Ready4pullback makes a good point. Monica Conyers is(was) a great representative. A rep's job is to represent it's base. She did this wonderfully. Her base is filled with people who believe they should get something for nothing, that the laws should be tailored to suit their needs, believe that cheating, lying and stealing are acceptable.

Well, since we cannot elect officials based upon each and every personal opinion of every voter, she is elected by a majority of those that she represents. Therefore a sweeping statement is more than rational. Those people that do not belong in the box are obviously not being represented by ANYONE in Detroit politics. There is no check to Detroit's balance- This is proven by the "sweeping" election poll statistics that show that these officials were elected in a landslide. Yeah- those people.

I DO know that statistically a Detroit resident is 400% more likely to be involved in a violent crime, 700% more likely to be robbed, and 250% more likely to have their car stolen than a Dearborn resident (bordered by Detroit on 3 sides) and crime rates drop drastically concurrent to further proximity to Detroit. Thats enough evidence for me to pretty much assume that as a whole, Detroit is BAD. Those "good" people aren't going to make me or my family feel safe. This isnt a race issue.

As of 2007, these statistics were the highest crime rate in the united states. It is true that Monica Conyers represents the people of Detroit- Good and Bad. And it just so happens that she has more in common with the bad, and the bad are the majority- thats all.
