  • How long did this mod take you? This is the only mod from your videos other than the 3200 governor install that I haven't done to my old cummins, and I think I'm going to give it a shot.

  • @TheMrAMack Takes me like 20 minutes now .....hour then. you do need a 13mm S-wrench to get the very bottom pump bolt it's a pain

  • @91CTD :Thanks for the info! I'm gonna give it a shot over my spring break. Ill try to post some videos of my old truck too.

  • Great videos, I appreciate them. Does any of the pump mods sacrifice pump life at all? I had 224,000 miles on the stock ve pump before it finally died. Smokey mess when it finally quit.

I'm thinking seriously about a new M&H fuel pin along with your recommendations on the pump screws. So far all i've done is a 4'' diamond eye exhaust and 40hp Lucas Injectors.

    Thanks

  • @416rm Nah the pump will bef ine. M&H makes a good pin. Sounds like with POD injectors you're gonna have alot of fuel. be sure to have at least boost and EGT gauge, EGT Pyro mounted pre-turbo.

  • yeah this after a while will mess ur the pump two of my friends pumps kept messing up and thats y it will help a little but its not worth it in the long run just saying the pumps are about a $1000 +or- $100 depending on where you get it

  • @CR125killer It doesn't have anything to do with the pump itself so It can't mess it up. Don't mislead people.

You are changing when the injection event happens, doesn't change ANYTHING to do with the injection pump.

  • i have a 1992 dodge cummins and i just checked the 2 slits, one is on the timming cover but there is not one on the pump.how can i make the right measurement if there isnt a line?

  • Good Job !

  • I looked at the pump position on my truck, it is as far advantanced as possible. I have 92 Intercooled with Auto O.D. It seems low on power and does NOT smoke at all. Does the pump need removed and moved a tooth on the gears behind the cover or does mine have a problem?

  • @Black80Z Someone could have already advanced it

When these things are really stock alot of timing only hurts the bottom end performance...plus you have a 21cm exhaust housing because it's a 92...It's easy to tell theres a "21" cast into the BACK of the exhaust housing , like right above where the exhaust pipe goes into the turbo. you'll have to get a flashlight and get up in the engine bay.

This combo will make SPOOL UP horrible....Get a HX35 turbo with a 12cm housing off a 94-98 truck.

  • do you have to set the motor on tdc to do this?

  • @nighthawk175 nope.

  • Yes, please show us the full power screw...lol I adjusted my smoke screw only and thought I better stop there. But now after watching you I have more confidence to go farther. Watch out America! My Dodge is cumming!

  • Have you tinkered with the "full power screw" on the back of the VE pump? And if so, could you post a video on how to adjust that?

    Thanks, Spartus09

  • @spartus09 yea i keep saying i'll get around to it. it's a fun little screw but messing with it requires you to have at least an EGT gauge mounted pre turbo

  • i didn't catch where them bolts were the first five times show us a few more times please...geeeezz get on with it already!!!

  • Wouldn't it be easier to use a timing gauge?

  • @rozz80 Very expensive and unnecessar for this.

  • great vid!

  • is this hard on all the lines? im just thinking all that twisting force would it cause them to kink or bind or break or somthing?

  • @randomb0b123 done it 10x+ , so has everyone on the internet. they twist/flex as needed. no horror stories of anything bad ever happening.

  • I found that with the intercooled valve cover, if you drill a hole like 5/8" or something into the piece of wood for the nut to set up into, it really helps you put the board exactly where you want it.

  • hey man ive got a 92 cummins auto and i bought it about a month ago and i plan on makin it my everyday driver, so i am wanting the best mpg possible. What do you recommend i do to it i plan on makin my own cold air intake runnin a 4" turbo back exhaust and doin the 1/8" adj and the throttle linkage, is there anything else i should do, thanks

  • MPG depends on your right foot. Get a tighter torque converter will help everything alot, power, mpg etc....

  • so should i turn up the pump at all do you think

  • oh yea definely turn it up

  • so what do u think i should do?

  • uhh it still has power and makes boost bc i got my boost gaguge and i have drove it like that

  • hey my boost tube is not hooked up on my 1990 dodge cummins what does the boost tube do and should i hook it back up

  • ummm yea thats very important. i bet it has like no power?

if thats not hooked up no boost will get to the AFC to push the fuel pin down. which means no fuel, no boost, no power...have you been driving it like that?

  • thanks nice info bro. DO I NEED TO DO ANY UPGRADES ON ANYTHING ELSE AFTER THESE TUNING to my truck if i do LET ME KNOW BRO..

  • I'm gonna make a nother video soon on how to turn up the main power screw. otherwise known as the fuel screw because it simply turns up fuel, all we did here was adjust when fuel comes in.

If your truck is an automatic i suggest upgrading your torque converter.factory one slips alot, aftermarket converter will put more torque to the ground

  • Free flowing exhaust and a good flowing intake with a big filted helps spool up alot.

how many turns did you put the starwheel down ?

  • maybe1 1/2 ta 2 turns ive got 3 inch from the turbo under the cab then 5 inch y to 6 inch stacks so id say that pretty good exaust flow what do u suggest as far as the intake flow mines still factory

  • ASA modifieds intake is a good one, comes with a good amsoil filter.

    check out pdr diesel.

  • So how much power & torque does this mod give you

  • i have no idea, GOOD power, hows that?

just do it, don't ask questions :P

  • This will cool egts as well. After advancing its hard to break 1200 degrees with pump mods.with an intercooler of course.Nice video.props.

  • It's Pretty Easy To Break 1200* even with an intercooler...

  • Ive got a 6" core aftermarket intercooler up front and 4" exhaust.i guess i should have mention that

  • Hey i found your video helpful, but i resent that florida redneck remark. lol

  • Sorry, no pun intended to floridians

  • I'm from Jersey and i had just gotten braces you dick.

You obviously have NO idea what you're commenting on so please go away.

Your speakers must really suck, i clearly said hole.

Go pick on some dumb videos of rednecks in florida or something, not my educational video that everyone else seems to appreciate besides your faggot ass.

  • I'm quite new to diesels, so please forgive my ignorance. What does advancing the pump timing do, to benefit the performance, and mileage? does it allow the fuel to be drawn into the cylinder sooner, and/ or allow more fuel to be drawn in? trying to get my mind around the concept, but I need help with this... any assistance would be helpful. Does this adjustment work best with, or without adjusting the fuel pin and smoke screw?

  • THis adjustment works good with the other adjustments. you'll feel a nice upgrade in throttle response and all range power.

You're starting the combustion event earlier.

the reason the factory didn't advance it more from the factory was because of emissions. It raises cylinder pressure and more gases are emitted.

Im not scientist, or diesel expert. all i know is when you advance the timing on a 1st generation cummins it adds nice power and fuel mpg.

  • Thanks for the response 91CTD, Yea I tried the rubber mallet even with tension on the strap and even tried a punch. I sprayed around the pump flange with WD40. I will give it another try when the rain stops.

    Thanks.

    mojack

  • Crossy,

Nice to see you back. I tried to make this adjustment paying close attention to your video. Detailed very well. I was not able to get my pump to move. I had all the nuts and bolts loosen to finger tight and it still would not move. I was afraid to put too much pressure with the ratchet. I had removed the banjo bolt do I need to remove any other lines? Have you ever ran into this problem?

    Thanks. mojack

  • Did you use a strap? Rubber mallet?

The pump sometimes get stuck on the aluminum case, and when you moving the pump your actually twisting the fuel return line, your twisting it inside its little nut end.

So sometimes it takes a little more to move it... if you have all 3 bolts out and the one nut... and the banjo bolt/line is out..

give the pump head a wack with a rubber mallet WITH tension on it from the strap.

  • Glad to see you back on man. Great videos

  • Thanks, hopefully my account won't get deleted again.

  • Yeah!!!! It's back on.
