@gatoradeee Stephen Colbert the character and Stephen Colbert the person are two entirely diffreent people. This interview is all in character, as is his show. The real Stephen Colbert is actually a democrat, and is very different from the character.
@gatoradeee Watch an interview of him not in character. He's very humble and quiet, and says that he doesn't even allow his children to watch his show because he doesn't want them to think of him as that person. He knows how to turn the character on and off, he just doesn't choose to do so for the public unless the situation demands it. Watch an interview of him being himself before you make a judgement.
Laughing is always breaking character for Stephen Colbert because his dead-pan style is part of his character. Once the dead-pan seriousness breaks, so does his character.
What a politically correct comic. Just a joke. He can't think of anything really. Colbert can't measure up to even the little finger of a George Carlin. His career is dependent on saying just the right thing, how sad
I don't know. I think it's just his personality. He's never struck me as a particularly antagonistic guy- he's said before that he likes people who come on his show not to feel uncomfortable.
He explained the whole name thing on Charlie Rose. They grew up ColberTs; his father had always wanted to be Col-bear but didn't want to offend his own father by changing it, so he stayed ColberT but told his kids to choose. Some chose ColberT, others Col-bear. Stephen's been Col-bear since college. So when he calls himself ColberT on the show, in moments of "weakness," it's just for effect, as a joke about the idea that the character's this egotist who's trying to hide his past. It's not real.
As his character, he says didn't vote for Obama. As Stephen Colbert, the man, he most certainly did vote for Obama. He was crying backstage after election night coverage with Jon Stewart because he was so happy Obama won.
Actually, you're the dipshit asshole. His name is Colbert with the T... he's Irish Catholic. His CHARACTER is Stephen Coal-bear, the character he launched on the Daily Show... and it's made him famous, so that's what he goes with nowadays, is his character because that's how people know him, so stop being a dick and go get some friends for a change.
since you have a really long reply about a conversation not involving u i believe you don't have anyone to talk to or you are menopausal. its pronounced coal-bear get over it.
That's hilarious... posting a comment on a global public forum is a "conversation not involving me".... and then for extra idiocy you throw in "menopausal," making even less sense.
i don't remember you that much but from reviewing your comments, i don't much like you. i can't even see the last comment i made, it got too many thumbs down. you were vulgar so i thought i would return the favor. and i don't care how it used to be said, it is now pronounced COAL BEAR and is spelled COLBERT. hope that removed all doubts.
Actually, there never was doubt and you're still wrong...he still pronounces it Col-bert at certain times: whenever he gets too worked up, he catches himself and says "get it together Col-bert!" Also, his attorney brother he has on the show sometimes pronounces it Col-bert. Their father gave them the choice of how they wanted to do it.
you keep thinking i'm "wrong" and you are "right". let me remind you what i have said: it may have been pronounced coal-bert BEFORE but it is pronounced coal-bear NOW. there you go.

@anaselhaouat I know its kinda hard to believe, but Colbert has what it takes
Jevan2010 10 months ago
@Jevan2010 right, except that colbert shows his so called character ignorance and denial, whereby letterman tells it

Colbert has Irish blood in him.
Bill O'reilly has Irish blood in him.
Colbert is a swell guy.
Bill is a troglodyte homunculus ape.
Hmmm, I guess not all Irish are cool.

This is one man that both liberals and conservatives love, even if its for all the wrong reasons.
He is king of political comedy and parodies. Flipped bush off in his face during his own party too, Colbert has balls of adamantium.

I'm not sure how laughing is breaking character, since he laughs on his show quite frequently.
torgosassistant 2 years ago 3
his character is quite in synch with his own personality i guess...but more amplified, with a faux conservative streak. lol.
