I had this game on PS3, I didn't finish it but I got quite far in it and, well... it was OK. Enjoyable mediocrity is how I'd describe it. I certainly wouldn't consider it an underrated gem.
@ghosthunt4123 Yes, Mediocre Warfare 2 was definitely not better than just about every other FPS this gen. Would you people quit buying bland crap? I'd call CoD a plain vanilla shooter, but that's not fair to plain vanilla.
Do you really believe this is an "Underrated Gem"? Honestly I thought this was a good game but not a great one... The concept for the game was great, but like many other video game concepts sometimes they fall short. (i.e. Damnation)
@8MrDonut8 I really enjoyed my time with this game. I find it a lot more enjoyable than the single player mode in any CoD game I have played recently.
@MikeReiner I hate the Single player modes in CoD now. The first few CoD games had decent Single players, but since the series hasn't changed much since the beginning (still a linear fetch-quest), I can't stand to play CoD's Single player. It's the same thing repackaged over and over again.
@teh2Dgamer I gave up on Black Ops campaign. The story was incredibly stupid, even by first person shooter standards, and the gameplay was just too familiar..
The only new game I can think of that I'm looking forward to is Deus Ex Human Revolution... I'm cautiously optimistic about that game.. I hope it's good.
@MikeReiner I hope they don't screw the new DX up, but I'm not holding my breath. I predict gameplay that has very little resemblance to DX in any way shape or form with watered-down gameplay elements (like a lot more watered down then IW was), and great review scores from the mainstream while fans of the series will say it's officially dead.
@MikeReiner I hope it's good to, but it'll probably be good in a non-Deus Ex way. Invisible War watered down enough of the original's elements to get more mainstream appeal, but my fear is that the new one will make DX fans forget about IW (which I really enjoyed too don't get me wrong, and taken by itself it's still a great game IMO).
Dude I have TIMSHIFT on PS3 it looks great on graphic, but the story is the same as on PC and 360. I like this game on the fact that you can use time powers, and the epic weapons to finish your foes.
I liked the time mechanics of Timeshift but I also found that the game was too repetitive and uninspired for my liking. The story, characters and setting were not all that interesting and it simply didn't compare to most of the other shooters released at the same time. 2007 led a shooter overload. Had Saber Interactive stuck to their original designs and released Timeshift in 2006 I probably wouldn't of been such a sceptic of it. As polished as it is, Timeshift ain't any better than average.
Not nearly enough was done with the retro futuristic setting, the game leaving you running through copy pasted corridors and storage rooms in prisons and arms factories.
The guns were fun to use and had some decent variety, but they really didn't look that impressive, just your standard sci-fi fare.
The time manipulaction mechanics were fun though, although the novelty wore off before the end of the game. Still, it's a game worth a play.
Sometimes I enjoy playing these overlooked games more than the ones which have scored higher reviews and whatnot. Usually because the big budget games are usually only centered on graphics and sound design. But because these type games don't always have the huge budget studios and all that, the developers tend to focus on the actual gameplay and the story (even if it's a bit cheesy).
@StudioGuyMN The thing about games like this is you come into them with lttle expectations whereas the big hyped games, are hyped as the cure to cnacer, and when they aren't it leaves you feeling a little disappointed. Plus, I think a lot of the over-hyped games this gen aren't nearly as good as they are made out to be. Most of them I'd give an 8 tops if I was reviewing.
@Treblaine As time goes on, I'll probably post more. PS2 will still be my biggest focus, but I try to branch out to other systems as much as possible..
Timeshift looks fun. It reminds me of a game i recently played called Singularity. What do you think of Singularity? Are you gonna buy it if you find a cheap copy?
Yeah, this is a great game. The first few levels are fantastic with some great set pieces, but then the developers wanted to shove some variety into the levels (let's be like Halo) resulting in a definate loss of fun factor because of the generic enviroments. Add poor vehicle sections and a fucking stupid on-rails section and there's more lull to what could have been better. But even with some glaring flaws here and there, this a brilliant and very playable shooter.
I would disagree that this is an underrated gem. For me, I played through once. From most of the ratings I've seen it gets about 6.5-7.5 (sometimes 8) which is fair to the gameplay in my opinion. Though, you are certianly entitled to your opinion which is why I'll ask: What makes you feel that this is an "Underrated Gem?"

I loved this game, the graphics were awesom and multiplayer was also really fun they should have released it the same time as cod4

@MikeReiner That's kinda how I feel about Halo 3 and MW myself.

@teh2Dgamer Yeah, I never liked Halo 3 and was always unimpressed with the single player campaigns in the Call of Duty series.

@teh2Dgamer Certainly not baseless assumptions. Like I said, cautiously optimistic.
Between Thief 4 and the new DX, Eidos has a lot to live up to.. probably impossible.
