but according to a comment (it says 2 years ago) you said that there are exporters (my need is for maya) but all i found in the program directory is 'egg importer' that works to import in maya not to export
awesome, downloading source code thing now, i have some character models for my rez 2... can i edit the character models inn this or are they stuck as they where when you did this video?
Hello... well as you may know, the models are in .egg format... unfotunately i don't have the original files for them... but you can import the egg models in your favorite model package if you want to... those are just simple shapes from 3DS MAx though, nothing special :P
Have fun with the source code... there is a project called IOverFlow, which was meant to be a rez clone.. I gave this code to that project.. but I have had little time to even look at it.. you may want to contact them...
You can convert from .x t .egg with a special program found wihtin the engine (xtoegg.exe i believe)... and there is also an exporter from 3dsmax to .egg... you can find both by downloading the engine at the official site panda 3d . org
Hello, I have milkshape 3d as model editor, after converting to .egg using x2egg I am not able to convert the obtained mesh to .bam, nor use it as actor.
I searched the web and the manual, but could not find what is the problem and also - what are the .pz files and how do I operate them?
Can someone help me plz, because I really want to finish my project and the 3d models start to piss me off. :(
You can convert your models into .bam using the egg2bam utility, and back using bam2egg. That's the only way to convert to/from bam files.
.pz files are compressed files, you can use pzip (also provided with Panda3D) on a file to compress it, that will add the .pz extension automatically. Use punzip for the other way around.
Hmm well I'm really not sure... this was just a demo for university... but it looks pretty fun to keep going... maybe when I have more time (proably next year) ill make a more complete version.. with the abilyti to choose worlds enemys, bosses, and who know maybe a map editor! However I'm not sure...
However you can still check out the source code in the panda3d webiste if somebody wants to biuld upon the demo :P
Hello. Panda 3d at the moment does not have a level editor (there is one in the works, but it may teka a while befor its even moderately usable) nevertheless its a pretty neat engine, and Python is very easy to learn :).
thanks. I'll look into it more. Curious (I'm new at 3D design) how do you design all your level layout (gound, walls, etc) without a level editor in Panda3d?
You do directly in your favorite modeling package, panda3d has its own model format .egg (It is human readable so you can make changes or create your own exporter, and you can compile to .bam) There are exporters for 3ds Max, Maya and Blender, dont worry, it recognizes when its a model or an animation and adapts accordingly...
I'm sorry for my older comments. I was such an illiterate fool.

I never used the Maya exporter, so I can't help you, sorry :(.
But I am pretty sure you can find all the information about it in the panda3d manual or the panda3d forums in the panda3d website. Good Luck!

Nice job. How did you do the level design? Does Panda3d offer a level editor utility?
