I use debian Lenny, it was installed by booting of dvd my old way of installing debian in text mode. That is helpful to those who cant install debian.

Debian is a 'distro' of an OS know as GNU/Linux commonly referred as Linux and yes it can be used on intel hardware and in many other platforms.

That's more network speed, that install downloads the files it needs then starts a network install. It'd fly on an 8 Meg connection.
