I am a veteran, I signed up for the Marines to protect American ideals including freedom of speech and religion (but it didn't turn out that way). If you think making a drawing is provoking war, then you are totally lost.

Acts like this, over time, will deradicalize (i might've just made up that word) the muslims and maybe we can all tolerate each other more. But before that can happen, the death threats for cartoonists must stop. Or at least be so pathetic they are not taken at all seriously.

@toophatpoyo I do not doubt that some Muslims will think Draw Muhammad Day is mocking and insulting to Islam. What I said was that the objective, the motive, is not to mock or insult Islam. The objective, in essence, is to defend free speech. The method used was chosen because it happens to be the issue at hand (Theo Van Gogh murder, South Park threats, etc).

I know it is a thin line, but technically this is true.

And I don't hide behind pretense. I think Islam is disgusting, ignorant and foolish, as are all religions. But that is a different argument for a different cause. It is separate from the essence of Draw Muhammad Day.

But I am merely trying to convince you that the issue of free speech and the issue of the merits of religion are two separate issues. Sometimes they are intertwined, sometimes they are not. I defend free speech in all meaningful ways. BTW, I also defend a person's right to freedom of religion, and would die to protect it. So go wrap your head around that principle.
