people looked down their nose at her, now shes mad and blaming the whole race.

  • @EskiLdn Just like a couple of Black people like fried, and now all Black people love fried chicken. Stereotypes are a bitch when it's not a minority getting stereotyped, Huh?.... STFU

  • Saw this for the first time today and went nuts! I love her. I'd like to write as great as her.

  • Awesome!!!!!!!!!!!

  • She is phenomenal! Look past the profanity her points are valid on both races. The past oppression on our race caused current oppression within our race.

Looked at a couple of other videos and she is extremely diverse and passionate about whatever she is speaking on. I see her doing great things in the future.

  • 25 ppl are scare of the truth

  • thats the definition of slang poetry wow

  • Ayeeee ! She Went Off ! ! !

  • I'm glad i heard this...i can so relate to this...i had this issue while in high school....hopefully one day our people learn

  • whoa! i love her. hands down

  • thank you @doveblush for enlightening people and @rosebudloves you really need to reconsider your perspective and educate yourself about institutional racism and realize that by "blaming the victim" and remaining ignorant about the reality of post-modern racism.. you will continue to be the problem

  • @chichiers By blaming the world individuals give an entire race conformation that it is okay to level with what others have agreed you were already destined to be. I am not blaming the victim entirely I am saying, simply put, that a action can only have so much power and it is the reaction that dictates that power.

  • if you missed the point because you were struck by the swearing, you are a simple minded piece of shit.

    Chew on that.

  • 21 people are racist...this is great!

  • Comment removed

  • give me a poet without the cursing....any day over this...she smart and powerful that i cant deny. but what good is being smart if half the words coming out her mouth are curses?

  • @SugarRushCakez I think it intensifies it. I agree that she might have gone overboard, but the language adds something that, although I can't accurately describe, is very influential to the tone and intent of the poem

  • @SugarRushCakez Agreed. She is talking about perpetuating a stereo type or cycle when the words coming out of her mouth are doing just that. A black men can't seem to get his point across without getting hype, having to put someone else down to give them height. This poem might actually be stronger and more valet without the foul language. Then maybe it could touch those who really need to hear,The young black men and women in the classroom. But then again they might be ditching that day lol.

  • @rosebudloves this comment is all kinds of disgusting. you've missed the point, you're suggesting this girl is perpetuating a stereotype because -- what? she's swearing? your point isn't "valet," it's coloured by privileged expectations of how oppressed people should act. who is she putting down here? black people aren't allowed to be angry? examine your discomfort. you're part of the problem.

  • @doveblush and then again we are all entitled to our own opinion, so that's good :) I am not apart of any problem, you might want to examine your inability to be uncomfortable. She is putting down a whole race when in reality she should be specific and honest and admit that it is not a race but the black child that refuses to do what he or she needs to do to get ahead. At some point you have to take responsibility for the outcome of your life and stop blaming others.

  • @rosebudloves you're seriously ignorant if you think the problem is -- and this quote seriously disgusts and disturbs me -- "the black child that refuses to do what he or she needs to do to get ahead." if you think racialized systems are a thing of the past, it's only because the system works best when it's invisible to those who benefit from it.

  • @doveblush There you go calling names again -______- sheesh some never learn. We are all suppressed in one way or another, the system sure has done its part on me so please stop. Their are two children in the same EXACT situation and raised the same EXACT way. One succeeds and the other does not. One succeeded because he was lucky enough to (blah Blah blah) while the other failed because of the system. hmmm...It is not racism does not exist it is that racism is not the problem.

  • where can i get the lyrics to this

  • Damn.. I can't even right now.. This young lady is beyond talented and speaks the truth

  • The reason why people are praising tumblr: it got us here. Please THINK ;)

  • GANGSTA

  • *sniffles* she just released every thing i've ben thinkin

  • I think I'm in love.

  • Dude just powerfull like seriously thts some powerful poetry

  • Why are we suddenly loving and praising Tumblr? It wasn't Tumblr that educated people, it's Kai Davis. Praise her instead.

  • @MeIissssa ...because it allowed people to hear what she's saying, just like without YouTube you may not have seen it. Tumblr,a social network, OBVIOUSLY is not getting credit for a poem.jeez

  • @MeIissssa No one is praising Tumblr, but if it wasn't for TUmblr many people wouldn't have known about this young lady

  • @MeIissssa Were just saying thank god that tumblr put this video on there because if it wasnt for tumblr we would have never discovered her or this video!!#justsaying

  • how does this not have at least over a million views though?
