I didn't understand a single fucking thing about this game. I still don't. All I know is that this game has stuck with me since I was 6 years old, playing for the very first time on my new Sega Saturn on Christmas 1995.

@FuelledByHamish Yeah it's pretty cool, and very hard :) If you take a look at my latest video where I got a score of 868,420 you can see it in action. I updated the video response. I'd like to get back to this level one day and see if I can break 900K. That would be cool.

I agree... this Game should go in the Hall of Fame for Games along with Sonic. The graphics and art wasy at it's best for the system back then. I don't know of any game with our modern powerful systems that even try to bring this much fun and full extent into gaming. I mean... back then when i had my Saturn... I was sooooo blown away with what I was seeing on my T.V. I felt as if I was already looking at an HD TV back then!!!!

@cokerainbows one of the cool features in the game is the music will change depending on the moods of your pians (the a-life system). i have some separate videos on the melody box from christmas NiGHTS, which lets you mix your own music for each level. it's pretty cool

@NiGHTScharlie The Japanese Saturn version, do you mean? I might be wrong, but I thought all region versions play the same (i.e. because the EU version is unoptimised).

@FuelledByHamish Ah sorry, I was referring to the PS2 game. It was only released in Japan so I did some tricks to get it working on my north american PS2.

@NiGHTScharlie I feel daft for not realising; I didn't realise/think it was the PS2 one due to the quality (no offence!) I've been tempted several times to get the game, and either spend a ton on a Japanese PS2 or mod a UK one. Maybe one day!

@FuelledByHamish Haha...no offence taken! This video is actually the Sega Saturn version (and I had a bad capture card 3 yrs ago), but in the comments I was talking to somebody about the PS2 version. If you have an old fat PS2 and Swap Magic it's actually not too difficult or costly to play the Japanese version.

I remember a few of us on The Will of the Ancients (Panzer Dragoon fan-site) were having a contest, and while I can't remember my score it was the highest for a brief time... needless to say it was royally surpassed quite rapidly, haha.

@FuelledByHamish Panzer Dragoon is a game that's been in the back of my mind for a while. I really have to play through it again. I'm not even sure if I ever finished the game, or maybe it was the sequel, but it's definitely one of the best games on the Saturn. Burning Rangers is another game I really want to play through again. Too many games to play! :)

@NiGHTScharlie Was it an on-rails shooter? The original PD, PD II [Zwei] and PD Orta [4; Xbox] are, while the third game PD Saga is an RPG. But yeah, they’re all awesome—and they have great music too! Also, Burning Rangers is one of the games I must try; I have very few Saturn games, regrettably. But at least I have NiGHTS, the PD series, and Rayman. :)

This person did a superb job on the adequate way on how to play this game right. :] Very nicely done. This game is definitely a challenge to surpass, as are Sonic games and Billy Hatcher xD Anways, I love this game, it's full of immense entertainment and it's own unique style.

I loved this game. I failed classes thinking about this game when I was a kid. I dont have time to play games but I just had to see if someone felt like I felt. I've never loved a game so much in my life.

@cinderpelt27 Congrats!!! I did the same thing when I first started playing. No you do not need the 3D controller to play it, but you will want to get one because it does make the flying and paraloops a lot easier. Have fun!! =D

I recently got a Saturn and a copy of NiGHTS and a 3D Control Pad (again). I loved this game when it came out.

Still tons of fun and waaay better than the JiD Wii abomination. Now, to get my A-Life up. I used to have a little Nightopian castle in Spring Valley. Best music...

@AllHailKingKurt Haha yes I would disagree with you on this one! :) The fact that this was basically our only NiGHTS game and there have been countless numbers of Sonic games I don't think it's fair to say we should have got another Sonic game instead. Really we should have got both games but Sonic Xtreme got cancelled...

This game is great but it isn't the ONLY reason to buy a Saturn. There's a lot of great anime-inspired games that are terribly overlooked, mainly because Sega's marketing staff was stupid and thought that people wouldn't buy into it. It turns out those are some of the best games for Saturn. This game is probably one of the few 3D games Sega did right on the Saturn, and it shows! This game is praised as an underrated classic.

I recorded my videos using an external usb capture device from pinnacle...basically i send the video out of my tv, into the pinnacle device, and then into my computer.

Very impressive... if you can get to such a high score in a months' time, I tremble at what you can accomplish given time. It took me about a decade of playing to reach a total score of about 786k. I hope you can better my scores, and I definitely look forward to more of your vids.
