If you want to work on your hips, my advice would be to master lunge variations, backwards sled dragging and forward harness pulling. My featured video on my youtube video right now has sled drag/harness pulling and it's exactly what would strengthen your hips ridiculous over time.
Should he be sitting like in a regular deadlift when he does sumo? or just like in regular deadlift where u got two forms - one using the back and other using more legs and entire body?
the form looked great if your hips are weak theres 2 things i do for it i do low wide stance box squat from about where my hips start at in my pull also adductor/abductor machine (not one of the cable but a hammer strenght plate loaded) good luck with your hips
i'm only in highschool, but i had the same situation as you. could only lift heavy conventional, but wanted to go sumo for the lower range of movement. the first week or so, my hips were killin me! but i found that if you point your toes outward more instead of forward, it will put way less stress on your hip flexers., and it will feel a whole lot better! my deadlift went up 70 lbs in 2 weeks since i switched.
You look like your all one very strong chain of movement. I actually had to go from sumo to a more convential style stance for dead lifting to improve my lift. You look strong!
keep your shoulders back throughout the whole lift. that means start with a lighter weight. i used to have the same issue.

good. but don't extend your back when you get to the top. i'm sure it will help build some muscle, but it puts unneccesary stress on the vertebrae.

I feel stronger in a conventional stance, but my hips are very weak and I think this will help.
