We should have universal healthcare like France, or any other country with common sense. I'm not sure the answer is trying to idiot-proof everything. A better approach would be to have more informed voters. They existed in the past. What that law would do is force out someone who is a valuable asset. Both ways have flaws.

If you have a good understanding of markets and economics, you can be opposed to a public option. it isn't that people WANT people to suffer, it is that they believe that a public option will ultimately make it worse for everyone and once something gets passed, you're pretty much stuck with it no matter how bad it turns out.

I respectfully disagree. If you understand the principles of what capitalism supposed to be about a public option just makes common sense.

All private insurance companies have to do is provide a better package than what the government can offer at a lower cost to the consumer. That will be enough to compete with the government.

Under the current situation THERE IS NO REAL COMPETITION. The insurance companies set the price, and deny claims and keep the money.

With for profit insurance, the aim is only to maximise profits, not to provide the best care for consumers, and any profits made goes back to the Ceo's pockets.

In a government run system, if the program makes a profit, it goes back into the government to lower the deficits or to fund other government programs, which will ultimately lead to tax cuts.

This is why countries with government systems, arent paying as much as us

By your logic, education should be getting better. Children should be getting smarter, but they don't. It is quite the opposite. They get more funding the worse they perform.

No one is argueing against a free market approach thats the point of the public option. Private companies will need to compete and provide better services for their customers, in order to be profitable.

Insurance companies are another story. They're all wrong and there is a medical-pharmaceutical industrial complex thing going on which is being hugely supported by government. Medical insurance needs to be handled differently which would include them not covering every single aspect of treatment. It's for emergencies or fatal illness...or should be. Also, the money being invisible to the consumer is another issue and I'm out of characters to type.
