This is only possible when the track is quite dry. He's using a regular rental bowlingball You need a professional bowlingball to do that on a proper maintained lane / well oiled lane. And that requiers another technique.

This is not how to hook a ball, its only how to show how much you "know" amung non-bowlers. By turning the hand over top the ball w/ 2 fingers causes the ball to spin and not hook nearly as much as somebody using their thumb, finger-tip grip, and turning through the ball. The 2 finger delievery is only for those not strong enough to hook the ball correctly
i would like to let you know i can hook a house ball with all three fingers in it if you need a vid to prove it i will post one but you can really hurt yourself doing this with the one and half finger technique that your using and pleez no one else that watches this vid it is the wrong way to throw a hook and it is highly advised not to try it this way you can break fingers and or your wrist doing it this way if you don't know what you are doing

People like to bowl this way because it's initially easier to get some kind of hooking reaction out of a house ball. I see a lot of grown ass men using an 8 pound ball and using this dumbasses technique and thinking they're actually good when in reality they are inconsistent. Buy a reactive resin ball with a good core and fingertip grips if you wanna bowl a REAL hook.

This is the worst lesson to give for how to hook a bowling ball. I've been playin for a few years now and I can honestly tell you, throwing by hooking one finger only and the way he showed, it will severly injure your finger/wrist, and if you can't keep the ball in your hand, gutter it ALOT. I bet he can't hit the same shot twice that way. Hook is all about wrist motion. It's turning the wrist just before releasing the ball. The hand should finish perpendicular to the ground. Like shaking hand.
I have seen two fingers only, I have seen four finger, yes , four fingers one thumb. Three fingers it does not matter. Everyone has their own style. Don't hate.
@Jayhtyme I'm not sure how someone would manage to do it. The technique he is showing here is called "shoveling" I use the technique with great success. In fact I find it is better on my wrest than your traditional "tweener"

umm this is called palming the ball or 2 finger bowling
its ok and u get better faster compared to 3 finger bowling... but if u keep bowling 3 finger for 1+ years you will end up being better since 2 finger is way to inconsistent even if u hav been doing it for awile... 3 finger is the way to go if u are going to be bowling for more than 2 years
and there is nothing rong with bowling 2 finger there are a couple pros that do it but u need to learn how to properly throw it!

I just thought of something after bowling with a professional yesterday.
He told me you have to leave your hook-ball to a shop to oven away the oil that is absorbed. You have to clean the ball between shots. You have to have different balls because the lanes are differently oiled. You have to become good at an. multiaxial movement.
I thought: Why not practice for years to shoot perfectly straight. You can strike with a straight shot? Eliminates issues with oil/ball etc.
@peterpunch1 Actually u dont leave your ball in an oven to get the oils out but every so often, its illegal to clean the ball in between shots, and if your a decent bowler you can adjust to the lanes instead of using many different balls. I personally use 2 balls, a strike ball which has a medium break, and a spare ball which has minimum break. And also a straight ball will not get as much pin action as a breaking ball, thats why people do it, so your pretty much completely wrong. lol

I see kids do this in my bowling alley all the time, but with two fingers, no thumb, and cupped. They'll never be good with this technique. They'll bowl a 165 one game, and come back and bowl a 76.
Anyone really wanting to learn how to bowl please ignore this completely. I hate walking into a bowling center and seeing kids trying to hook the ball like this. They look have no control of where the ball is going, half of which end up in the ditch. There are pros that do not use a thumb but they still dont throw it like this guy. See your local pro shop for advice and lessons.

I used this technique for the first time today in my league. I tried all the other techniques, and all of them failed to work for me. Well, except for one, but I hardly got any spin with it.
YOUR technique, on the other hand, it gernerated lots of curve for me. The only three problems that I'm sure I can fix are a) the position I start at, b) the speed I use (with your technique, my ball goes rather slow), & c) my mom who always sits on the sidelines thinks it looks stupid. I'm keeping it.
Seems very good, but my advice would be to at least use two fingers, if not, if you are throwing anything heavier than a 6 and it comes off badly, you might have a broken finger. I have been using that technique for 2 years, not too bad.
ok people that are serious about bowling and wanna get good.... please dont do this it will only create bad habits. and its bad for ur wrist.. just keep straight bowling untill u think u got the hang of it, then go to finger tips.. start curving only when u get finger tips or else its gonna create bad habits. such as going across your body and so on. just a suggestion. i curved with out finger tips and, at that time it seemed like going across my body was the only way. i fixed it but it was hard
That is horribul advice. Im only an ameture but i use my thumb and it works. and turning your hand over till its hyper extended thats a no no u can really mess yout wrist up.
This is how I threw my ball when i switched from back-up. It's not a good technique but it is a good starting point to hook the ball to the left. Once you become comfortable with this release introduce the thumb and work from there.
I broke my hand playing football and if i use my thumb to bowl my hand will cramp up severely so this is how i bowl. that being said, it does put a lot of strain on your wrist.
Those lanes must have been dry as hell... for a house ball to hook like that...lol do that on a fresh shot of oil with the same 14 lbs. ball and the same finger with the whistle..lol
You left the 8-pin...my nemesis. Anyway, I used to bowl like this in league and stuff and threw a 299 and a 288 doing it. It's hard to control, but gives you sick hook potential. Just don't hurt yourself doing this. It's easy to do.

I tried his new ball with three fingers and the ball magically hooked. its not a very easy way to bowl. takes a lot of time n practice to learn to control it. i dnt use my thumb. i've bowled like this for .. idk even kno how long. my dad bowled like this too. he has two 300 games using this technique. it does take time but when u learn its very easy to control. my high is 212. yea that's not very good but i dnt bowl that often. im in a league rite now tho n my average is 164. so .. its hard but easy. i recommend it actually

In fact, many unprofessional bowlers use this technique. The problem is that you lose control with the ball; you can't aim as well. You will hardly ever see a professional use this technique, because it's easy to learn, but hard to become really good at.
Yeah, I have no desire to become a professional bowler, so I'm okay with just messing around with the technique shown in the video (which gives my friends the impression that I know how to curve the ball). And sometimes I try the "two-handed bowling" style, in hopes that using 2 hands will prevent injuries.
@FlytrapStudios nah its not the hardest to master aim. eventually it will become your hand and wont even have to think about placement. just remeber with this style power is your enemy

Not putting your thumb in the ball creates more revs and speed. Its rely a matter of picking up your spares. You will strike more for sure but can you controll it enough to pick up the 10 pin? Over all I think it's a better way to throw but takes much more time to master.
I bowl without a thumb. I have bowled for just over a year now, was in a league last year, and am in 2 leagues right now. My league average is 177. I still think i am improving, so i am going to keep using it.
I bowl with a 13 lbs urethene ball. The urethene ball helps me to not overhook the ball, and i use lighter ball just to add control since you do lose some bowling without a thumb.
This is definitely not the recommended way to bowl, but if it works for you, then use it.
i would love to give this guy a calculus lesson and show him how funny his attitude really is to people

I used this technique for the first time today in my league. I tried all the other techniques, and all of them failed to work for me. Well, except for one, but I hardly got any spin with it.
YOUR technique, on the other hand, it gernerated lots of curve for me. The only three problems that I'm sure I can fix are a) the position I start at, b) the speed I use (with your technique, my ball goes rather slow), & c) my mom who always sits on the sidelines thinks it looks stupid. I'm keeping it.

Seems very good, but my advice would be to at least use two fingers, if not, if you are throwing anything heavier than a 6 and it comes off badly, you might have a broken finger. I have been using that technique for 2 years, not too bad.

ok people that are serious about bowling and wanna get good.... please dont do this it will only create bad habits. and its bad for ur wrist.. just keep straight bowling untill u think u got the hang of it, then go to finger tips.. start curving only when u get finger tips or else its gonna create bad habits. such as going across your body and so on. just a suggestion. i curved with out finger tips and, at that time it seemed like going across my body was the only way. i fixed it but it was hard

That is horribul advice. Im only an ameture but i use my thumb and it works. and turning your hand over till its hyper extended thats a no no u can really mess yout wrist up.

This is how I threw my ball when i switched from back-up. It's not a good technique but it is a good starting point to hook the ball to the left. Once you become comfortable with this release introduce the thumb and work from there.

I broke my hand playing football and if i use my thumb to bowl my hand will cramp up severely so this is how i bowl. that being said, it does put a lot of strain on your wrist.

You left the 8-pin...my nemesis. Anyway, I used to bowl like this in league and stuff and threw a 299 and a 288 doing it. It's hard to control, but gives you sick hook potential. Just don't hurt yourself doing this. It's easy to do.

I did that a hundreds times. But that is not standard for ball release.
I used reactive bowling ball during my league. never used plastic ball for my spare.
Hooking ball is just like you'te driving your car. Yoy can go curve, hook and straight.

lol seriously xD hes not saying hes professional, hes just showing you all of a cool ass way to bowl! when i curve the ball it usually works out, my step dad and uncle BOTH do this, both have had perfect games with this tech.(tournaments for uncle) so probaly around professional level and tthey still use it.

You're a retard, you'll never have any consistency or speed on the ball doing that. Get a real ball that fits properly, and ROLL it properly.
Hook is nothing more than a byproduct of a smooth, quick, and proper release.
You got 9 pins one time, you got lucky.

I used to play like that,but I had an average of 130.
Just recently I started learning how to throw a real hook (3 fingers),and well,after just 4 games I got an average of 110 using all 3 fingers.
Got to admit that I wasn't using it because I was afraid that my fingers would get stuck

i used to bowl this way when i couldn't hook the ball with three fingers. Then I tried my bro's new polyester ball which ain't made for spinning either. I tried his new ball with three fingers and the ball magically hooked. In-house balls are horrible imo but once you start getting how to naturally hook with 3 fingers, everything else becomes easy to hook... even in-house balls. Can't wait till i get the Mutant Cell

Sorry, its a horrible thing to teach people who really want to learn to bowl. I league bowl as well and hold a 230 scratch. I used to bowl like this...165 was my average then and I had a sore elbow all the time. You do the math my friend.

its not a very easy way to bowl. takes a lot of time n practice to learn to control it. i dnt use my thumb. i've bowled like this for .. idk even kno how long. my dad bowled like this too. he has two 300 games using this technique. it does take time but when u learn its very easy to control. my high is 212. yea that's not very good but i dnt bowl that often. im in a league rite now tho n my average is 164. so .. its hard but easy. i recommend it actually

Ive been bowling for 7 weeks (7 times)....on Thursdays....First 5 weeks = 2 fingers...high score = 188....Last 2 weeks = 3 fingers (thumb)...high score = 256....Next.

By the way, illegal or not.. go ahead and throw this way... Only bowl 2 games...not three. save the money from the third game for elbow surgery. Seriously, a great way to eff-up your elbow quickly. Go to your bowling center and take a REAL lesson....

In fact, many unprofessional bowlers use this technique. The problem is that you lose control with the ball; you can't aim as well. You will hardly ever see a professional use this technique, because it's easy to learn, but hard to become really good at.

Yeah, I have no desire to become a professional bowler, so I'm okay with just messing around with the technique shown in the video (which gives my friends the impression that I know how to curve the ball). And sometimes I try the "two-handed bowling" style, in hopes that using 2 hands will prevent injuries.

Not putting your thumb in the ball creates more revs and speed. Its rely a matter of picking up your spares. You will strike more for sure but can you controll it enough to pick up the 10 pin? Over all I think it's a better way to throw but takes much more time to master.

I bowl without a thumb. I have bowled for just over a year now, was in a league last year, and am in 2 leagues right now. My league average is 177. I still think i am improving, so i am going to keep using it.
I bowl with a 13 lbs urethene ball. The urethene ball helps me to not overhook the ball, and i use lighter ball just to add control since you do lose some bowling without a thumb.
This is definitely not the recommended way to bowl, but if it works for you, then use it.

If you are using a houseball and playing around with your friends, sure this is fine.
The reason why I wouldn't suggest doing this is because the roll it creates will not give you the highest carry percentage
