These workers are to fill specialty positions when this talent cannot be secured from the local labor pool. Employers are not required to advertise the positions and are given a legal means to discriminate against U.S. workers. Right now, we should not issue and not renew another H-1B visa.

Why anyone thinks there should be a limit on H1B visas is baffling. Look, the economy is not going to go south with management replacing all of its skilled workers with foreigners just b/c we remove caps or extend caps on these visas. It doesn't happen that way! The economy can move more easily to equilibrium if you let management hire the right amount of H1B workers, rather than some phony cap. 65,000 is a FRACTION of the amount of skilled workers from india and china who want these jobs.

@whoo689 It's not 65,000 jobs. In 2008 the U.S. brought in 195,000 workers from India and 115,000 from England alone according to U.S. DHS and DOL documents. That's 215,000 workers per year. Over ten years that's 2 million workers and that's not even counting L-1 or O visas. The IT sector only has a few million jobs, not 150 million. A few years and guess who gets all the IT jobs? Not Americans - who created the industry.

Following what appears to be a national trend among airlines, United made the plunge a few months back, and now Delta is planning to ins ource all of their call centers.
According to a record message sent to employees from Delta CEO Richard Anderson, call centers in India have already been closed, and that call centers in Jamaica and South Africa will be closed eventually.

If you have been paying attention to history you would note that we have been slowing disarming since 1993 and have not been "ramping back up" since.
On 9/11 we didn't even have two fighters stationed within 1 hour of NYC at Mach 2. The intercept planes had to come from Connecticut which were too late. If we can't intercept 2 airliners within one hour with our military, I don't think we stand a chance against 5 different countries all attacking us at once.

The U.S. is not legally required to issue or extend a single H-1B visa. The USCIS states that H-1B visas are a 3 year visa (total stay limited to 6 years) for temporary, nonimmigrant workers. These workers are to fill specialty positions when this talent cannot be secured from the local labor pool. Employers are not required to advertise the positions and are given a legal means to discriminate against U.S. workers. Right now, we should not issue and not renew another H-1B visa.

We later found out the plans were generated at a call center that collects on Capitol One Cards. In a small room in the back they had two guys who would rotate shifts doing "Architecture" drawings. If we would have built the building we would have been sued for at lear 5 million. I warned against it from the start. I had to redo the whole thing so it cost us 2-3 times as much!!

As for doing real research, I lived and worked in Silicon Valley for 16 years. I was DRIVEN OUT by foreign workers but not because they asked me to TRAIN them. Apparently after I left, they couldn't do the work because California econ is now collapsed and state is going broke because turd world workers couldn't keep it going as promised. Clearly foreign workers are the problem because before they got here (1998) Americans were making the econ boom. Historical FACTS don't lie.

hmm, I will have to disagree with you, I am a white American who work for a software company. and we hired couple of Indians. I tell you,oh Boy! they make me look like I am a slacker.
They work their ass off to meet the project deadline.
They are very easy going immigrants. No drug dealing, no gansta, very peace loving and they want to easily mix with our own culture.

How are we supposed to get the U.S. econ back on track? Simple: deport the TEMPORARY guest workers who were SUPPOSED to go home after the boom and give those jobs back to Americans who will spend their paychecks here. It's easy. In 1998 when all this started the deal was the guest workers would go home after the boom. They are still here and still exporting America's wealth. That's the real cause of the econ problem.

If foreign workers are so brilliant then where is the Microsoft or Apple of India and China? Where is the Indian operating system? It doesn't exist. As for billions of western workers ruining the U.S. economy, how can that be? It's not Americans who are working now - it's millions of cheap IMPORTED workers who are working in USA. Americans are unemployed. So you can't say it's western workers who are causing the problem. 80% of the U.S. population was born here.

No MS in India? What have you been smoking. MS opened a huge R&D center in India a few years ago to work on VISTA. And look at the mess they made of that. As for America attracting foreign talent, that talent appears to not be so good at keep America or the world econ going. Up until 1998 IT was 98% white American males and the U.S. econ was booming. Just as Japanese are the best carmakers, Americans are the best software makers.

Foreigners represent 95% of USA's population? Now that's a real good one. Currently foreign born in US are only 20%. In 1998 it was 10%. The facts don't lie - as we admit more foreigners, our economy declines.
IT was the last big engine driving U.S. econ. Up until we started letting foreign workers in in 1998 it was all Americans. So Indians may only be 1.5% of U.S. population, but in IT they are 90%. And they have killed that industry because they can't do the work.

My parents were born in USA. So were my grandparents. Funny, but during their lives we had nothing but economic booms except for 1973, 1990, and 1998-present - all 3 eras in which USA was flooded with mass immigration.
