the next apple breakthrough will be the 'i failed'
Good stuff: So refreshing to listen to someone who is not a teenager on the interwebs. Even more someone who actually offers content rather than kitty videos. I have subscribed and am looking forward to the next part - something I do rarely for youtube videos.
I have to point out at this point that Mikeleh doesn't fit with most of my subs... Don't look at me like that... You're intelligent for starters! Hey Mickeleh, I cannot wait for the next video. Being in the tech biz, I find it difficult to describe the cloud, even to people who should already know about it.
I'm one of those iTunes users that buys the MP3s from Amazon because of the DRM issues I've had with iTunes.
I would like to know how Music Beta (by Google) is fitting into this picture, if Google is offering free Cloud service, why would I pay amazon to do so?
I understand buying the music since its sometimes cheaper than iTunes but why pay for the hosting service?

@kdizzy07 There are detailed comparisons of Amazon's Cloud Drive and Google's Music Beta online at PC magazine. Do a search on "Google Music Beta PCMag"
Android with have 52% market share of the mobile phone market by 2015 compared to Apples mere 10% If Amazon ties in with Google Apple will be left in the dust
@mrbizzy Whose projections are those? BTW, Apple earnings announced today: In the quarter just ended, Apple sold 20.34M iPhones, up 142% over same quarter last year. Left in the gold dust, maybe?
@mickeleh Gartner dot com leading IT research and advisory company, amongst others. Android is set to have nearly 50% of the smartphone market by 2012. Apple and Android are likely to share the tablet market for time to come but as Android dominates the smartphone market, consumers are likely to sway towards familiarity with Android tablets. Apple was innovative but will ultimately lose in the smartphone market due to the Open Handset Alliance. I have an IPhone myself but android will dominate
Very interesting and awesome explanation, Mickeleh! I have to admit that everything you said does make sense. Well done, my friend!Excellent explanation and I can't wait for the next video about all of this! You're absolutely right to ask who is benefiting at Amazon's expense. Good question! Can't wait to see/hear the answer!
I love these informative videos of yours. I hadn't really even considered anyone would or even could take Apple's position at the top, but the more I think about it the more I wonder if Apple are ready to crash. Their top entrepreneurs are set to exit stage left, and their strategy of monopolizing their own tech to starve the other players might be set to backfire with Android.
This whole shebang is absolutely fascinating. More please!
i used to buy my music from itunes only foreign music (mostly german) is often hard to find some albums itunes didnt have and amazon did so i went to amazon if both stores have the album i usually buy it from amazon now mostly due to the quality of file and no DRM witch itunes has gotten better with but still has it
It's very interesting, this oligopol that is developing in the internet based industry. A bit scary, but hella interesting. I think the biggest questionmark is whether Apple's strategy, with the stubborn reluctancy to let in any third party player on their platforms, will be successful in the long run.
@ThePoisonjohnny Google is the developer of the Android operating system for mobile phones and tablets. So, if I'm right and Amazon is banking on Android, then they're banking on Google. Not only that, but there's a rumor that Amazon will be release their own tablet this fall, probably built on Android.
Mickeleh, I have always said the biggest problem with the iPhone (which I love mine) is iTunes. I buy all my music from Amazon. Thanks for the lesson, can't wait for the next.
I'm an apple resister. I don't buy music online though, I like physical copies. For the actually program itself, itunes is lacking compared to winamp but, like everything apple, and as you said, it's simpler.
This is a great series and you're a great teacher. I keep hearing speculation that Apple's patent win over HTC means the death of Android. Doesn't a patent win mean you just have to pay for the right to use the patent, not shut down completely. I guess if it because cost prohibitive that could hurt it.
@billtvmacon Not my field, but... If you hold a patent to some process, I don't think there's anything in the law that would compel you to license it. Licensing patents so you earn money from your competitor's success is a popular strategy. (I read that, even though Google licenses Android for free, handset manufacturers are paying patent royalties to Microsoft.) And usually that's how these things end. But I think Apple also has the right to just say no.
@adyrulesthe666 Smart phones wouldn't be so smart if they didn't have software. Unless you're a manufacturer who writes your own software (like Apple and Nokia) you have to license the software from someone else. Google licenses Android software at no charge. But Microsoft claims that Android uses some patented Microsoft technology.
@adyrulesthe666 It's true, plus, Microsoft actually makes more money from people paying them because of Android patent infringements than they make from Windows Phone 7.
@billtvmacon I have a better answer now: What I didn't know back then was that there's a class of patent called F/RAND or FRAND, which stands for Fair, Reasonable, And Non-Discriminatory terms. When a company contributes a patent to a standards organization to set some industry standard, that kind of patent must be licensed.
@plainwhitepaperful because I decided that removing it wasn't worth the time. I'm okay with leaving a few mistakes in my videos cause I can have conversations about them.
@Brendanofthecult Actually... I recorded that last week... but got bogged down in the pos-processing. So when I say "next week" I actually mean "this week" Time travel is so confusing.
One thing that pisses me off about Amazon is that they're trying to get a referendum to be exempt from sales tax in CA. Sounds like a free lunch, but when a tax is eliminated one place, it has be made up for somewhere else or services get cut even more. It's just trying to get a marketing advantage at the expense of Cali based companies. Dishonest. I'm buying from other companies.
This is great. I am studying online media, and this was really insightful and amusing. You should do more analysis like this, in fact, I might look through your playlist for just that.
