I totally agree with moineau15 and we don't misunderstand anything ravenfn. This stupid interviewer, whoever he is, calls Georgians young nation. It's outrageous. Actually no surprise, he's American. Only thing Americans think about is how to SAVE MONEY on car insurance.
The thing is that concept of the word "nation" is diffrent between Eastern Europeans and the West. Let's get a right book (American) and identify definitions of "nation", "state" and "nation-state." I studied political science and there was always misunderstanding between American and Eastern European students. Then we realized that Eastern Europeans do not mean the same as Americans:-)
"...young nation of Georgia" - haha! - Georgian nation and Georgian nationality is one of the oldest in the world. It is much older than the American nationality (if such thing exists at all) and many European nationalities. We are an ancient country and our language is written in a unique alphabet and belongs to its own linguistic supergroup, which means it is not a derivative of any other language in the world. Nation-building? Well, yes, after the Communism we have to re-build everything.
Georgian people declared independence (once again) on May 26, 1918 - and the short-lived Republic existed for 3 years until it was occupied by the Bolsheviks in 1921.
yep, he means that we attained independence in 1991. Everything has to start over like a newborn child:-). Let's don't get mad. The West does not care about your history and people. It is time to wake up.
pgthinker007: If you have such a hateful attitude like you, then no one will care about you. Why do you have such hate for Georgia? Unlike you, most of the other people that have posted here have been nice.
You misunderstand the whole point of this interview. Mr. Back is pointing out that your leader is more of a believer in free market economics than most of the elected officials in the USA.
It makes me want to move to Georgia as great things will continue to happen to your country with a government that "knows it's place."
Hillary Clinton and Obama are not believers in the free market system. They are pure socialists.
There is no need for offensive remarks. Both of you are right!
Georgia is young as a 'state' but is ancient as a nation. That is why Saakashvili is a great man because he is building Georgia as a state.
The United States, as a republic, is older than a lot of modern countries of Europe (Germany, Italy, France, Poland, etc.). So, there is no need to offend our American friends either.
BTW, Glen definitely needs to learn how to pronounce Saakashvili. :)
I allowed 213HERERRA's comment. I am unfamiliar with the language if it offensive send me a PM with translation and elaboration in English and I will consider deleting it otherwise I will give it the benefit of the doubt.
:)Don't worry! It says something like 'Misha is the man'. Saakashvili is known by his nickname 'Misha' which is short for Mikheil (Michael) in Georgian.
I was surprised that he can speak English
