You can tell the big diff. when you put the video onto a DVD and play it in a standard DVD drive TV mode looks like a regular camcorder. Cine Mode (when edited right) gives you that close to film look, i always record in Cine Mode, i Have the Canon HF20
does the quality still look good in TV mode? I am looking to make videos out in town where i interact with people.. what mode would be best? i really don't understand the diference.. I am getting a Canon HV20
quality isn't different. the main difference between the two is just contrast, and that in tv mode you can change shutter speeds, and in cinemode shutter speeds automatically work at 1/48 and slower.
u get a shallower dof with tv mode .. coz ur aperture must b wide open , as ur shutter speed is way too high for normal shoot. 2000 makes videos jittery.
Markus, I'm going to shoot my second full-length Filipino digital movie this December. I'm using my CANON HV30. What do you think I should use? 24P TV Mode or 24P Cinemode? Which do you think will look great on the big screen? Thank you so much for the help.
Watch the clip at 1:07, notice in TV mode the sky is blown out. In cinemode, clouds, and gradation can be seen. Again at 2:01. Watch the shadows & shutter adjust. In cinemode it remains flat. If your plans call for a movie, go w/ cinemode & give the editor some options. You can make it look like TV mode in post.
VEGAS & Blender are my favorite NLE's. VEGAS is quick, intuitive, and very powerful. Almost any NLE will get the job done though. I've heard good things about color correcting in After Effects, and have had amazing results using Combustion. I'd just recommend using an NLE that makes you *want* to use it.
I only need my NLE to splice and dissolve. I use Blender's composite nodes and modeling for titles & effects. I like that I can accomplish everything in one suite. And in the words of me.. Use a NLE that makes you *want* to use it. :) Happy cutting. We're all after the same thing.
I've read that Cine Mode tries to keep the shutter speed at 1/48 in 24P mode and 1/60 in 30P mode and that this is what accounts for the smoother motion when compared to TV mode.
interesting...the strobe-light-like efect is pretty cool. If you'r not going to change it latter, definetly the Tv looks better, but, I think cinema mode is better for post, 'cause you don't have a lot of contrast, allowing you to modify it more widely.
For the price, you can't beat it. Compared to all the other consumer cams, this gives you the most shooting options if you're into filmmaking. No tripod. Cheers!
I couldn't help but laugh at 1:47 because the man kept on looking at the bottle after every sip he took of the drink.

Wow. thank you for this video. I use to shoot in 24p, but this 30p tv mode looks so cool ... :)) Thank you!

@maliveseljak2
24p cinemode is better if you're going to do color correction because it has a higher dynamic range since the contrast is so low.

I use SONY VEGAS. Do you suggest I use another software for post production? I would appreciate your recommendation.

@chitalker
um.. blender is a 3d animation software. Not a NLE. NLE means Non-linear editor. blender is nowhere near an NLE.

@sonicballer8888
um.. open blender, press ctrl+right arrow twice.
chitalker 2 years ago
ok i see that now. but why would you EVER use Blender to edit a video? it doesn't have nearly the amount of options of a real NLE

You should've showed an additional clip with 24p, I'd just like to see the difference when you've got such nice 30p footage :D
Thanks anyways, it was a great difference. And it helped quite a bit. Thanks!

Great video!
I just picked up an HV30 and found the exact same thing. The video's just aren't as clear in 30p but the motion is smoother.
TV mode has much, much crisper detail.
I'm with you, looks like unless I want to "look like" a movie, I'm not going to be using the 30P mode.
Great vid!
