They made a mistake with Billy Dee Williams. He played Jim Frazier in 1966 along with Cicely Tyson who played his Wife Martha. Also, James Earl Jones replaced him as did Ruby Dee replacing Cicely. Here's another fun yet quirky fact. Billy Dee and James worked together in a Movie called "The Bingo Long Travelling All Stars And Motorcycle Kings" about a Negro Baseball League. Also alot of African American Actors did well for themselves as well. Sharon Leal, Taye Diggs, and Nia Long.

I'm pretty much sick of hearing all about Otalia when it comes to Guiding Light. Yes, it was a beautiful story and a real bright spot in the last year of the show, but Otalia was not the be-all, end-all of Guiding Light. It wasn't even Crystal Chappelle's greatest story on the show. I for one am glad that the history of the show was acknowledged and not just the recent past.

Wow, the life of your lovely Mom will be always joined to this outstanding long TV series.

I adore the placidity, naturality and sweetness she shows in front of the cameras, and made me smile when she says she has not another 72 years to spare...Blessed her.

Just want to mention... REALLY HAPPY that Josh and Reva reunited but did I miss something? What happened to Jeffrey and Edmond?There was a gun...a fight...and a blown kiss from Edmond...and then, well, that's it! Is it just me or is that weird?

It was the writing Ellen that drove the fans away..you re-wrote History and that does not fly with fans

I guess they felt that since Chris Goutman a former Soap Opera Actor who now worked on ATWT could do it, they could too. Ellen Wheeler meant well but she should have talked to The Heavyweights, The Bell Family, Paul Rauch, and even her former Boss Agnes Nixon.

gosh i didnt realized how little money they had to make this show work i have much respect for that for me the new production model works good and the cameras too its more realistic than other soaps and the outside scenes are great too its always good to try new things and be creativ in a way love GL

Well now that the show is going off they should at least give bloopers or at least some behind the scenes.

Jeffrey/Reva fans may be vocal, but they're the vocal minority... It's *always* been about Josh & Reva. And they'd be damn fools not to give the viewers one final payoff. Thanks for posting this piece, BTW!

Not only did they completely censor out Otalia, but honestly...their 'taboo' storylines? They don't think a same-sex relationship fits in there?

I know what you mean thegirlinthebigbox, they didn't really acknowledge that so many African American Actors got their start on this show. Billy Dee Williams, Cicely Tyson, Ruby Dee, James Earl Jones, Jesse L. Martin, Taye Diggs, Nia Long, Jennifer Holliday (The "Original "Dreamgirl), Giancarlo Esposito, Sharon Leal, and Angela Basset. Also, it's the only Soap in which three of it's Actors all performed in "Dreamgirls". Now how many Soap Operas have created as many "Stars" as this show.

Sorry for being so negative, but this is a sorry excuse for canceling the show.

Passing cowardice and bad capitalism off as a "Well, the ratings dropped cause women went to work"documentary approach.That was in the 80ies.Someone didn't do his/her research.Would have loved to know if the old Lady was ok with Otay.

Cause CBS certainly isn't.Wowza.

The "old lady" as you so delicately put it (you jerk!) was/is fine with Otay as she has been OK with so many changes that have occurred over the span of her 89 years. That's what keeps her young, beautiful, hip and positively delightful to anyone who has spent over a minute with her. Can you say the same? The "Old Lady" is my mother so watch your mouth!!

I was sincerely interested if your mother was ok with this or not because she has been such a long time fan, and it seems to be those, that CBS is so keen about "protecting" from same sex storylines.

You are forgiven! I am sorry that I got so angry but...she's my Mom and I protect her as she has protected and loved me all my life. My mother gets more cool as she gets older. She felt uncomfortable at times with the explicit sex scenes but it was the heteros that made her skin crawl. She loved the same sex storyline because it was a beautiful expression of love between two people. If I know my Mom, and I do, she didn't even notice or care that it was two women. That's what makes her special!

Of course OTHERS can have love scenes even here they show it...and Otalia can't even kiss....OMG writers go back to acting i bet you ware better there.You write a story and screw it up when it is successful. The art of screwing up everything.
