  • Bill Monroe was all about the downstrokes!

Whom do you think Chuck Berry learned from??

  • Yes sir, Bill did a good number of downstrokes, giving his music that aggressive and sometimes bluesy sound. Good playing, hadn't heard that break in quite some time!

  • Thanks for the comment.

I find downstrokes very difficult at speed but you're right, it does rock it along. I notice a lot of players don't use downstrokes at all even when playing tunes like Bluegrass Stomp! Doesn't quite sound right.

  • Right...it's easier to play it alternating upstroke-downstroke, but it doesn't give the song that Monroe feel :-)

  • A///A///D///D/// A///A///E///E/// A///A///D///D/// A///E///A///A/// I hate to see that sun sink low Just for a cause you ought to know For it's true love I can't forget All my sorrow you'll soon regret There's dishes to wash and a house to clean There's washing to do, oh it seems so mean There's millions of words I can't explain Think of this girl before you change your name.
