  • This song used to scary me when I was a kid. I do have to say that Metroid (NES Version) had some pretty creepy songs.

  • @LD75network I wholeheartedly agree the beginning really scared me when I was a kid almost made me not want to play, then I did later in life and realized how hard and masterful this game was...this game was very ahead of its time don't you think?

  • @strawfilm Yeah, I agree. I kinda like the first Metroid game better.

  • I just made a top 10 best songs of all time ! this ranked nr 9 ! ^^

  • I NOTICED THAT NOBODY HAS MADE A GOOD COVER FOR THIS SONG! WHY?? SO I TRIED TO DO THE JOB MYSELF!! PLEASE CHECK IT OUT ON MY CHANNEL! IF YOU LIKE IT PLEASE THUMBS UP!! SO OTHERS CAN HEAR IT!!!

    watch?v=5MDC1JsfDAo&context=C3578cf2ADOEgsToPDskJKOWsU--1CfJrFCGejbDy1

  • @NlessMusic here: /watch?v=JwAsSSGgExw&feature=channel_video_title yours is decent, but i like orchestral better.

  • kraid: You dare bring a Power Suit to my Lair? You must die

  • I don't give a fuck about how modern video games are, for the most part, monotonous and uninspired. I came here because I love this tune and how atmospheric it is, not to bitch about CoD, which is pretty much the video game equivalent of bitching about Justin Bieber.

  • When I got to this area I literally put down my controller to listen to this a few times before continuing through the dungeon. It truly made me appreciate the area.

  • The old(er) games are waaaayyy better than the new ones out these days..Sometimes i think game companies are going backwards instead of forwards. Sad really

  • @darkkiller10k But, but, if they're going backwards wouldn't they be getting closer to older games?

  • @IsItTheBagel Well it depends on which way they go backwards, because arguably the old games like this one had a lot of original ideas and class because the imagination was needed to fill in the blanks. If these companies are degenerating then that could be the bad backwards instead of the originality backwards. This is just my opinion not saying others are wrong but it is what I think

  • so epic

  • watch in 240p it sounds super 8-bit

  • This would make the most badass Dubstep song ever.

  • @ThaneCrosoft

The most awesome Dubstep song ever would be the sound of silence. And I'm not talking about Simon and Garfunkle. I'm talking about actual silence.

  • u knw wats great? playin this in ur room n no one bothers u!!!!!! with a mini fridge

  • kill a noob in an online game but the noob is more then likely has beaten this game, whos the real noob?

  • i bet that kids from this era somehow manage to obtain these fine games from the 80s and play them theyll start whining and complaining about "OMFG wheres my killstreaks?!" or "wheres the ghost in this map? i NEED it!!" or some shit like that :/

  • @MrMousie10 Nice generalization :) *Cough*15andworkingmywaythroughthisentireseriesfromthebeginning *Cough* Some of us appreciate the fine craftsmenship that modern games wouldn't exist if it wasn't for. :)

  • Comment removed

  • @MrMousie10 Nope. I'm probably the only 14 year old that own a SNES and a Nintendo 64. I also have the Starfox 64, OoT, MM, and Super Metroid game cartridges, and I hate games like CoD. I don't understand how a series of like 8 games that are nearly identical to each other are so popular. I play both Wii and PS3 and I enjoy some modern games (UNCHARTED WOOP WOOP) but the classics are where it's at. :)

  • @DimensionFive

Add FF6 and Chrono Trigger to your collection and you'll have RPG's better than todays.

  • Comment removed

  • @DimensionFive Your not the only one. Too bad I don't have a PS3 so I can't play Uncharted or Infamous :(.

  • @MrMousie10 I'm glad I'm part of the old school 90's generation, but there are still a decent amount from this new one that can see the greatness of these games.

  • @MrMousie10 Not all of us children are like that. I grew up with these games and I'm 14, ( I don't know why, but I just did).

  • I own this game 6 times (NES, GBA Classics, 3DS Ambassador, Wii Virtual Console and unlockable on Zero Mission and Metroid Prime) and everytime I just have to stand by the elevator and listen to this :D

  • I loved this game Classic

  • I seriously think I'm the only 15 year old I know that has actually played this game, let alone beaten it.

    :/ Feels bad man.

  • @Flamingrune77 You should feel bad.

  • @cabooses1fan

    ;-;

  • @Flamingrune77 I'm 14 and I beat it. Feelsgoodman.jpg

  • @xXJaKeSnIpEzXx I respect you.

  • @Flamingrune77 I'm 18 and geez I tried on playing on zero mission but god only starting with 30 health and no useful chozo statues to guide makes it very hard... i got about 10 missiles morph ball and bombs and long beam oh and an energy tank that rarely got any energy in it...

  • @Flamingrune77 Nope,I made my brother play the game. He's the same age.

  • @VideoGameMaster007 Good job.

  • Man, why is there so much blind hatred over CoD and Halo? I admit they will never top Nintendo classics and they get boring fast, but it seems that if someone's a CoD/halo fan he needs to be executed. And it's not like they're bad games either.

What's worse, everyone acts as if they are the only games that they think of when they hear PS3 or Xbox 360. Has nobody ever heard of series like Infamous, Portal and Metal Gear Solid?

PS3 and Xbox 360 and their games are not total abominations, guys.

  • @Ultraguy678 Well, when I was at high school, pretty much everyone just talked about how hardcore it was to play cod all night and how amazing the graphics are. When did CoD become the gold standard of gaming? A lot of people even say Nintendo and anything related is just for little kids and boring. It's not just blind hatred.

  • @nintendogs16 HAHAHA YOU HAVE TO DEAL WITH JUSTIN BEIBER HAHAHAHALAMFAOHAHAHA

    A!!

  • @kalbossa We all have to deal with Justin Bieber.

  • @nintendogs16 I agree completely. I'm 13 myself, and I wish I were born earlier so I could enjoy the late '80s-early '90s.

  • @nostalgia658 Doesn't mean you can't now. :P emulators are your friend.

  • @Darakudemon >Implying that modern availability will prevent me from buying a game

    Ahahahahahahahahahahahaha no.

  • Comment removed

  • Beautiful

  • @nintendogs16 Ima year older then you and i feel the same way

  • @nintendogs16 WHY YOU DIDN'T TAKE ENGLISH CLASS??

  • @AssassinTheHasson Stop hatin he's only 12. At least he respects the NES era. Unlike other cawwadooty kids

  • @partycakeboy92 I guess me and him are the same. My favorite era was probably the 90's, but I was born in '97, so I just had to go through the early 2000's, which were decent, but not as exciting.

  • I like the remix they did for Super Smash Bros. Melee, it's really creepy :D

  • @nintendogs16 i feel the same way, but I was born in the late 80s and also ask why I didn't born in the 70s. I hate this generation to. I'm more into the old 8 bit and 16 bit games than the new games that they have today.

  • Nice work.

  • @nintendogs16 Lol dude really uve lost the best generation blame to ur parents.....Oh this music ooooooooh old times........oh jesus thank you for all :D

  • @nintendogs16

Well at least you were born with the internet. Imagine us poor 80s people, having to buy every nintendo cartridge if we wanted to play it whenever. Imagine us being stuck in Castlevania II for weeks because you have to crouch at this exact spot for 30 seconds with NO ONE telling you to do it. You HAD to be subscribed to Nintendo Power if you wanted to play games.... Well wait, that was kinda cool actually. Games lasted for more than 8 hours :)

  • @Crockinator07 but to go out and buy a game was worth it. today you can rip a game in 2 hours, play through it for 8 hours, delete it and forget it. and if your stuck, you ask google, and proceed to play. that kills a lot of the challenge i think.

  • older games were so much better, i was born in 91, so i had the experience to at least grow up with a ton of great games =), hell our first system was nintendo, i remember sitting in my parents bedroom playing mario, marble madness, trog, and a bunch of other old games =) im glad i got to live through it all, i just miss it now...

  • @lilprplebnny OMG. . . .you just made my head explode with the "Marble Madness" reference!! I remember playing that game at the arcade as a kid! It was addictive!!

  • @DragonAurora i know marble madness was amazing as hell XD

  • This song is only matched by Super Metroid's Maridia 1

  • This music makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up!

  • Such an eerie soundtrack... this song's probably the creepiest of all.

  • @nintendogs16 Trust me, the whole lot of us definitely had it better in the late 90s, these days its nothing but big business rehashing old ideas and giving us the same old crap every year. Platformer-type games are a rarity these days, overtaken by first person shooters and role-playing games.

Sure these games are alright, but they all become stale after a while... I'm not much of an online gamer either, I'd rather it be me and four friends duking it out playing Smash Bros. in the living room!

  • @Spectacular66 Could not have set it better myself.

  • @Spectacular66 Isn't that kind of wrong though? Metroid wasn't made by an indie company, it was made by Nintendo. The console games back then were made by big companies.

These days there is more freedom in the market place for indie developers to make there way into your living room, or your pocket. I think we've cycled back to the time when anyone with some programming skills could make a game and put it out there. There are so many platforms for that to happen now. Anyway just sayin.

  • @datasoluble he's saying that NOW its bad. there are seven renditions of COD, many of Battlefield, metroid's being remade game by game, SSB had a remake. he's saying that all of the good original games are being remade into regurgitated piles of shit just so that gamer's won't have to adapt their gameplay style for anything.

  • @hawkesnightmare eight renditions of COD, forgot black ops.

  • @Spectacular66 So if the big companies are just recycling the same old crap, it's ok. There is a place for inventive people to compete, if they aren't being taken seriously by EA or whatever.

  • @datasoluble If anything, the indie companies should be getting all the attention right now

  • This would make beethoven and mozart shit their pants

  • @nintendogs16 um please use proper English please

  • My favorite part of this music is 00:31 and 1:16

  • Mega Man Ultra - Wily Stages 3 and 4

  • @nintendogs16 really? This generation is terrible? You have access to the entire world at your fingertips.

You can buy games on the internet, play them that day, and not even have to leave the house. We have video games this generation that are indistinguishable from real life. Jesus Christ, cell phones alone make this generation better than the 80's. Need I even mention all the uses of the internet?

  • @AndyNolastname Having access to everything ONLINE isn't all there is. Being able to play any games on any consoles doesn't mean anything if you can't appreciate what has been done before. Most games we see these days are mostly recycled retro stuff with adapted graphics anyways.

It is still nice to see some kids catching on NES games and being able to judge newer stuff with that perspective.

Ps. Cell phones in my opinion only make things worse, people now have less free time than ever.

  • @MagnumCrackoff I was bron in 92, when I began understanding VG and playing them, I started with SNES and Genesis, but now with downloadable stuff I'm able to play NES stuff, they're fun and all, but some games are super confusing and hard to play. Talking about hard, I'm trying to beat contra without the Konami Code :D

  • @AndyNolastname I think he means the PEOPLE and not inventions

  • @AndyNolastname, You just did a better job of explaining why this generation is terrible than he did. Good job.

  • i just recently beat kraid haha this tune is my favorite.

  • Nice tune. Reminds me a bit of Llorando Se Fue.

  • @nintendogs16 Wait, you "have" 12 years old, or you ARE 12? Lmao

  • @nintendogs16

HAHA I TOTALLY BORNED IN 1980. BUT NOW I HAVE 30 YEARS-OLD AND AM LISTENING TO NES SOUNDTRACKS ON YOUTUBE AND NOT MILLION DOLLARZING WITH PORNSTAR WIFE. IT IS KIND OF SUCK. -_-

  • @diswazyoozed LOLOL

  • This is really difficult, but I will give it a shot anyway...first off, "WHY I DIDN'T BORN IN THE 80'S?" I don't know why you didn't "born" in the 80's...I didn't born in the 80's either, I just played video games and killed ants like normal kids would do. Second issue: "I have 12 years old and i hate this generation, I HATE IT!" Hmm, The only conclusion I can derive is that you have a 12 year old child, and you hate this generation. So you didn't born in the 80's and you have a 12 year old. OK

  • @nintendogs16 lol same here im 2 and im sick of all the black ops shit!!!! i feel you this generation of "gamer" judge a game by how good the graphics are or how many guns there are!

  • @aricente So....umm....you're two?! LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL X^D X^D X^D LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL X^D X^D X^D...sorry.

  • @DragonAurora lmfa my keyboard is old and it doesent respond to all the heys i type i meant to say 12 XD

  • 9 persons are little 12 years old...

    *look the comment on top*

    OH SHIT !

  • @nintendogs16 emo

  • @nintendogs16 Get some emulators and have fun!

  • This game is the reason why i wish I was born in the 80's. D:

  • The worlds best example of FTW!

  • If only a remix of this was in a Metroid Prime game... But this version would still be better!!! 8D

  • @nintendogs16 i.agree.so.much

  • BTW, who the hell could dislike this??

  • @nintendogs16 i was born in the early 90s and was able to play this because we cold not afford a snes.

  • Aw, man.....memories on demand. #FTW

  • My troll detector is going haywire.

  • @nintendogs16 agreed, the current 10-14 years old from 2010-2011 sux major ballz in term of gaming and pop culture.

  • @nintendogs16 I'm older, but I understand you. The games,(and things in general) used to be better...

  • 7 people couldn't figure out the vertical block room to get out of Kraid's Lair.

  • 7 people want to seriously get bitch-slapped.

  • this is one of the best video game themes of all time. I wish there were an extended version.. like 10 SOLID minutes of nonstop KRAID!!

    seriously

  • This is amazing

  • @nintendogs16 maybe because you're a nerd who's username is nintendogs

  • @vicsONtheBOAT and can't phrase a sentence right.

  • 0:19 awww intense part.

  • I wish I was born in the 80s or 90s. The prime time for video games. Sure, they're amazing nowadays, but they just don't have the same charm as the old consoles did. They should make every Nintendo fan cry by making a brand new NES game sold on an NES cartridge and have 2011 be printed on it. That would be awesome...

  • @Waluiginumberone actually they did make a new nes game but it came out in 2009 thats why people dont know about that game its new and on the nes

  • @thebmoffice it wasn't a new nes game and the only new metroid games that have came out in the last few years were other m metroid prime 3 and metroid prime hunters.

  • @SlamTheLabel oh no i was just talking about their was a new nes game that recently came out it wasnt in the metroid series it was something different

  • @thebmoffice ? what game?

  • @SlamTheLabel battle kid:fortress of peril it came out in 2009

  • @nintendogs16 good comment, bad grammar.

  • this song is timeless, specifically this 8 bit rendition. the simplistic sound makes it much more creepy and interesting.

  • I'm 15 years old, and 8-bit and 16-bit tracks sound a whole lot better than most of today's game music, bar the other Metroid games.

  • @DanielL5583 same

  • @DanielL5583 you're a nerd

  • @vicsONtheBOAT I know. AND I'M PROUD!

  • @DanielL5583 you really shouldn't be. that's why you suck and girls don't like you

  • @vicsONtheBOAT Nothing wrong with being a nerd.

  • @vicsONtheBOAT Mate, calm down a little. There are plenty of girls who like video-gamers, and *are* video-gamers. Also, it's his life. Let him live it the way he wants. He's not hurting anyone.

  • @wkunzelman1 yeah ugly girls. go ahead and bang them

  • @vicsONtheBOAT So you think iJustine is ugly?? How about the G4 girls?

  • @vicsONtheBOAT I'd rather be a nerd than a douche bag.

  • someone put this on a keygen cus this is epic lol

  • @ss6hermy Play the game and sit in Kraid's Lair entrance if you want to listen to it so badly.

  • man this takes me back to 7th grade. i'm 35 now so man! the memories I had of playing this awesome game!

  • @nintendogs16 Then stop complaining about your boring little life and go buy a NES,

  • 346 people liked listening to this as never-ending wasps spawned and hit you as you were switching rooms and couldn't avoid/kill them.

  • The first thing that came to mind when I saw the picture: METROID Entertainment System

  • awesomest metroid music. ever.

  • Back when you didn't have the internet and actually had to puzzle solve a game.

  • @nintendogs16 dont you mean "Im 12 years old"?

  • @HuskersAlex English probably isn't his first language...

  • @SpiderMagic123 eather that or because HE 12 YEARS OLD -.- -Troll face-

  • @nintendogs16 you're not alone :(

  • you dare bring MISSLES to my lair?! YOU MUST DIE!!!

  • I had this fucking tune in my head one day and i found myself whistling it because its so awesome.

  • that swirled square in the bottom right corner in the picture looks like a fake dreamcast logo

  • SUPER BOMB !!!!!

  • This music scared so much shit out of me, as a kid. Even today, I get chills. This is some of the best, most atmospheric music you'll hear coming from the NES - and it is still a worthy track, even some 20 years later. Just, AWESOME. Even though I love Super Metroid's soundtrack as well, I have to give credit where due; this one track might actually beat out every track in SM. This just...you rarely get music this epic/haunting anymore, not even today.

NES Metroid>Zero Mission. Yeah, I said it.

  • @BohepansTheThird

    My first Metroid was ZM!

I was born in the late 90's! Yet I couldn't afford much, not even a gameboy!

Then one day I got GBA SP.One day my cousins lended me their ZM.

I fell in love with it so quickly. So much to find and do!

And the NES-version inside it was hard. But very atmospheric. (That really blowed me away since it was a NES-game.)

But still today some stupid nostalgic Metroid-fans bash this game and thus (in my view) the ones who played it as the first Metroid-game.

  • Just because a person thinks one is better doesn't mean the inferior one is complete garbage to them.

Final Fantasy X beats Final Fantasy 7 in my book. Both are good games in my book.

The Legend of Zelda beats Zelda 2 in my book. Both are still good.

Metroid NES beats Zero Mission in my book. That does _not_ mean I think Zero Mission sucks. My feelings on Zero Mission's value are in fact irrelevant. All I meant was that I prefer the NES version. I could have been nicer, but I wasn't THAT rude.

  • Harrowing.

  • ill admit I made a separate playlist containing only this song so I could hear it on a loop

  • @dismemberednecromorf just put "repeat" in the middle of the . and tube in the URL bar.

  • 8bit awesomeness

  • Comment removed

  • *eargasm*

  • Kraid is SO underrated. So far, he has only appeared in Metroid 1, Super Metroid and Zero Mission. While Ridley has appeared in the above mentioned games, plus, Metroid Prime 1 and 3, Metroid Fusion and Metroid other M. I hope they consider adding Kraid as a Boss in the next Metroid game.

  • @swordsmanoftime3001 he was also going to be in Metroid Prime but was scrapped to due time constraints. That would have been a good fight

  • @NoopsPlayer3 You´re right. That WOULD have been a good fight on metroid prime. I wish they had him for Other M instead of the lava boss they put in sector 3 since it fits Kraid really well.

  • @swordsmanoftime3001 Totally. But it didnt happen unfourtunatly. When they make another 3-D metroid they better have Kraid as a boss

  • @swordsmanoftime3001 Well, Kraid was officially killed In Super Metroid, eliminating him from appearing in any later games (Other M and Fusion). The space pirates weren't on SR388, and thus no Metroid II. But I agree that he is overrated, and that he should have been in Prime 1, and hopefully in any future games.

  • @monkybros The same can be said for Ridley. Samus defeated Ridley in Super Metroid, yet he somehow still shows up in other Metroid games.

  • @swordsmanoftime3001 yes but in other m they revived ridley and he got killed, in fusion they maby revived ridley again(they could have saved the dna lol) and have frozen him down

  • @MetroidChild Ridley was cloned in Other M from the DNA on Samus' final Suit in Super Metroid... Dont ask me how he manages to recognise Samus though (that's worthy of an essay). In Other M Ridley actually got packed raped by the metroids, who drained his energy leaving a husk which then was presumably moved to the BSL (pre-Fusion). In Fusion an X parasite takes over him, so it's not even the original Ridley anymore. Could be partly why Nintendo doesn't base games after Fusion.

  • 0:31 to 0:44

  • My favorite theme of ANY metroid game. I was so upset that neither Kraid nor his music appeared in Other M.

  • 5 people never climbed back out of kraid's lair

  • @samy29987 I CANT CLIMB THAT!!

  • You know what's awesome (besides the obvious) about Metroid? When I click on a Metroid-related Youtube link, most of the comments usually pass my comment filter application.

  • classic

  • I really wont this game

  • great music for a haunted house

  • I want a bass tab for this song sooo badly too lol

  • You know what this fucking song reminds me of? the long passage down where you can't go back up through and narrow passages where you need to be in ball form.

It portrays a feeling of annoyance.

Its easy once you know the way though.

  • I remember when I first played metroid and the first time I got to this part of the game and heard this music. I just let Samus stand there for a second while I listened to it. It almost felt as if my surroundings where coming to life.

  • Man I love this tune... it's the best Metroid tune... but so is lower Norfair from Super Metroid... and so is the Torvus Temple... Ah screw it, all Metroid tunes are the best, both originals and remakes.

  • @Moronbasher

Yeah, except the music (or should i say lack-of), in Other M. That game was such a dissapointment.

  • @KingDiamondHead It was a disappointment? Huh... I never played it but it looked pretty cool. o.o;

  • @Moronbasher it only looked. Once you play it, it was indeed kinda disappointed. It still looks awesome, and it has decent action

  • @esmefort2 Oh... well I guess maybe it's for the best I never got it. ^^:

  • Ahh, I was 4. Give me a Viking funeral. First game i ever beat.

  • Because of this song that was sent to me once, I started to play the whole Metroid saga.

  • 8-bit sounds more simpler but it sounds the best cuz its more creepy imo.
