President Lincoln would visit his 11-year-old son Willie's body (and by "visit," I mean he would actually go to Willie's crypt, open the coffin lid, and view Willie's body) after he died of typhoid during the Civil War. Lincoln said it gave him comfort. Weird? Maybe, but it hardly interfered with Lincoln's ability execute his duties as president. Eugene Robinson's Civil War-era ancestors, who were undoubtedly slaves at the time, would've been the first to attest to that.
MSNBC hate speech. Classic.
