The fake results in Iowa were to pacify Ron Paul supporters by keeping him near the top - but the other 2 useless feeders who "came in" ahead of him were probably faked. Secondly If Ron Paul wasn't a republican he wouldn't be able to participate in the debates and get his message out. He would also not be able to participate in these preliminary state votes (caucuses and primaries) that gives him TV time. If he doesn't get the republican nomination he can still run as an independent come election time but with little chance.
