why are the whites of the eyes redish looking? i'm not asking like it's bad. i've seen it in alot of white tigers and i'm just curious what makes it look like that.
@teddybear1456 ; umm kay you can stop being stupid you must be a idiot to think people can't take care of exotic animals your pissing me right the fuck off i have a very high respect for animals ecspecially white tigers. and people should be aloud to take care of them, it dosent matter where they live i think as long as there healthy and treated nicely and loved they are fine okaay, so stop being a dumbass if you dont like the thought of this video why the fuck did you watch it ?
Awww, insecure because teddybear1456 told the truth? You obviously don't have respect or knowledge about these animals if you are seeking to own them as "pets." Some pets by the way if you're forced to keep them in cages all the time because they're dangerous for your other pets, family and neighbors.
@lemurdue If more people owned tigers, their future would more secure. All big cats are in serious trouble in the wild, mainly due to human encroachment. Human encroachment is basically unstoppable. Captivity is their only long-term hope for survival. As far as 'exotic' goes, all that means is 'not indigenous to the area'. 'Wild' only means something to humnas. Animals don't know (or care) what 'wild' is. Cats are the most adaptible of all animals and do very well in captivity.
Apparently this animal was well treated. Better treated and more loved then most zoos and most likely NOT being bred.
IF you want the species to thrive quit forcing rules on them. Wild animals don't give a damn what relative thier breeding so long as they are. Captive animals atleast get to choose what's set before them. I don't see anyone getting out a turkey baster full of daddy's gravy..-.-' Ignorant people, leave the pedestrians alone and go after the goverment.
Interesting that you fail to mention how these animals are actually created by man forcing related animals to breed...i.e., mother to son, father to daughter or brother to sister.
ALL white tigers are cross eyed....why do you think they're the chosen animal for magic shows and certain forms of entertainment? The do not see correctly and also suffer numerous health problems.
These animals should not exist...and should DEFINITELY not be pets...as this one in the video appears to be.
Americanpye66, r u talking form personal experience, or repeating somebody's idiotic propaganda? What experience if any do you have with tigers? I know many white tigers who are not cross eyed, and they make very fine pets for the right person.
If I had it my way, idiots posting on YouTube should be banned, not pet tigers.
I am sorry, but your last sentence took the words right out of my mouth. Thank you. I am a member of ACEF in Washington and I have heard of you! Happy for what you are doing!
REXANOEXOTICS, you are incorrect. The gene causing the white coloration also causes the optic nerve to be wired to the wrong side of the brain. This means ALL are cross eyed, whether it shows or not. Also, the inbreeding causes many health problems and defects, although the defected tigers are often "discarded." Before you call the facts "idiotic propaganda" please educate yourself.
Also, in the video you state "we would rarely survive in the wild"
This is irrelevant because white tigers would never ever occur in the wild. Tigers do not inbreed in the wild, they are only forced to in captivity. In nature, animals mate to produce healthy and genetically strong offspring. It makes no sense to claim they could exist in the wild.
@AnimalMedia Umm, so the first white tiger came from...?? I hope you check your facts but being "media" with an ar agenda doesn't make that likely. Please cite your references for claiming tigers do not inbreed in the wild also. Citing a reference for the claim of ALL cross eyed would be a great idea also since your claim of "never ever occur in the wild" is complete idiotic untrue propoganda.
So, you can't actually prove Americanpye66 wrong. That explains why all your group does is throw out name calling or accuse animal welfare groups of being "extremists." I guess you're desperate though, since you're losing the battle on this issue. ;)
@lemurdue The trait of white tigers having crossed eyes is a natural phenomenon to compensate for less optic nerve crossing than is normal. Optic Chiasm in cats: In Siamese cats with certain genotypes of the albino gene, this wiring is disrupted, with less of the nerve-crossing than is normal. To compensate for lack of crossing in their brains, they cross their eyes (strabismus). This is also seen in albino tigers.
@deeannac I tried to post the link for reference but it wouldn't talk it, search "white tiger optic wiring" and some really good information comes up besides slanted AR propaganda. Crossed eyes or Strabismus is directly linked to the white gene and is not a separate consequence of inbreeding. Siamese cats and albinos of every species which have been studied all exhibit the same visual pathway abnormality found in white tigers.
Also a quick search on the internet shows credible sources stating that white tigers are PRONE to having crossed eyes (not ALL) and that stasbismus is associated to white tigers of mixed siberian/bengal ancestry and there has been only ONE white pure bengal tiger named "Rewati" that has been reported to be cross eyed. So if we use this argument for justification of why white tigers should not be bred it should also be applied to the albino gene in every species...
@REXANOEXOTICS Depending on who you believe and what 'facts' and 'statistics' you follow it can be argued enough white tigers have been bred that their is now enough genetic variation that inbreeding or at least severe inbreeding is not necessary. But isn't owning one still creating propaganda and encouraging irresponsible breeders who would inbreed? Also you own a golden tabby? How can you defend that considering all golden tabby's are descendants of the same inbred, cross specied white tiger?
Silly. And yes, she is adorable, and clearly well treated. (and regardless of what people may have heard I KNOW no orange tigers were put down for her Mom to get her. She loves ALL cats... you should see her other videos. She OWNS practically all of them. ;O) hee hee)
her name is Pepper, because she is white and gray like salt and pepper. She is an old lady, still with us, but many other owners are not this lucky and had to give up they beloved pets when exotic animal bans happened.:(
also like to point out that there are quite a few white tigers that have survived in the wild. Size goes hand-in-hand with the coloring and white tigers are generally speaking bigger.
Well, ll white tigers are from a single line of tiger, therefore they are all inbred, every single one, and what the breeders don't tell people is that they've probably euthanized 30-60 tigers for you to have your one healthy looking white tiger. And many zoos would choose white over orange if they were healthy, because the public prefers white. I'm glad that the tiger is still with her owner.
One more thing... I do think that it's horrible that this tiger was taken away from her owner who very clearly loved and cared for her well, better than many zoos would. And I'm not all for BCR either, they are just a good place that provides white tiger truths in an easy to understand manner. To tell the truth, BCR is a bit too PeTA-like for me and sometimes they're annoying.
Actually the tiger in this video was not taken away, and is still happy with the owner. The spaceship ending is just 'fiction', 'metaphor, WARNING that if these exotic bans continue the captive tigers will soon be illegal on the whole planet , aka, they will become 'illegal aliens'.
Search 'lion naples' on here. Click on the first video and read the comments. I commented that people need to stop bashing Naples zoo because they're a good zoo and one of the ones that do not breed or buy white tigers. A zookeeper from Naples zoo replied to my post verifying that it's looked down upon in the zoo community to breed and buy white tigers and a lot of inbreeding has to occur to get one. I wouldn't be saying this if I only had info from a single biased source.
Major publicly funded zoos have space limitations (under 500 tigers total in whole USA) on how many big animals they can keep. So they choose politically correct, orange tigers over white tigers, simple as that. But even with 500 individuals, the inbreeding potential over time is great. Captive private sector has thousands tigers, less chance of inbreeding.
If private tigers were so inbred and bad, they wouldn't live to the ripe age of 20, double of the wild tiger lifespan.
Pete, I looked up the white tiger fact vs fiction video. I just have to say... be careful when you allow yourself to be spoon fed your opinions. Make sure that the person holding the spoon is not a liar, conwoman, and a murderer. Apparantly all white tigers do not have crossed eyes...have you seen this video? hmmmmmmmm.
Hmmm, don't survive to adulthood in the wild--I doubt that--there are white tigers in the Sundarbans and other remote places in India--guess you have to know native Indians to know that--just like there is a healthy population of Florida panthers where I live in North Central Florida!
You guys should know that ALL captive white tigers are severely inbred, hybrid bengal-siberian crosses. All are cross eyed (I'm not saying this meanly, it's true and very sad). To get one ehalthy looking white tiger 30-60 tigers are killed or discarded, for being born orange or having horrific deformaties common to the inbred white tiger population. No wild white tiger has ever reached adulthood. For more infor look up white tigers on youtube and watch white tigers: fact vs fiction.
PeteWentsLover, and your false information came from where? Can you direct me to the scientific study (instead of hearsay/propaganda) that proves your misleading claims?
I have a domestic cat. And I know her very well, and am unafraid to touch my face against her belly. Something another person should only try if they do not like their face very much.
I know this pet thoroughly and can usually acutely tell her moods. She never scratches me, and even if she does swat at me on rare occassion she keeps her nails retracted.
Except that one time when nothing seemed to be wrong, I just petted her and she slashed me.
White Tigers have survived in the wild for thousands of years, accounts in India tell of them over the century's. They do not need the orange color to survive, they only need strips. Most all of the large prey they go after is COLORBLIND ! ...........Unlike the crazy people who have problems with them!
I agree with Lynnculver, this beautiful tigress is very well socialized and loved by her humans. She has great cat toys appropriate for her size (Pool, ball, hammock, cat-tree)
