Do you realize that many Nursing Homes are "Do Not Attempt Resusitation" (DNAR) facilities? At the time of admission a new resident "must" sign a waiver agreeing to give up their rights to an Advance Directive for CPR & Defibrillation. In order to gain admission they "must" sign the DNAR waiver. In the event of Cardiac Arrest the staff will call "911" and allow the resident to die while waiting for the EMTs to arrive. This is legal protocol in the U.S.A. In my opinion, legalized euthanasia.

Morphine was given in such low doses it does not affect you in such a way as a normal dose would. It is normal to inject morphine into someone who is dying not so much for the patient but rather for the family. If you've ever been around someone in a similar condition it helps comfort the family and eases the breathing.
