  • Mickela, I truly have no idea why your videos don't have more views! You're the best Youtuber I've seen and that means better than the alleged "King of Youtube" RWJ! You're awesome!

  • @TheDrizztdourden92 Thanks much. Tell your friends about me. And ask them to pass it on. Maybe that will help.

  • Incredibly well thought out. Thanks for such a clear thesis!

  • also very nice to see you back, I am amazed you do content which never gets a thumb down, i find this utterly amazing

  • i liked this very much, apple's been very clever making sure everyone swims in a pool full of apples, big problem is once someone pees in the pool and some notice not long before everyone gets out

i think someone has just had a pee in the pool

every one is tired of apples choked back dumbed down releases and no choice stores, game over apple

the next apple breakthrough will be the 'i failed'

  • Shares in Amazon it is then :)

  • These videos are extremely helpful, thank you

  • Good stuff: So refreshing to listen to someone who is not a teenager on the interwebs. Even more someone who actually offers content rather than kitty videos. I have subscribed and am looking forward to the next part - something I do rarely for youtube videos.

    Keep it up.

  • The iTunes software is slow and everything but painless...

  • That was very interesting

  • I have to point out at this point that Mikeleh doesn't fit with most of my subs... Don't look at me like that... You're intelligent for starters! Granted I do have a foray into physics or two on my subs list, but for the most part I come to Youtube for unadulterated stupidity I can laugh at... You're intoxicating and intelligent at the same time. My mind is full of f... un.

  • @marknormansavoy Thanks so much.

  • @PumpkinPena Part one is called "What's all this Cloud Talk."

  • Hey Mickeleh, I cannot wait for the next video. Being in the tech biz, I find it difficult to describe the cloud, even to people who should already know about it.

I'm one of those iTunes users that buys the MP3s from Amazon because of the DRM issues I've had with iTunes.

  • i always buy my music on Amazon....itunes takes a while to load on my computer, and Amazon is cheaper...plus i can get it right from my phone

  • i love these videos! I wish you could teach business at my school

  • This is very interesting. Even though I'm from the UK it won't too long before this comes our way. Thanks for the heads up!

  • These explanations are really interesting! I guess the business world can be interesting after all :-P

  • I'm proud to be an Apple resistor, even though they are my favourite fruit.

  • These are my favorite videos you've done yet!

  • Hey Mickeleh

I would like to know how Music Beta (by Google) is fitting into this picture, if Google is offering free Cloud service, why would I pay amazon to do so?

I understand buying the music since its sometimes cheaper then iTunes but why pay for the hosting service?

  • @kdizzy07 There are detailed comparisons of Amazon's Cloud Drive and Google's Music Beta online at PC magazine. Do a search on "Google Music Beta PCMag"

  • Spotify is the most dominant music service here in Europe. And it have both a iPhone and Android client.

  • @lejonicom I'm going to talk about Spotify in part 3.

  • It has been nice to have you "back."

I really appreciate your insight regarding this very interesting topic.

  • More videos like this please: nerdy and informative! : )

  • Android with have 52% market share of the mobile phone market by 2015 compared to Apples mere 10% If Amazon ties in with Google Apple will be left in the dust

  • @mrbizzy Whose projections are those? BTW, Apple earnings announced today: In the quarter just ended, Apple sold 20.34M iPhones, up 142% over same quarter last year. Left in the gold dust, maybe?

  • @mickeleh Gartner dot com leading IT research and advisory company, amongst others. Android is set to have nearly 50% of the smartphone market by 2012. Apple and Android are likely to share the tablet market for time to come but as Android dominates the smartphone market, consumers are likely to sway towards familiarity with Android tablets. Apple was innovative but will ultimately lose in the smartphone market due to the Open Handset Alliance. I have an IPhone myself but android will dominate

  • @mrbizzy thanks.

  • By the way great video !!!

  • Every extra strep leaves someone behind...wow so true!!!

  • Very interesting and awesome explanation, Mickeleh! I have to admit that everything you said does make sense. Well done, my friend!Excellent explanation and I can't wait for the next video about all of this! You're absolutely right to ask who is benefiting at Amazon's expense. Good question! Can't wait to see/hear the answer!

  • I've been using an Amazon cloud drive from Canada for a few months now, seems to be available to me.

  • What was the red flash at around 0:52? I can't pinpoint it exactly. Great vid btw. :D Super interesting.

  • @Tomophonics the screen literally just flashes red and gives a purplish tone to his skin, nothing else @ 0:52

  • Apple resistor here ;b Laughed a bit when you said that people with android would want to find a gap to get iTunes ;)

  • Your videos are very thoughtful, Mickeleh.

  • you are a beautiful man. <3

  • Consistent videos? I'm in heaven.

  • Great video. Can't wait for more. Please continue the technology marketing angle.

  • Well in regards to DRM, apple hasn't had DRM since 2009. And Steve Jobs openly opposes the use of DRM.

  • @DrAwkwardTurtle Thanks. *annotates*

  • @DrAwkwardTurtle " Steve Jobs openly opposes the use of DRM." ... Does not apply to movies.

  • Foobar2000 > Itunes

  • I could really get used to these frequent videos.

  • I love these informative videos of yours. I hadn't really even considered anyone would or even could take Apple's position at the top, but the more I think about it the more I wonder if Apple are ready to crash. Their top entrepreneurs are set to exit stage left, and their strategy of monopolizing their own tech to starve the other players might be set to backfire with Android.

This whole shebang is absolutely fascinating. More please!

  • i used to buy my music from itunes only foreign music (mostly german) is often hard to find some albums itunes didnt have and amazon did so i went to amazon if both stores have the album i usually buy it from amazon now mostly due to the quality of file and no DRM witch itunes has gotten better with but still has it

  • Oh, Amazon, Apple and Google... why can't you all just be friends?

  • @BOomeek I take it you have never seen Highlander?

  • 2:59 All the English peeps are hurt, Mickeleh.

  • 7^3

  • It's very interesting, this oligopol that is developing in the internet based industry. A bit scary, but hella interesting. I think the biggest questionmark is whether Apple's strategy, with the stubborn reluctancy to let in any third party player on their platforms, will be successful in the long run.

  • Please Explain: Amazon & Google vs Apple, or do you mean, "Google+" Their new service?

    <------A^^le Resister(Long Live Microsoft!!!! and PC's...)

  • @ThePoisonjohnny Google is the developer of the Android operating system for mobile phones and tablets. So, if I'm right and Amazon is banking on Android, then they're banking on Google. Not only that, but there's a rumor that Amazon will be release their own tablet this fall, probably built on Android.

  • Damn, Amazon is a darn sight cheaper than iTunes. Thanks for letting me know

  • I love you, it's all starting to come together in my furry purple mind. mwah, cheeky x

  • I love class with Mickeleh.

  • Mickeleh, I have always said the biggest problem with the iPhone (which I love mine) is iTunes. I buy all my music from Amazon. Thanks for the lesson, can't wait for the next.

  • these are great! keep them coming!

  • Anyone else seeing the Chinese flag flashing by? Any tinfoil hats here? Anyone? Dont be shy...

  • I like how you turned around your two fingers to make something more English friendly.

  • Thanks for the brilliant video as always. It's always awesome to learn something new with you :)

  • I'm an apple resister. I don't buy music online though, I like physical copies. For the actually program itself, itunes is lacking compared to winamp but, like everything apple, and as you said, it's simpler.

  • @NMRA Winamp is the absolute best! iTunes is so poorly developed and can't do half as much as winamp. I wish I could sync my iPhone with Winamp.

  • Im an Apple resister and proud :D

  • Zeus might like this battle...just sayin'

  • This is a great series and you're a great teacher. I keep hearing speculation that Apple's patent win over HTC means the death of Android. Doesn't a patent win mean you just have to pay for the right to use the patent, not shut down completely. I guess if it because cost prohibitive that could hurt it.

  • @billtvmacon Not my field, but... If you hold a patent to some process, I don't think there's anything in the law that would compel you to license it. Licensing patents so you earn money from your competitor's success is a popular strategy. (I read that, even though Google licenses Android for free, handset manufacturers are paying patent royalties to Microsoft.) And usually that's how these things end. But I think Apple also has the right to just say no.

  • @mickeleh what sort of patents would a handset manufacturer have to pay microsoft, surely its merely software.

  • @adyrulesthe666 Smart phones wouldn't be so smart if they didn't have software. Unless you're a manufacturer who writes your own software (like Apple and Nokia) you have to license the software from someone else. Google licenses Android software at no charge. But Microsoft claims that Android uses some patented Microsoft technology.

  • @mickeleh hummm, after some research i will have to agree with you for the moment

  • @adyrulesthe666 It's true, plus, Microsoft actually makes more money from people paying them because of Android patent infringements than they make from Windows Phone 7.

  • @TheRabbit245 thats not exactly difficult, windows phones are useless

  • @billtvmacon I have a better answer now: What I didn't know back then was that there's a class of patent called F/RAND or FRAND, which stands for Fair, Reasonable, And Non-Discriminatory terms. When a company contributes a patent to a standards organization to set some industry standard, that kind of patent must be licensed.

  • I was only 75% okay with you saying "pwns", mickeleh :P

  • @Dmcdouga7 But it's a great word. And nothing else quite has its flavor. Anyway, as long as I have your majority....

  • Also, great video Michael. I'm glad you've been vlogging more regularly. -UnknownTrombone

  • Why the red flash at 0:54 ?

  • @plainwhitepaperful because I decided that removing it wasn't worth the time. I'm okay with leaving a few mistakes in my videos cause I can have conversations about them.

  • @mickeleh kind of adds a bit of interesting 'HEY! wake up and watch me!' thing XD. Great vid Mickeleh. Can't wait for next week

  • @Brendanofthecult Actually... I recorded that last week... but got bogged down in the pos-processing. So when I say "next week" I actually mean "this week" Time travel is so confusing.

  • @mickeleh oh my, that is quite confusing isn't it? Oh well, that means less waiting time :D

  • Please dont say PC when you think on Windows. Apple computers are PCs too.

  • @sleeper2008 Technically, you're right. But it's a shorthand that most people understand.

  • until next time your mickeleh? who are you going to be after next time?

  • @raplena14 You haven't seen my Gaga video?

  • What is that red thing that appears for a moment on 0:53 ?

  • Your voice is lovely to listen to :D

  • 3:01 on behalf of Britain I thank you xD

  • One thing that pisses me off about Amazon is that they're trying to get a referendum to be exempt from sales tax in CA. Sounds like a free lunch, but when a tax is eliminated one place, it has be made up for somewhere else or services get cut even more. It's just trying to get a marketing advantage at the expense of Cali based companies. Dishonest. I'm buying from other companies.

  • "I'm a marketer... we just make stuff up!" lol truer words have never been spoken

  • @Amberspaz55 Nah, I just made that up.

  • I am curious what is going to happen when everything settles down..

  • 'This will get nerdy' I was like YEAH!

  • As good as always n,n

  • This is great. I am studying online media, and this was really insightful and amusing. You should do more analysis like this, in fact, I might look through your playlist for just that.

  • You have an extremely well sense for what corporations are doing behind the scenes. Its incredible.

  • @Battleschnodder good sense. Wow, Im awful at this language.

  • Mmmmm, the plot thickens!

  • Very informative, thanks for making the video! Love it.

  • 0 likes and 0 dislikes the future of the video is in my hands. i chose *drum roll* like!
