When I first arrived in Bad Kissingen I didn't think I was going to like it. I did, and it was the best place I served at in Germany. I was an MP with the 212th MP Co.. I was the one that had to come and get you drunk, hash smoking, fighting, individuals all the time. I was in BK from Sept 1979 - Nov 1980. We could not even live on the post because you guys liked us so much. We lived over top the Dental Clinic in the downtown part of the city near the train station.
Great video. Hated that the barracks was torn down. BK was a good place to be stationed. The border was an awesome place. Ines, if you're there, I love you, woman.
My Daddy and family were there in 1984-1985 1st Seargent Greg McKEE. It really was a wonderful and beautiful place to be stationed at. The German economy and people were quite friendly to us. Thaks for posting this. Great Memories. And Thank You for serving our Country. Without you, we could not have the freedoms that we do. Thank you.
Any one remember Nichols or Maurer? from Headquarters Troop in Transportation? 72- 75 They were from Mich somewhere, I lost track of them when I left in 75
i was there in 73-77 with my dad.his name was richard lee waller and even though he has past on he would have loved this video.i loved bk.he did border patrol.and spent alot of time at camp lee
Thank You for sharing your photos. I was in BK in 1998 as a spouse. It is such a beautiful place. When did the post close? We were only in temp housing for a short time.
OH man, I miss BK.. I met my now still Husband there. I worked at the snack bar and the NCO club 79-82. At the NCO club we served chicken and fries for lunch. My husband worked at the Aide Station as a Medic. Anyone remember "Britman"?
Damn, you guys are all young, I was a medic in the 562nd and I replaced the medic who hung himself up in the attic of the barracks that were closest to the parade field/athletic field/helicopter area. That was not a good time to be in the army. Some drunk commandeered a tank (before I arrived, but I heard all about it) and aimed it at one of the barracks. While i was there a heroin addicted cook in another unit on post shot his sarge to death.
My friend was on the call after the shooting and he said the sarge bled to death because he was hit in an artery. We used to smoke with the crazy bastards in the engineering unit who were on the second floor. Smoke and smoke and smoke. We had a battery picnic t some guesthaus outside of town which turned into a drunken brawl. We, the "heads", got out of there when the juocer's fists started flying. we used to throw a frisbee in a big green area by the river and the Germans would all...
watch us in awe, since frisbees were not sold there, A very beautiful place, despite all the problems. The Germans were...well...German. I remember eating schnitzl at a restaurant right in the middle of town and getting great pastries from a baker in town early in the morning after pulling duty at the dispensary. And we would go to the public pool and jump off the high dive. Cool castles right outside of town. Some of the lifers were a-holes of course, but I met some great people in the Army.
Stars and Stripes every morning in a little building right past the PX. I remember finding out about Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, and Jim Morrison all dying (not on the same day, of course) in the headlines of the S&S seconds after buying it while walking back to the barracks.
There was also some crazy fucking German barber there. You NEVER, EVER went to this teutonic prick AFTER lunch, because he would drink a few beers at lunch and he became even nastier and rougher with the clippers. I saw one GI go off on him and almost kick his ass after one torture errr haircut. Sorry to go on so long, but I am old and all geezers have are memories.
What year were U there? I believe that was a 105 Howitzer and the dude had a round chambered and ready to fire if my memory is right. Scary as hell. I heard this had happened right before I got there in 1971.
I was there from spring 1970 thru September 1971 and the tank incident happened before I arrived so it must have been early 1970. I believe Time Magazine actually wrote about it in a story about bad morale in the services.
Yea, morale was pretty bad when I was there, I think that's the reason everyone smoked hash or drank all the time. I got there I think it was Sept. 71, C Battery 2/41st.
OMG!! Brings back some vivid memories!! I was in F Troop from 86-88. Was knifed in a barfight in Hammelburg, but I would go back tomorrow. I loved the CAV!!!
Hi. This is really a good video of men and their kind of "man-made" soldiers, the American kind. It is also good to be here, for it is good to be around, here. Thank you for the good work all the way from San Antonio, Texas, U. S. A. Sincerely, James Howard Day (Jr.) serving now as the "Solo Survivor Stud," action, here and abroad; Date: Saturday, 11 July 2009; 12:07 Hours/12:07 P. M.
My husband, kids and I all lived in gh across the strause from Daley- it was good. I shopped at the commissary, had many friends, sad to see it's gone:(
I was stationed at HHB 2/41 from 78-81 and remember BK very well. I remember the drunken shouting matches the FA on one side of the field would get into with the ACR guys on the other, (smiles). Although in most cases some unit would always be on some field maneuver I can recall a few times when both the ACR (minus the one on boarder rotation) and the FA were all on post at the same time, talk about raising hell!
Cool Video. Was There '68-70; 2/14 ACR. Tours at Wollbach and Colburg. Ever meet the lovely fraulein at the Wollbach village Gasthaus? Her folks own the place.
thanks for the memories, I was stationed there from 88-91 HHB 2/41. I didn't like the army but loved germany and extended a year. Glad the Army sent me there learned a lot about life in those 3 yrs.
I was in the SVC BTRY "forty worst" FA at BK from 79 to 81. Loved BK and the people. MAde some real nice German local friends. Whitehorse, Stephan's, Wienerwald, and some other places they tell me I had a wonderful time at but can't remember. Anyone recall the time two drunk GIs drag raced two M109s down from the 41st track park?
I was a platoon leader in E Troop (1984) and Boeselager Patrol Leader (1986). Many fond memories came back and I was able to send the video to my daughter, who was born in Fulda. Great job!
I was in BK 84-85 with the 10th Engineers "B-10-E". I always ate at the Cav mess hall. 2/41st or as I remember it 2nd 40 worst had a terrible mess hall. There was always Genero's Pizza shack. Lets not forget the Junk Man in the PX parking lot and everyone's Barber " Shaky Jake". I enjoyed traveling, but lets face it BK was 1 horse town and I was happy to PCS back to the states.
