hey my mom just bought this car yesterday and i was wondering if theres an overdrive because i cant find it and theres so many buttons on the damn thing i dont want to mess anything up. she has the 2000 xj8 vanden plas. when i drove it home i would floor it and wouldnt go over 2 1/2 rpms. if you could let me know where its located, or if it even has one it would be very helpful, thanks
I hjave a coiple of light scrapes on my car now...one about 6 by 6 inches, god knows how that happened, and another about 4 by 12 inches in the left rear side. I Do know how that happened. No dents, really just scrapes. What I can't stand thinking about is how long the car may have to hang in a shop while some guys finally get around to doing the work...which involves smoothing, then base coat, and outer coat which has all the real color and dazzle. How many days? I can't stand it.

I suppose there is a time and place for things...I was having dinner in North Beach, S.F., and the music in the palce was a live Italian pop recording done in a stadium...the big sound...Somehow that stadium sound just really doesn't go with candlelight, warm rare san francisco night, and good Italian food.

It's usually down to how the marketing division in each country wants it to sound. e.g. Jag-yoo-ar or Jagwar. As fr how you pronounce Countach, I've even asked two Italians, they're not sure!
The interior is nice, but the exterior styling after '03 just plain sucks. They got rid of all the exterior styling that made a Jag a Jag. They need to bring back all that heavy chrome on the side windows, and the fluted grill and fluted rear chrome piece as well. From the side, you can't even tell this is a Jag, they even fucked up the headlight shape. No thanks, I'll take a 2000-2003 model only!
I gotta disagree somewhat.I think the new model xj8 looks nice.The signature"?" brake lights stand out and I like the evolution of the bulkier body style.I just hate the S-Type(Ford Taurus).The 08 xj8 looks just like the jaguar portfolio.

The Vanden Plas is known as the Daimler in the UK. Our Daimlers are exactly the same spec as Vanden Plas models destined for the USA.
I suspect the Daimler name cant be used in the states because of some legal wrangling with Mercedes.
