  • the best! theres no subsitute

  • I get chills. I am in heaven listening to this.

  • i agree

  • This is the man that was the backbone of Chicago in their prime.

  • Love Peter Cetera's songs.

The hairstyle made me laugh though, reminds me of He-man....LOL

  • Jason listen and LEARN !!!!!!!!! PETER !

  • My lovely wife and I saw them twice, many years ago when the original band was intact. Two of the best performances we have ever seen or heard. A GREAT band and by the way, why are they NOT in the R&R Hall of Fame? Shameful.

  • TERRY KATH SOLED THE GUITAR PUZZLE.

  • Yes, PC is one of the greatest singers of all time! To this day, he shoulda stayed, he made a huge mistake leaving the band...

  • Peter Cetera is a great musician/singer, but Chicago, to me, died with Terry Kath.

  • He missed a few notes. I've played this song when I was playing music years ago. I know the song mucho well.

  • The sexiest song of all time.

  • the real Chicago died with the passing of Terry Kath - bubble gum after that though this is one of the better post Kath efforts - RIP to the guy Hendrix saluted by saying "I'm good - BUT THAT DUDE CAN PLAY".....

  • @hagan091094 While I agree with the rest of your comment, this song wasn't a "post Kath" effort. It was originally released on Chicago VII in 1974, and Terry played acoustic on it.

  • @mabrowndog I stand corrected - you are correct - think you know what I meant though on Kath era versus bubblegum post Kath Cetera era - Pete sang on many of the great early rockers - happy to meet another Kath fan

  • @mabrowndog You are right on the release but Terry actually played the bass guitar on the song. A talent I used to argue about in the 70's when all my friends were raving about Frehley,Nugent,Dharma and so on. Terry made those guys look like students taking lessons.

  • Comment removed

  • @wfllchief - Actually, we're both wrong. ;) I just checked the liner notes from the Group Portrait box set, and it was Jimmy Guercio (the band's producer) on acoustic and Peter on bass. Terry did play bass on Wishing You Were Here while Guercio and Cetera played acoustic guitars.Terry's electric guitar with the phase shifter was also dubbed in. Terry also played bass on Skinny Boy, which was an incredibly funky lick, and on Byblos he handled bass & guitar. Yup, an amazingly talented guy.

  • Remarkable. A true legend. Cetera is a Hall of Famer. He is unreplaceable !

  • @MrLen1955

    Sorry, Who's Pet Cetera?

  • @winnyfernando Peter Cetera? Frontman of Chicago and singer in this vid? One of the greatest singer ever? ;-)

  • @winnyfernando

Pet Cetera is the puppet that sang "If You Leave Me Now" in the pets.com ad.

  • okay, here i go again but..... peter's beauty, talent and intensiveness are driving me WILD right now. anyone figure out that time machine yet???

  • from VII - classic song! I'll refrain from any bashing -- other than saying nothing beats the original -- be Chicago, Lynyrd Skynyrd, whomever. Nothing will ever beat the first 8 albums. Thanks for posting and long live Chicago's music.

  • I like how you can really hear Pete's bass playing in this one.

  • They should have recorded all their albums live. Cetera let's loose when he's live.

  • Not a bad recording - audio as actually better than the video - thanks for posting. (Oh, and it's not "unfare" to criticize the group now that he's out. They dumped Seraphine because they weren't happy with his performance. As the soon as the sales dropped dramatically after Chicago 17 they should have dropped Scheff.)

  • Incedible song, incredible talent, Peter Cetera you're unique

Increible cancion, talento increible, Peter cetera sos unico

  • the band chigago does not was the same without peter. is like the stones without mick jagger

  • @tecnoborg75 you said it, buddy

  • The great Peter Cetera. The famous dynamic voice of Chicago with his unreplaceable voice

  • BEAUTIFUL, SMOOTH VOCALS, Mr. Cetera.... Flawless, as usual!!!!

  • BEST SONG EVER,,,,,,

  • That's the original Peter Cetera of Chicago in 1979 with an empowering voice. All out singing to a very dedicated song even in live very easy. But now, when he was surrounded by orchestras aside from his own ensemble, singing HAPPY MAN was far more different from this. It seems he was so tired and gasping air. The great mortality of his voice was truly missing. You can check from youtube

  • This is my all time favorite Chicago song..........I LOVE IT!!!!!!

  • They Nailed It !

  • I remember when Chicago was known as CTA (Chicago Transit Authority) back in the early 70's....this song has always been my favorite though along with "Color my World" which was our prom theme! Love love love it!!

  • this song is from my era. Chicago, Petera Cetera - WOW looking back all those years. Excellent song ! Love it, ! Always have always will - it will be along forever - this young generation needs to listen to Chicago and appreciate the music. Hey, I grew up on the southwest side of Chicago, in the 70's when Chicago just started and we all got to know each other pretty well. These guys were very nice and a pleasure to be around.

  • This is the 1st time that I hear this live version. Cetera;s live vocals are stunning.

  • Cetera definitely on this night He could be sketchy as he got older within the group But obviously for the first 12 years he was very good live [if this is any indication!] The old Pine Knob in Clarkston Michigan !! Saw many concerts there ..Why they had to change the name to DTE Energy Theater I'll never understand. Corporations have big egos! This is a special video !!Thanks for putting this up!!! Old Live Chicago is not that common!

  • Forsooth and Egads! You got me slipping..........Lee wrote Call on Me from VII. I had a brain fart and the Polish Prince did write Happy Man. There is a version of Lee singing Happy Man really well on here. Here is the search label. I couldn't post the link. Chicago - Happy Mann (Lee Loughnane on vocals) It only has 5k views so It might be hard to locate. Thanks Glenn, and you were polite about it.

  • To me... Chicago is Robert Lamm, Peter Cetera, Terry Kath & Danny Seraphine! I liked Dacus and the alive again re-launch is still pretty good. Bailey was good. I really like Howland though. Scheff sounds good on bass but might need to retire the vocals. I respect Champlin's musicianship but his inner jazz diva was killing at times. i have never liked Tris's drums. No real personality like Dannys.

  • This is a great performance, The only Happy Man on here. There is one of Lee (who wrote it) singing it on YTube also and is good.

enjoy these guys while we can, If you think about it, it's probably their last decade.

  • @sonicwarrior

Cetera wrote it for the Chicago VII album.

  • Sonicwarrior, I believe that you're thinking of, "Call on Me". Lee wrote that. Peter wrote, "Happy Man" and "Wishing You Were Here" for VII. Lee never sang once during the years I saw Chicago and I have to agree with you, he did a good job on Happy Man. Cheers!

  • actually, no. peter wrote it. check the album's liner notes. he's also talked about how it came together in various interviews.

  • i love the oooh mama part. every little nuance he adds to any of the songs he sings only makes them better. he's the end all and be all as a vocalist as far as i'm concerned. nobody better.

  • The ooohhh mama annoys me. But seriously, Cetera is absolutely fit into Chicago. He went on to create great songs himself. He made such uplifting music.

  • wow, cetera nailed the vocals on this performance, impressive.........

  • peter knoe=ws how to write emtional songs. He has that gift. It's needed in music today.

  • Classic!

  • what an incredible performance, especially by the one and only PC

  • when God created pC...the mold was shattered!

  • Cetera is a music legend. When Cetera left the group, Chicago had one foot in the grave. Another serious blow to the group was the loss of Terry Kath, another Hall of Famer !

  • One of my favorite Chicago songs. "Im falling in love with youuuuuuuuuuu"

  • i'm dedicating this song to that lil' girl in california. you know who you are. i hope you know who i am....

  • TQM Sandra Mi Amor

    Te Amo Sandra!

  • great mood-music.

chicago VII....searching so long....happy man, lifesaver, song of the evergreens.....awesome music.

  • Excelente !!! Pena não ter encontrado video com melhor qualidade. Memorias da infancia.

Wonderfull !!! Wish it could in better quality video. Memories from my childhood.

  • Cetera is Chicago ! Chicago has never fully recovered from the loss of Peter Cetera, Terry Kath & Danny Seraphine. These individuals, in my humble opinion, were the backbone of the group. Guitar players and drummers are a dime a dozen, but Masters of such and Legendary singers are rare and hard to come by. After Cetera was created, the mold was broken and destroyed forever. Jason tries, but does not compare to Cetera.

  • CETERA IS THE BEST !

  • THE voice of chicago. who cares if he didn't found the band- he made the band with his singing. they would have made an unrecoverable mistake had they not agreed to let him sit in with them. get a clue libralady.

  • Oh I don't need clues kimberkley. I know who founded the band and who wrote HALF of CTA-Robert Lamm-the 1st album that sent them on their way. And there were three great voices-not just Peter's. So YOU not only need to get a clue but do some background reading about the band. Robert's done solo work but he's never left the band or made demands to be billed as ' Peter Cetera and Chicago.' I like Peter but he could've NEVER made it by himself w/out the help of the guys in the band from '67 on.

  • and you are the pres of Bobby Lamm's fan club?

Hmm half...so credit to pc too! And he still sounds damn fine!

  • About that presidency: is there an opening? Why the sarcasm-I said I liked PC but it's true...he was the last one to join and could've never made it on his own from the very ' Beginnings!' I don't care how low one is feeling ,you put on the song Beginnings and you just feel good again. Like ' Old Days' makes you feel good or it should. Cheers!

  • Yes...Beginings is the best song ever....The first time I heard it I was hooked for life!

Do remember that Peter was in a very sucessful band,he quit that band to join Chicago. He was not a last resort pick. He could sing he could play...he fit into what Chicago was. Chicago rocks!

  • Hot song - I'd love to "fALL IN LOVE WITH PETE CETERA"

  • get in line- he's all mine! lol

  • Love it ! Grew up in the 70's Chicago, loved them for years, seen their concerts, went back staqe, saw their parents home with the gold records. Absolutely love this song. my favorite !

  • Looove this song! Thanks!

  • Reminds me of a girl I liked long ago, and have grown to love all these years later. For you, J

  • such a romantic song. have listened to it 5000 times and never get enough!

I also like the version on ceteras album "one clear voice".

  • Yes baby!!!! Falling in love with you Kiko....best song ever

  • Wow this brings back memories of the days when my life was simple back in the 70s. I sure long for those summer days back at Newport Beach in the OC.

  • I just had to post our band playing a Chicago song in response to "Happyman live" because it Makes me smile, no one can play it like they did! :)

  • Reading some of these posts, one would think Cetera founded the band(!) when in reality he was the last one to join...and ASKED to sit in with them. True...they needed a tenor but give it a rest. He wasn't and isn't Mozart! A great balladeer. I like Peter but there are other songwriters/singers, i.e., Robert Lamm -who wrote almost HALF of that incomparable CTA 1st album, Jimmy Pankow, and yes the late Terry Kath. And there were THREE GREAT VOCALISTS.

  • Great points, as Cetera didn't really take off as a songwriter until Chicago 7 when he hit with Wishin' You Were Here and this great tune. But, he was The Voice of Chicago, like it or not, as he sang lead on 11 of the group's 17 top ten hits from '69 thru '84. Also, he had the best voice in the group. Kath was a great blues singer and Lamm 's always comforting and pleasant, but it was Cetera who had the real unique gift. No one sounds like this. One note and you know it's Peter Cetera.

  • Of course he sang lead. He was their front man! A great balladeer but 40 years laters, 3 generations in my family ALL love 'Does anybody Really Know what Time it is,Beginnings,Make Me Smile Suite. IMHO-Lamm is the better singer/songwriter, but I like Peter, just personal preference.

  • Lovely....

  • I love this song....

  • I love Cetera's playing and voice with Chicago. But I think he is unfare to criticize the group now that he's out.

  • @begjenny I have never read or heard him criticize Chicago.I have heard him praise Jason for the hard time that everyone has given him over the years,

  • @begjenny Hey, no it's not especially since I do it because Terry is gone lol. You just have to face facts when it comes to them. Terry made that group sound great, Robert and Peter made the group sound good but losing both Terry and Peter was just too much. I'm not going to even go there about dropping Danny. You know it's true though.

  • Peters vocal style cannot be matched he is truly unique. When you hear the voice you know its him immediately. Love him

  • I love this song!

    The best of 70th

  • one of the best songs in the world...not much airplay...go figure.

By one of the greatest bands of the 60's and 70's. Real music!

  • Incredible song....

    Cancion increible....

    Incredible moments, thanks Chicago...

    Momentos increibles, gracias Chicago...

  • Wow, brings back many memories of my late husband who LOVED Chicago. We knew every song as soon as the record came out. Whet to each and every concert in New York. Thanks for posting.

  • On one of PC's post Chicago Solo cd's (One Clear Voice) he performs this song at a very slow speed. My wife and I picked it to be our slow dance song at our 2002 wedding. We saw him and his little orchestra at Foxwoods Casino in CT.

During his break he played a video of "Dialouge". A video I have never seen on You Tube.

  • My favorite song from Chicago VII. Cetera is a great bass player.

  • I wonder If Peter Cetera Brags about how good he is ??? I cant tell if he is conceited or Modest

  • Nice job, Peter!

    RB

  • When Cetera was "on", no one could touch him.

This song could be performed more pefectly than this.

  • *could NOT be

  • Peter Cetera is the best of the last 40 years.

  • I got your "pine knob" hangin'

  • This and "Only The Beginning" are the two of the most beautiful love songs of the 70s.

  • One of their greatest love songs .... it doesnt make the big list... but wow. Should be a song all lovers share.

  • This song takes me back to the best time of my life and the greatest group ever!! Thanks for giving us the best music Chicago!!

  • Fabulous...Cetera really gets into it when he is in concert. I have seen many Chicago concerts over the years and he has never let me down. I love the way he sings "In my life" at 2:48

  • hi to all!! im 19 yrs old.... i was never been born this time.... but damn!!! this guy really make me feel good on my worst days! whenever i hear his songs!!! i mean... i am supposed to be liking my songs on my generation but... no....songs today are CRAP! not all of them...but i am really inlove with the songs before... i thank them coz they have written songs like this! and i truly adore it! not only peter cetera but a lot singers back in the day and of caourse their songs!!! i love music.....

  • I love Cetera's performance of this song ! (And all others his songs, of course, too:) He sing, fingering and move such organic and beatiful !

  • Thanks for posting this! You brought me back to the Summer of 1976 when I was young and in love and would play this song daily and get a natural high! Thanks for helping me bring back that nice feeling after all these years!

  • Wow I never thought I will see this song being sung LIVE! THank You

  • good song,bad sound

  • thanks for posting man... my wife and i love this song very much...

  • This is my favorite version of this song. PC is in the wonder years.......thanks so much for the posting. I would love to see the whole concert if it exists. Every cut is great from it. Thanks for sharing it all.

  • I love this song...to many memories THANKS FOR POST IT! muacks!

  • Peter Cetera has always been a phenomenon with great hits!!

Chicago is one of the greatest bands>>

  • singers like peter cetera and john farnham only comes once in a lifetime, great performers,at 00:28 mins. into the video clip,i was surprised to notice his base guitar with those unique string knobs, they're usually designed in-line fours or either two on two....nice performance...

  • Peter is awesome live on this song !

  • Another strong performance by Pete Cetera. I'm glad that we're all able to enjoy these classic Chicago songs...thnaks!

  • Peter's great in this one. He really looked like he was enjoying himself. Great performance

  • This song brings back memories of my first husband who used to sing this song to me all the time. Ended up he didn't mean a thing he was sayin. Its history and he's dead now anyway, but I still like the song.

  • You used arsnic huh?

  • He remarried, lived his life on the edge, and then he died, end of story.

  • Cetera is so casual in this. Happy Man was my first slow dance.

Our copy band did this song, and when I saw him sing it on "Mean while back at the Ranch" with Diane by his side - I thought wow he's singing it to his babe.

That is cool how they changed it up at the end.

  • Pete always was a strong vocalist live! Not many singers can sing in tune the way he can...

  • You rock, Pete. Noneone does it like you. XXOO

  • Es una cancion preciosa, me encanta como la interpreta cetera, magnifico cantante.

  • He seems to be in a magical world.

  • Cetera at the top of his game here!

  • Fantastically inspired. I love this song.

  • Pete is one of the finest rock/pop vocalists of my generation. It's a shame that this band in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame!

  • I love this song

  • Peter is in amazing voice here, and this is one tough song to sing.

  • I love this song..

  • 1000 times better than that fuckface Jason Scheff singing PETERS song!!!

    someone ought to off Scheff!!

  • That would mean it is 1,000,000 times better than you singing it.

  • Is it true Peter Cetera became a born again Christian just before he left Chicago?

  • Austra-he had a Catholic upbringing & "almost" joined the clergy. Many of the band members who played on his last album are from Gospel/Christian groups. Currently, Kim Keyes (Amy Grant's backup singer) is touring with pC, she is Christian. There "is" an influence there!

  • @whitetrash33

He also obviously had a big hit duet with Amy Grant herself, which is why people assume Cetera became a born-again. But he didn't.

Danny Seraphine, on the other hand, I wonder about.... I mean, Drummers for Jesus? Really, Danny?

  • How can Pete be so brilliant and dead on here, yet other times he sounds flat and off key? In fact, during live shows, the whole band was either dead on, or way off.

  • Chicago always toured constantly. I think sometimes they were just burned out and tired.

  • Peteer Cetera...what a voice and style. I hear his daughter Claire is carrying the torch for the family now too.

  • Prof Bus MY prof Bus thanks bb L U 2

  • I want to dedicate this song to Pearl Morenita, from her Prof Bus

  • I've always liked this song; now I see it in the overall context of Pete Cetera's move toward balladry. It's certainly a worthy addition to the GH Vol. 2 set.

  • Truly incredible

  • Peter really seemed to enjoy singing this song, and then to update it on his One Clear Voice album. His voice really stands out in this video.

  • My jaw dropped on the floor in the 2006 tour when Lee Loughnane came out and sang this.

  • lol, wonder how that was...

  • @freelancer28

Not bad. Obviously he did *not* do it in Peter's key.

  • just noticed.. Peter's punk rocker look seems way ahead of his time!lol

  • Peter seems to always be ahead of his time when it comes to sytle and talent. This is a wonderful song.

  • Peter is definitely a pure romantic

  • This video is from the concert that was broadcast on "On Subscription TV" here in L.A. in 1979. It was an awesome concert.

  • Great video..! This has got to be one of my all time favorite songs. Thanks for posting and keep them coming...!

  • Great Stuff!!!

  • Yes, totally underrated... So sad that just because Peter Cetera wrote this other Chicago fans automatically reject it...

  • God do I love this song....Very underrated

  • The sound quality was awesome on that! Would love to see more if you have any more from that concert.

  • hey there thanks for putting in ur comment! ive just stuck up two more, streetplayer and aloha mama.
