Their one ofthe fiew good bands out there still (along with Babyshambles), this end of decade has seen Franz Ferdinand decline artisticly and so many others after their debut albums... But Midnight Boom is a brilliant album!

Whether they are contrived or posers or cliches or whatever, they have got such such a great fcuking sound. I discovered that long before i saw what they looked like. Anyone remember Jennifer from Royal Trux? you can see exactly where she's ripped people off. The Kills is basically Royal Trux with all the interesting bits removed, more poppy, with a "rock fashion" image to sell it to gullible kids.

I disagree, I think too many people like to compare her to Jennifer citing menial similaries that just make them sound uninformed. I'm sorry, but I see no similarities between their styles except that Alison and Jennifer are both female lead singers with long hair. Sure they may live in the same vein of punk-rock, but that's like saying Jeff Healey ripped of Stevie Ray Vaughan.

indie is independent music, but recently it's become really trendy and corporations everywhere are using it to be cool, which makes it no longer independent. (see: ipod commercials)

No I think it was more about how during post punk days (late 1970s) people started labels like factory records by themselves without major label support but now you have alot of these labels basically just under 50% owned by major labels and all their products distributed by the major labels. In this case it isn't really an independant music label anymore, it's just part of the major label.

This is the way the world works kids. Whatever you love, there is some corporation out there that will find a way to sell it back to you. It's always going to happen, but it's very sad that the "industry" has become so concerned with sales that a band like the Kills, with a degree of artistic merit are, resorting to Gossip Girl Promos in order to get greater exposure so the label will make money.

If losing indepedence in the music scene means the moment a band or musical duo is signed to a record label, or the moment they make money for what they create in my eyes means there is no such thing as an indie music scene. But that is ridiculous, indie is any deviation from the norm or the usual or the popular.
