Paul has only superficial similarities with Nader when it comes to foreign policy, and when it comes to domestic policy, they have zero in common. As boomac62 explained, Paul is a libertarian. Libertarianism is a strange blend of run away capitalism and anarchy. Unlike Paul, Nader actually believes in government.

Paul and Nader have identical Foreign policies on what matters most. Get out of foreign entanglements. Get out of war. What is so superficial about that? In fact, their similarities on other important issues, including civil liberties, limited government, and freedoms are virtually endless. Nader, like Paul, believes in getting into power in order to take away their power.

Ron's view is that if the government is doing it, it's evil and bad and oppressive. He doesn't oppose the war. He opposes the fact that it is a government operation. Listen to his rhetoric. He doesn't talk about the terrible suffering of the Iraqi people. His main opposition is that it's in violation of the constitution. He doesn't view it as a proper role of the federal government. Thats all. What would Ron Paul say if Lockheed Martin, Halliburton, and Bechtel were fighting the war?

On their "virtually endless" similarities on other issues -- Paul wants to abolish federal income tax, the department of education, minimum wage laws, social security, federal welfare, gun control laws and medicare. He opposes socialized/managed healthcare. He has a fairly poor voting record on unions. He is basically the anti-nader. It is regrettable that many of you folks think they are similar at all. It just makes Nader look bad.

I agree that Ron Paul is an honest who honorably resists political pressure and refuses to compromise his integrity. I do not agree with his flavor of politics. It is his kind shallow "get the government off the backs of the people" rhetoric that was the number one political obstacle that Nader faced when pushing for his reforms. Ron Paul seems like a great guy. He would be a disaster as a president, and in terms of policy and ideology, he is the anti-Nader.
