Stephen is GREAT. He has written me 2 nice reply letters when I had questions about buying my m3-88 and then about it. Jordan may be a better pianist but who invented KARMA for KORG? It is like nothing else out there. It's not for everybody, but it can do amazing things if you get to know how to use it, and it keeps getting better and better year after year. You shouldn't judge what you don't know or understand. Preconcieved notions are bad KARMA. ROZERAM
@BLACKSUNR1SE becasue are not mastering or processed in high fidelity recorders otherwise your speakers or headphones are not for listen a $8000 instrument, or maybe it is you. Some people say Access Virus in the best sound, others say it is the Jupiter 8, others say It is the Alesis Andromeda.
All are fantastic instruments some people done have karma with some instruments, nothing wrong with, is perfectly normal.
@BLACKSUNR1SE Did you expect anything less from a dude that looks like Kenny G? I agree. They all sound like 80's promotional DVD intros. That always bugged me about keyboard demos.
You could spend 8 Hours a day everyday for the rest of your life going through all this synth/workstation has too offer, and you wouldnt see everything it can do because you would die of old age first.
You could spend 8 Hours a day everyday for the rest of your life going through all this synth/workstation has too offer, and you wouldnt see everything it can do because you would die of old age first.
this instrument is a beast...Korg should have not overpriced it and charged about $4500 for it and it would have still been in production...that is what you can get them on ebay for now so that is the demand.
Complex..very complex machine..but one of the best digital synthesizers ever made..i love the Oasys, and the Elektron machines..and the Nord Modulars :-))
Wow, what an expensive lift music generator. Doubtless a powerful tool for the compositional side of things, but the patches here sound particularly vile.
Haha... I'd liken this thing to Microsoft Windows 7, very cheesy cheapo looking LCD screen. Never mind it runs a customized Linux operating system, 'cause it would piss Mr. Gates.
@sciences8 No sure why you are suggesting that I kill myself, although according to the survival of the fittest, I definitely don't stand a chance. Nonetheless, I am still alive, and I very much prefer sports-car-like sexy Nord Lead 1 or 2, instead of this clumsy mama SUV-type OASIS thing, with the oversized GPS navigation system.
@phadedlife well i know he did it and the synths are good, but i mean i wanted to hear some real voices like Strings,Voilen's,Symphony's etc, beacuse such a costly machine should have some real sounding voices or real instruments...actually i am more inturested in real instruments and i like to use Vst's like HollyWood strings etc...
is this the real Stephen Kay who did the demo songs on the Korg Trinity? I love this guy, he once replied to me years ago by letter when I asked him for advice. Such a nice guy, hope he is doing well.
I have been a Roland guy since 1984 and owned nothing other since. I don't really see this as an instrument more then pre-built sequences that anyone can solo over. I am paying for sounds and quality. I don't really see anything this does that my Fantom X or Jv-80/880, D-110, U-110, or even Jv-30 cannot do. Well, I guess we can leave the Jv-30 out of it :) Expensive toy as far as I'm concerned.
yea i've never played one! it's expensive! but i realise that is a very good synth! bx3, piano (300 mb piano sample? WTF!!), polysix synth engine, 2gb sampling memz, etc!
but, the hardware spec i think are getting too old... pentium 4? is it 2,4 or 2,8 ghz?
i think korg should release new version of oasys featuring core i 5 or i3, or phenom?
because newer open labs workstation is armed with new i3 engine... even it's just loaded with 61 keys, but the hardware surely good! haha
I've used this patch with the M3 and it's an amazing thing.... i've used it in a keyboard solo i need to upload that video but i love the karma technology and all that it does
Who amongst you could safely say that you would've popped 8 large for this when you get get everything you need on a computer platform for HALF(maybe even less) the PRICE!
A Korg is a Korg is a Korg.
It's like eating at Denny's-everything tastes/sounds the same.
It's a shame that Korg have ceased production of this unique workstation, for this IS NO OTHER hardware keyboard quite like this. Open Labs have Karma incorporated to their latest Gen, but the depth is just not there, as with build quality and design aesthetics. The Korg M3 similarly does not quite match up to the Oasys in those areas, though it is a very worthy successor. As for Mr Kay's abilities, I reckon this video is just scratching the surface of what he and Karma can do.
you look like "bassnectar." Perhaps you should figure out how you could be his replacement....cuz then all his little custi's that worship him will be forced to listen to actual music...and structured "actual" music at that...
Great demonstration-Makes everyone think they could get down like that if they bought it.
I still cannot understand what Karma is about... May I ask, when tweaking all those parameters, is the effect predictable? Like, is it possible to grab a section of this piece, and ask him to make something quite similar again, with this patch?
I own a Korg Triton pro-x, Yamaha Motif 6, & Roland XV-5080. Personally I feel Yamaha has better "synthy" type sounds, Roland has the best acoustic sounds (best grand pianos & guitars), and Korg, while not individually better sounding in Yamaha & Roland's strengths, kind of has a better over all blend then both. Like it's better at synthy then Roland & better at acoustic then Yamaha. Of course this is just my personal opinion. It my be helpful to some, or completely worthless to others.
so hard work to make poeple get a korg oasys and the korg corporation stop and produce it this i dont understand musch of its sad for stephen kay. but so its the cruel business world. hope korg produce korg oasys again later. its a amazing keyboard.
this... does NOT do the oasys justice. where do they find these midi-file sounding demo guys!?!?!?! gahhhh they should really employ me for these things
@rlouve He's Stephen Kay the developer of Karma (hence the name "KAY" Algorithmic Realtime Music Architecture) do you think you can be better than the creator himself?
This Oasys is out of production now so you can Ebay it and get it for half price. I bought two. 76 and 88 keys. My fav keyboard now. You can also get KARMA soon on the Open Labs products. Also the Korg M3 has KARMA and most of the Oasys cool stuff is in it but at a fraction of the price.
I didnt know it wasnt being produced anymore. I did find out they werent making it in a 61 key and the other 71-88 key ones were around 7000 dollars.if memory serves me correct they had one in buffalo,ny at a guitar center.
They got one in San Francisco's Guitar Center...The bigger the keyboard the more it costs, the one thats in San Francisco is like 10 Thousand, but its a 71 key...Thats nuts...but honestly if I had it I would buy it..
Part of what's so amazing about the oasys though is that even if you're not that good you can still do things that sound amazing. Part of what's not so amazing is that it costs $8500
in this video mr stephen kay just show the surface of what korg oasys is compatible to do, this keyboard is so deep that it takes years to understand the whole possibilities this keyboard has. so good luck all of you who get one, you will never have a one our of boring time ever. and combine this with omnisphere you cant go from your keyboard for long he he. its a beast. learn the karma system and you have ours of fun.
I change my earlier opinion, about this Keyboard, and the inventor of it, THis thing totally rocks, I got to see a live demo of it and it is totally INSANE!!! Still Stephen Kay needs to make a better demo, to showcase this things true potenial.
Real demo should be providing the flac in 24-bit to listen not ultra low quality of YT.

I didnt know it wasnt being produced anymore. I did find out they werent making it in a 61 key and the other 71-88 key ones were around 7000 dollars.if memory serves me correct they had one in buffalo,ny at a guitar center.

They got one in San Francisco's Guitar Center...The bigger the keyboard the more it costs, the one thats in San Francisco is like 10 Thousand, but its a 71 key...Thats nuts...but honestly if I had it I would buy it..

ya i saw the list price of the 88 key to be 8200. I'm sure it's very much worth it though. The platform is limitless.

Part of what's so amazing about the oasys though is that even if you're not that good you can still do things that sound amazing. Part of what's not so amazing is that it costs $8500

Go search Jordan Rudess Korg Oasys. He does a much better demo of this instrument and why being at $8500, it is cheap.

in this video mr stephen kay just show the surface of what korg oasys is compatible to do, this keyboard is so deep that it takes years to understand the whole possibilities this keyboard has. so good luck all of you who get one, you will never have a one our of boring time ever. and combine this with omnisphere you cant go from your keyboard for long he he. its a beast. learn the karma system and you have ours of fun.

I change my earlier opinion, about this Keyboard, and the inventor of it, THis thing totally rocks, I got to see a live demo of it and it is totally INSANE!!! Still Stephen Kay needs to make a better demo, to showcase this things true potenial.
