2:34 the scene where the third doctor comes out of the shuttle and walks towards that light was conputer colourized in 1992 by american film tech(legend films) as part of a restoration for vhs.of course colourising an entire episode in those days was expensive.
I quite like watching this with the rainbow patterning. It reminds me of watching Dr Who back in Illinois as a kid, with the huge aerial on top of the house, struggling to pick up PBS. As a story, though, I think it works better in B&W, creepier, and the effects don't look quite so wonky.
I really feel though, based on what I've seen of spoilers here and there from Series 5 with MATT SMITH, I think much of what RTDs version lacked from the classic series Steven Moffat will reintroduce into the series. I have seen filming locations for four of the new episodes so far, and NONE of them are set in modern day Cardiff as Eccleston and Tennants stories were so frequently set.
the tone of this story is serious and beliveable in my book it's what the show now, with all its glitzy special effects and vast laddlings of syrupy sentiment desperately needs to recapture... the Doctor as portrayed by Jon Pertwee is alien scientist, diplomat and explorer...that is WHO the Doctor is...
Bravo! Well said! RTD's version of Who seemed a little TOO not serious. Granted, the Doctor is known for making light of desperate situations, but the new series just seems a little too...."plucky" so to speak. Its more like watching Red Dwarf than Doctor Who. Classic Who always, as you say, had a fluent "serious tone" with its stories. The plots revolved solely around the problem at hand - with no side-story about the Doctor's companion's family life to act as a tear jerker.
The BBC need to get their arse in gear and colourise and release the remaining Pertwee episodes instead of releasing dvds of the Colin Baker and Sylvester Mccoy shit that destroyed the classic series.
Colin Baker isn't shit. The only reason his stories have been released first is because the least work is needed to restore them hence their quick release.
The Pertwee era on the other hand needs more work than most (including Hartnell/Troughton), three stories have certain coloured episodes missing, one story is only available in B&W completely & several need extensive work on them as the original recolourisations were a rushed job. They will be out but need much needed work done on them.
saw john pertwee one day in wales filming dr who ,,,we said hello he said piss off ,,,great memory lmao ....strange tho because now my cousin is assistand producer on the new series
this is NOT recoloured! this is in fact, a v v poor quality taped original colour in the US of A. that rainbow look was interferance from tv. interesting to look at though
Ok - does anybosdy have a good quality copy of this with rainbow banding? I'd like to have a play and believe I have the eqpt and skills to be able to do something to remove the rainbowing from this.
A tall claim I know - any offers?
+ I have spoken with the Restoratioon Team re colourising this story - perhaps I may not need to - IF THIS WORKS.

Cool. Always nice to see this story and compressed the rainbowing isn't that bad.
