An amazing person in my school name Robert Smuniewski died last year. Many kids in my school are posting this on their facebook page for him, since today is the one year anniversary of his death. I miss you so much Rob, you were truly an amazing person, and you never failed to brighten up everyones day with simply your presence or a smile. Rest Easy kid, you're soul will live on forever in our hearts and in our minds.
Hubby sent this song to me, as we're mourning the passing of our daughter, Amber, at 23 earlier this year and anticipating her birthday coming up this week. It's tough. Lovely song and good to remember.
when i was little my brother told me he wanted this song played at his funeral. years later he got cancer and passed away when he was 20 years old his best friend sang this at his funeral. this song holds a special space in my heart
@Juliii151 i first heard this song at my good friends little brother's funeral after he passed away from cancer at 21...only song that makes me tear up every time i hear it
This is the theme song for my father and his best friend, and myself..... im just appreciative of its existance and would like to say "thank you Old Crow Medicine Show".
It's important to remember the message of this song when you start to rage against "those people", throwing everyone into little convenient boxes to hate. Sometimes you have to remember that everyone was once a little baby, that they've all cried, that they've all loved and lost, and if they haven't yet, they will. In this society that worships self-satisfaction, it can be tough to remember that other people are people too.
I remember the first time I heard this. My grandfather has Alzheimer's disease and has completely lost his memory of his own life and his family's. He also lost his ability to walk. My sister and I were driving home from my grandparents' house and this came on. I had to stare out the window to hide my tears. The lyrics speak to me so clearly. My grandfather led a fantastic life and even though it's horrible now I know he could have looked back on it and been proud.
not enough bands like this these days. totally original, not trying to fit the mold that seems to sell albums. they truly do it for the love of the music and they stay true to themselves.
Just lost a friend this past weekend. This song fits the feel right now. My favorite band ever, OCMS. I will miss you Brian Bright. Your laugh was beautiful and brought me great joy.
The first time I heard this song was on a snowy November day in Taos, New Mexico. A few buddies of mine had just got booted off to jail and me and my friend B were cruising down the highway feeling low. He said "Give this song a shot. Tell me what you think." We sat in complete silence as snow drifted down on my windshield and was just as quickly batted away by the windshield wipers listening to OCMS, experiencing life for that moment with one another. I hope others can share similar experiences
I live in Tennessee, went to a insane party at a log cabin in the boonies. Drank hard on cinnamon shine, in the midst of the party a long haired blonde fellow pulled out a banjo and started playing on the porch. I was the first to sit down and listen to him play, we passed a joint in our rocking chairs looking out at the mountains as he played this song on his banjo, singing the words flawlessly. Awesome night.
@Ahoc1 That is awesome. I once had a similar experience, but it was with an acoustic guitar, and he was playing other folk songs. But still rather similar, and it was a beautiful experience.
@loder111 Tell me about Rob. Please! it is important. No bullshit, just a simple sentance. Why is he important? As so many are to each of us. I do want to know, thanks. Scott
@chaosofscotty He was a funny ass kid who didn't give a fuck whayt he did or what anyone thought about him. The kid jumped on a table and asked a girl to prom in front of the whole school. He was just a memorable kid and I'll always have those memories for the rest of my life.
James river blues, We're all in this together, When der wud no crawfish, Dont ride that horse, Gospel plow, And pretty much Everything else lol... these guys rule...enjoy the show!
Saw them three years ago in Northhampton Mass. Iron Horse - very small room - unbelieveable!!! And then a year ago in East Hartford CT in an old high school auditorium. I've never seen a crowd so wildly involved in a show! I hope they stay healthy and play forever! Why they're not ruling the music world I don't know...
The perfect song to make one look inside himself....and reflect.

This was the song my husband and I danced our first dance to at our wedding, four years ago. Crazy.
