that's the bad thing about being successful... you suddenly can afford to do coke on a regular basis. and then those mean bugs come. say hello to delusional parasitosis.
hey! their music sounds more like life than Arctic Monkeysd and especially Editors.... Their one ofthe fiew good bands out there still (along with Babyshambles), this end of decade has seen Franz Ferdinand decline artisticly and so many others after their debut albums... But Midnight Boom is a brilliant album!
people who click on vids by the kills simply to moan or cry 'poseurs' or who try to slag them off for being contrived or copyists or whatever...just fuck off. you are wrong and hell is your record collection you fucking inverted snob wankers.
no matter what they wore someone would say that they are trying to pose or capitalize off of it. sometimes people just like dressing a certain why. dont penalize their music or talent for it. there is nothing new under the sun. everything done has been done before or has roots in something else.
(Cont. from last post) If a great band can do a little more to ship a few extra units to be able make a living doing what they love, i think it's a good thing.
Whether they are contrived or posers or cliches or whatever, they have got such such a great fcuking sound. I discovered that long before i saw what they looked like. So at the end of the day who gives a fcuk. Anyone who wants to point the finger at people being too pop, too cliche, too fashionable. That's the industry i.e. music press, labels etc. Who the hell gives a shit if a band wants to be a little more fashionable or whatever.
If an artist or a band are good, they are still good regardless if their songs appear on Coca Cola commercials or any type of commercial for that matter.
i agree. that dude IS an alright guitar player, though. but Mosshart is the biggest rock'n'roll poser cliche. Anyone remember Jennifer from Royal Trux? you can see exactly where she's ripped people off. The Kills is basically Royal Trux with all the interesting bits removed, more poppy, with a "rock fashion" image to sell it to gullible kids.
if you're so annoyed by this then why do you post so many comments about her being a poser? on loads of videos i've seen loads of vids with you moaning all of the time!
I disagree, I think too many people like to compare her to Jennifer citing menial similaries that just make them sound uninformed. I'm sorry, but I see no similarities between their styles except that Alison and Jennifer are both female lead singers with long hair. Sure they may live in the same vein of punk-rock, but that's like saying Jeff Healey ripped of Stevie Ray Vaughan.
"I mean, they both played blues! They both were white guys! How does that NOT make sense?!"
Yet what is more irritating? Guys like these or the corporations trying to find an angle so they can capitalize it, make their money and in doing so kill the spirit?
you're right, except for one thing - they're not good, they're extremely shit. sadly, the most 'interesting' thing about bands today is the way they look AND THAT IS FUCKING SAD.
I just think you should be able to like what you like, and you shouldnt think that you have to live up to an image or anything. If you love a bad whether they are "indie" or not is up to you.
i think especially in germany the kooks are the best example for teens wanna be cool. maybe hard to explain... i hate all the youth talking about" indie"
The kills hit me as a remarkably fake band with a few good songs. I mean the guys dating a bloody supermodel for god sake. They just decided on an image that went with their lack of technical and songwriting ability (which they themselves admit). Their a stage act and they carry there stage persona into these interviews. Whats more is they are living in the past I saw an interview were he was whining about how great the late 1960s were in New York. They ain't trying to do anything now.
indie is independent music, but recently it's become really trendy and corporations everywhere are using it to be cool, which makes it no longer independent. (see: ipod commercials)
No I think it was more about how during post punk days (late 1970s) people started labels like factory records by themselves without major label support but now you have alot of these labels basically just under 50% owned by major labels and all their products distributed by the major labels. In this case it isn't really an independant music label anymore, it's just part of the major label.
ANYBODY who bad mouths jamies statement here need theyre heads checking. its about fucking time the artists come back to music, and if you disagree with that...your a cunt.
mate, hes looked like that since he started the band in 2000 before anyone knew who doherty was. i find it so hard that a band made of true artists get slated by people like you. its fuckin madness. go listen to the kooks mate, leave art to the artists.
ausome mate, ausome. You know what music is about, my friend Come see our myspace. "The Desasterz" from the 5th of Janurary we will have proper recordings. Yes this is a comertial coment, but theres no money for us in Myspace. We just want to be listened to and make our statements, including a song about the NME "its called "Back To Basics" need I say moor?? its great seing someone who knows what music is really about.r u an artist urself?
ill check it out mate, yea i am, in a band at the minute called "the jet boys" search it on myspace or sumthing. where abouts you from? good job to see others thinking the same, its encouraging! x
This is the way the world works kids. Whatever you love, there is some corporation out there that will find a way to sell it back to you. It's always going to happen, but it's very sad that the "industry" has become so concerned with sales that a band like the Kills, with a degree of artistic merit are, resorting to Gossip Girl Promos in order to get greater exposure so the label will make money.
If losing indepedence in the music scene means the moment a band or musical duo is signed to a record label, or the moment they make money for what they create in my eyes means there is no such thing as an indie music scene. But that is ridiculous, indie is any deviation from the norm or the usual or the popular.
Despite Gossip Girl in all it's frothyness it appears to be in the books, it is rather slick on TV. The Kills give it a bit of a roughing up or an edge as it were.
THANK you!

Shameless hipsters like these assholes have no right to talk about "the gentrification of London" and "lame jingle jangle music."
Their aesthetic is recycled (and insincere) and any possible talent they might possess is canceled out by their pseudo-bohemian ethos.
Selling out? Gentrification? I guess we'll pretend that Nylon interview never happened.
They're pretty good, but so fucking irritating.
