I'm a self-taught guitarist (3+ years of playing now) and i use thumb over neck technique 80% of the time. Thats just how it feels comfortable for me for some chords. Some of my friends just look at me like: WTF are you doin with your thumb... i tell 'em thats the way i (and hendrix) do it :P btw i didn't copy him ^^
