  • HOW can i relax watching this!?

  • where can you buy this dvd from ?????????????

  • Dave Elitch brings the Shalom Chops!

Drumming brings all together ... Jews, Christians, Muslims, Buddhists, Taoists, agnostics, atheists and everyone else. We're all a big family, and drumming is our common ancestry.

  • name of the DVD?

  • Where is this shed?!?!? lmao jk

  • I have begun to really doubt the so called best drummers of all time, these guys kick their asses

  • @snoogle100 naw man! their chops in many ways if you understand it, can be all be about broken between two with the hands, one with the foot, vice versa, doubles with the hands and feet, triplets, and sixteenths. if you listen and close your eyes, about the only difference you can detect is if one is faster than the other. their good, don't get me wrong. real musicians evolve and their style gets better. some of these guys style and approach are still the same since you wrote this 9 months ago.

  • 0:15 to 0:20 LOL

  • A lot of speed... musicality ??

  • What?? A white guy on Shed Sessions? Nah, can't be.

  • @spacitydrummer4JC white rules

  • Are rim shots used a lot with gospel music?

  • @DavidChoiDrumz yes sir, its all we use lol

  • @DavidChoiDrumz

When it comes to rim shots, its about preference,

it has more attack so a lot of drummers like to use it

  • He flopped!!! His solo was sometimes ahead of the beat and sometimes behind and he was way out of time when he came back in.

He needs to spend more time with a metronome and less time practicing unmusical licks.

All I see on gospelchops is a bunch of guys that have speed.

    Where's the musicality?

  • @AdamOuissellat shut up

  • He flopped!!! His solo was sometimes ahead of the beat and sometimes behind and he was way out of time when he came back in.

He needs to spend more time with a metronome and less time practicing unmusical licks.

All I see on gospelchops is a bunch of guys that have speed.

  • yes

  • or lots of practice

  • 2:37 = pure artistry.

if you blinked, you missed it!

  • how do i get my copy.. what store would i go to??

  • they don't sell them in stores u gotta order it online.

  • Your comment read:

"I know the bible says that as musicians we are to play skillfully before the Lord, but I don't think that we should draw attention to ourselves and our individual skills. Our job is to lead people in worship unto to God not unto the crazy lick I just played."

That my friend is questioning motives, sorry to say, lol.

  • i think whatever sweet lick a drummer plays is 1st glorifying God b4 himself.just tot to correct u there

  • I think you're reading the comment I quoted by the other guy, but I disagree with your statement to the degree of the motive each drummer consciously or implicitly intends.

For those who don't believe in God the motive would therefore be that of the musician's own device and not for God.

The motive, if for God, must be first born in and of those glorifying him "aptly so" otherwise it is of human implication only.

I know for me, it's all for God. I do respect your opinion in any regard.

    Peace.

  • Lil' Nick snare eq'd was sounding dope.

  • Ok, so I completely respect the skills of these gentlemen. These guys have amazing ability! Just Awesome!!!

    However,

I lived and played in Memphis, TN. for 7 years

and was a familiar face at MDS and was fortunate enough to learn from some amazing WORKING musicians. I now live in Joplin, MO. were I teach and play locally. I am genuinely curious... do these guys get many calls outside their genre. I know that if I played like that in the studio, club, or casual I would never get called back.

  • Well to be honest with you, these cats play for some hot gospel artists, and few of them do play for other artists outside of gospel. Some of them dont care to play for anyone else because they just want to play for God. Just because this vid is highlighting licks doesnt mean that they cant play basic pocket.

  • I am a christian as well and I play for an audience of "One" and several local churches. I find the drumming just a little distracting. I know the bible says that as musicians we are to play skillfully before the Lord, but I don't think that we should draw attention to ourselves and our individual skills. Our job is to lead people in worship unto to God not unto the crazy lick I just played.

    Once again, Amazing drumming!!!

  • your over-anylizing it man, these guys skills are meant to be show-cased, and i gaurantee that based on the gig there playing, they wouldnt be going nuts like that. In situations like clinics (or if there headlining a show) of course there gunna take up the whole song, but look at the Late-Great Buddy Rich. He produced AMAZING yet subtle background drumming, and then ripped it apart during solos because thats what people came to see.

  • Leading people has many faces brother. I am indeed moved by these skillful players, so please understand that as you yourself may be moved by one or few methods, others are moved in their own way.

"Self" or "self perception" has no place in God's over-all scheme.

We all assume through our own faculties yet God himself is all faculty ever devised, hence the fact that not only do each of us possess the means, but the ends-means as well, for God's means are indeed far reaching in their nature.

  • I never said I was not moved by the amazing ability of these players, nor did I question their motives for playing the way they do. I agree that many people are moved in different ways. In the same idea many people are driven from God by the same ways that turn others to God. Paul wrote that tongues are not for public use unless an interpretation is presented, otherwise we sound as a clanging cymbal or gong and accomplish the opposite of our commission. Lead the people, don't drive them away.

  • It seemed as though you had injected your own personal philosophy in the message I had commented on. The only thing accomplished by man-made means is man-made ends & a singular interpretation of the word.

I see nothing wrong with questioning a person's motives if we are aware that the query itself comes from man-made perspective.

Some query I believe should be left to inner-device, of course this is just my own man-made perspective. Nice response however. Sorry if I misunderstood it.

    Peace...

  • Agree to disagree. :) Peace be unto you as well. Would love to debate you in the future. You seem to be a worthy, although wordy, opponent.

    Cheers

  • LOL@wordy. If you check back you'll see you've used as many, if not more words than myself, but alas we all have our setbacks, the lesser of which we perceive to be our own, lol.

Have a good holiday season and be safe.

    Peace...

  • are guys rich or what

  • hello my name is marti and im 15 but hopefully ill be on gospel chops next year......if u think u are ready to be on gospel chops please type agree

  • i think i could be on gospel chops. i have gotten much better and my mind and knowledge in playing has definitely evolved within just a few years

  • Gospel chops It's very Good!!!!

    God bless us all.

  • the KID at :35 is nick smith, he's endorsed by sabian and promark and probably some other companies he was 14 or 15 on this dvd

  • hes ice cold

  • lol as long as you can play something better than somebody else, technique is irrelevant. after all, when these techniques we learn were "created" im sure people were telling them they were wrong, except they were owning everyones ass. so it doesnt matter, as long as you can do it sufficiently

  • Love the snare sound. Now thats how i want mine 2 sound

  • that guy on 0:16-0:20, haha awesome!

  • smoothe, way to twirl, 2:38

  • WOW!

    fucking awesome!

  • wats the white guys name ??

  • thats ronald bruner jr

  • Meu faria o máximo pra partcpar de um dvd desse, só ta os melhores...

  • who is the guy at 00:17? hes sick. i love when he kills his hi hat with his foot.

  • ronald bruner jr

  • thanks man

  • oh my god

  • who is the dude who playin the drums on the beat

  • amazing stuff!!! Love watching this. To play this kinda of style is the best...cause its all different styles(rock, funk, pop, regae, jazz)in one technique kinda thing. But I wouldn't call it gospel cause the gospel was ALWAYZ meant to be preached,Never to be played..so unless you read in the bible that the gospel was played or otherwise, try not to characterize this style as "gospel"

  • This is gonna seem weird, but can not go to church and still play gospel music?

  • yes...

  • These are absolutely amazing, they are fast, but they have no technique in whick they do fast stuff, but hafe no technique in doing it. Virgil Donati, Thomas lang, Dennis Chambers, carter Beauford, Vinnie Colaiuta are fast and they don't tire them selves because they have way more technique than these "drummers"

  • what techniques are they lacking?

i see them using the moeller, pedal slide and a ton of other techniques that make playing less tiresome

  • What technique. The slide technique is so easy to use. Any person starting drums can do that. The moeller is definetly not being used. It's more like lifting up their arms and making accents. TIRESOME. They make constipated faces to make them them look stupid because of doing tiresome stuff. I would like to see them play in traditional grip. Let's see how fast they are like that.

  • go watch some buddy rich then and fuck off.

I don't actually have any problems with buddy rich, but i just hate it when you get these drummers who say that anything different from what buddy rich does is wrong. but i guess it's better then a travis barker fan

  • It really doesn't matter what grip you play with. I seem to remember a man by the name of Billy Cobham, who is one of the best drummers to have ever lived, and I rarely see him use traditional grip. Any of these drummers you see give lessons will say, "This is easy stuff. It's not as complicated as you might think." So it's not like they're trying to show you that they're the best drummers ever. It's just jamming out.

  • the moeller technique does not slow you down. That means your saying Jojo mayer, Dave Weckl, and Vinnie Colaiuta slow. Trust me moeller didn't invent the technique that way. I bet you they better understanding of drums than you do. What kind of an unprofessional bullshit school told you the music that. They may feel that way, but honestly that is a little much.

  • your a twat mate. I hate trad grip cos it dosnt feel natural to me. I find it easyer to play matched. WHATS THE POINT OF MAKEING IT HARDER FOR MYSELF. And if that makes me a shit drummer (which I am) then at least I can say that I have a life instead of sitting at my computer holding my cock with traditional grip!!!!!

  • mind you..... I see your a girl so i guess you hold your dildo traditional grip!

  • hahahahahahahahahahaha that one is good hahahahahahaha

  • traditional grip shows who da real drummers is

  • You must be a REAL drummer then. And you talk REAL shit aswell!!!!!!

  • Where are your videos at. Can you even play drums. Its better to be suspected of bieng ignorant than to open your mouth and remove all doubts.

  • Do you have the DVD?

  • WTF dreamgrl505.....some of these drummers are PROS and good friends of Beauford,Donati,Lang and of course Mr.Chambers

oh yeah check out Ronald Bruner Jr with Stanley Clarke heck check out Bruner's whole family....

  • my jaw was on the floor watching this i wish i started playing gospel from day 1. i can't get enough these guys are absolutely untouchable. wow

  • any other sites where i can get for cheaper? lol

  • see the thing between gospel drummers and rock drummers is that rock drummers pretty much play the same kinda beats and patterns, gospel drummers pretty much are everywere is the beat wich makes them verry unique and tastefull, and alot of fun to watch.lol

but outside of shed sessions the do keep simple patterns......sometimes. lol

  • Gospel Drummers are pretty much the best

  • theyre sure as hell up there

  • These guys propably like to do it as quick as possible.

  • Iv been playning drums since I was a kid and I love it but its not the drums that do it for me hear. ITS THE BASS PLAYER!!!!!

  • talent, talent, all this people is amazing but i don't understand what is exactly the "gospel chops" .... a small explication please .... ^^ thanks

  • It's a website/group of musicians like guitar players, keyboardists, bass players, and especially drummers who are all followers of Christ. Such as myself.

  • thanks

  • No problem

  • well they also primarily play gospel music too.

  • Yeah...

  • What is that snare and what head he using? anyone know? lol

  • which one haha?

  • Super talented people

  • dude on drums is a beat is he a rock drummer

  • He plays everything... all kinds of music.

  • Yall Can't Really Hear Him, But Dude on Keys iz a Beast!!!!! He Iz Neo Soul 2 tha fullest.... His Chords and Placements Are Sick!!!

  • tru tht i saw another clip with him in it and he was

  • The guy at 00:38 rocks my socks!!! Lol... I want this dvd so bad now!

  • got this dvd the other day from America after being stung by british mail.. bastards! anyway best performance is Nikki Glaspie! she can groove although Ronal Bruner jr is pretty sick!

  • his drumming is tight!! NO DOUBT!!! But did yall catch the bass chords at 2:32? They were off the chain!!!

  • i think the one a 1:13 was better just my opinion

  • agreed dreamtheaternewyork

  • what kind of bass is that at 1:13 does anyone know?

  • MTD

  • does that look like a 13 inch snare or a 14?

  • I'm getting into it.. another genre I nguess of drumm playing

  • Bwoy! I need to get this dvd.

  • mehn i wish my church was sounding like dis

  • boy they are choppin it out!

  • where can i purchase the dvd?

  • And I like the most the bell at the 19th sec ..:)

  • Popcycle1, I think it's Teddy Campbell... but I'm not sure, ok?

  • A lot of these drummer's sound the same. A lot of linear pattern fills. I guess the same could be said about rock drummers, and jazz drummers about sounding all alike. I guess it's the style of music. What I like the most about gospel drummers is their ability to move in and out of pocket. But I also don't like this about them because some of them go rediculously out of pocket and it just seems like they feed their egos.
