@crip23walk23 yeah a guy who fought a who's who's list of MMA legends no matter their size advantage and beat most of em. and throughout his whole career always fought to finish whether he won or lost. that's a pussy alright lol.
an incredible win. and to think afterwards, they hug each other. after galesic pounded sakuraba's face to steak, and saku snapped galesic's knee. true warriors' honor and spirit!
The difference between Saku and Shogun is that Saku is willing to risk it all for a win and close out a fight. Shogun didn't want to end the fight with Machida because he didn't want to "expose myself and enter into Lyotos game."
i didn't see the shogun/machida fight so i can't comment on that fight, but it seems that's what Machida does in every fight. He only has entertaining fights when his opponent is willing to press the action. Much like Anderson Silva he's seems content to coast to wins when he's fighting an overwhelmed opponent. doesn't like taking risks.
Well his record would say he tends not to finish fights but if you google those fights and watch them you see that he does try to finish his opponents. However, the Shogun fight was the first 5 rounder I've seen and he did tire in rounds 4, 5 so I'm say that carido was his only problem in that fight otherwise he wouldn't have been in any trouble IMO.
whenever i see his fights he never seems to try and finish unless his opponent is pressing the action. I've never really seen him press the action much. That being said he does have amazing talent.
galesic is stupid. when you face a guy like sakuraba, instead of punching him like a dumb, he should have protect his ankle and his knee. if they are broken now, it's only his fault. a submission isn't a joke, the goal of a submission is to break an articulation. Galesic has to understand that otherwise, he should retire.
i wouldn't exactly call Guy Mezger a know nothing. obnoxious yes, but not a know nothing lol. seems he called the fight like he would fight it (diff style of fighter). as i said he would have abandoned the lege a long time ago. course that means he wouldn't have pulled of that sub either lol.
lol yeah, you have a point--I was referring more to the other guy, but both get on my nerves. Actually letting go of the leg was a legit option, but Saku obviously felt he had the sub--looks like he was right. Sure paid for it though.
hehe yeah personally i'd love to see dream being Stephen Quatros and Bas Rutten back together. I think Saku might have also be worried if he lets go of the leg it gives Galesic a strong position to land those strikes too. He took some good punches but Galesic couldn't generate as much power with his leg twisted under Saku's body like that.
"Stephen Quatros and Bas Rutten back together." The good old days! Yeah, I think besides Saku believing he had the sub, he also was holding on for dear life because he didn't want to go back to stand up or get mounted & pounded. Lucky for Saku Galesic isn't a sledge-hammer. But Saku can take it & is willing to do so to win. If he keeps this shit up he'll be taken out on walks by a fat old home attendant, whilst wearing a helmet by the end of his career.
i have a feeling he wants to go out on his shield like that. either way when he's 80 and wearing that helmet he'll probably tap out that fat old home attendant too lol
meh he lets go as soon as he tapped, maybe zelg should've tapped earlier. we can't really say saku intentionally broke his leg, he let go as soon as he tapped.
If I were Saku, I would have quite at the first snap of Galesic knee..... I love Saku but I thing as a legend he is, he should have tapped to save Galesic's leg.. Thats how a legend should act.... I dont think if Galesic would be able to recover from this injury......
i hope Zelg is able to recover. Never want to see anyone injured to the point they lose their career. But it was on him to tap. He should have tapped when his ankle snapped, long before the knee.
That makes no sense at all...Shit happens in MMA all the time...People are injuring themselves most of the time in training....A lot of guys fought with a broken nose or even hand and managed to make it till the end of the fight and even winning it....
Galesic leg got broken only when he taped, if it was already broken before the sub, he would have already screamed of pain so Saku and the ref did the right thing...
Dude, a broken nose is different from a knee joint twisted in three different directions..... If you listen to Galesic's post fight interview, he himself said that he heard the snap in the beginning. I just remember when Saku called the ref. during the Renzo fight when he had broken his arm but renzo wouldnt tap
The fight was not stopped simply cause Sakuraba had Galesic's leg locked on for minutes and the ref decided to see if Saku had a chance to get the sub , so basically Saku decided to NOT protect himself from the shots to the head FOR keeping his hands on the potential submission of Zelg's leg and ended up doing so , totally breaking it and getting the amazing sub win .
Exactly, as long as you're defending yourself properly, or going for something, the fight should not be stopped until you are either out cold or give up and lie defenseless. Saku was attempting a submission the entire time he was getting punched, so it's obvious he was able to withstand the punishment and the fight could go on. Simple as that.
Saku is a real fighter! Not a pussy and quitter like Forrest Griffin and BJ Penn.
In UFC, this fight would have ended in the opposite. The UFC ref would have called it after two of three punches to Saku's head. In Japan, referees are more professional and don't call prematurely.
Ehh... honestly only reason plausible for it not being stopped was Galesic's leg still being hooked (by Sakuraba's leg) but not in a way where it looked like Galesic was using his leg to hook Sakuraba's to keep him from escaping the beatdown.
War BOTH of them; Sakuraba for pulling it out (would have been a late stoppage... but in fairness, Sakuraba DID pull it out), and Galesic for immediately spinning through the first leglock attempt to take Sakuraba's back.
it'd only have been stopped if the ref didn't know what he was doing. It's pretty obvious Saku was working subs the whole time. A good ref like this one would give the fighter the chance to finish or be finished. In this case it was Saku finishing the fight.
This was a bit like Sakuraba's fight against Kestutis Smirnovas at Hero's. Sakuraba was practically out cold through the ropes but somehow came back and won the fight! He is a living legend for MMA and this was proof he'll still be around for some time to come! No disrespect to Zelg either those were some mean punches!
That's why American refs need to let the fight go longer. He was still intelligently defending himself and in the end managed to get the sub. Steve Mazagati could've learned something from this instead of stopping the fight as Rothwell got to his feet. If that was Sakuraba in that position, he would've KO'd Steve. Nothing is worse than having a fight stopped early. Especially when you know you're not in any trouble.
You totally misunderstood. I'm a fan of Sakuraba. He's been through worse. I know that's his style. Not a very safe one, but it works for him. I was agreeing with the decision of the ref. One of the reasons I prefer Japanese MMA, because of the refs. Japanese refs are just like that. They will let the fight go on until the very end. Kharitonov vs Overeem 1 comes to mind and many others. You should calm down interwebs warrior.
if anyone is being stupid is the guy being locked. His foot was almost completely the wrong direction and should have escaped first. Saku is a strong guy and was willing to take some shot for the submission - its not like he was out or wasn't trying a move or defending. If the guy escaped, he would have not been caught in the kneebar.
Sakuraba has incredible heart. He never surrenders. But I don't think it's a good strategy to take so many punches. If he wouldn't have gotten the submission Galesic would have beaten him to Nirvana.
Sakuraba is a living legend... what a submission just unbelievable he pulled it off.. i would love if he went to the UFC anf fought Couture.. the greatest UFC fighter of all time against the biggest star of japan.. that would be a fight to behold!!
This is a combat sport. I'm sick of people acting like fighters shouldn't be allowed to take a few punches to the face. These guys are PRO's, too many refs threat these guys like amatuers that need to be protected.
Bad refs look to stop the fight at the first sign of trouble. Good refs look to let the fight go as long as possible.
If you knew anything about Sakuraba, you'd know he was far from dead. The guy can take a heck of a beating if it means getting hold of an arm or leg to win the match. Saku wasn't defending his head, but he wasn't letting go of the ankle either meaning he was still very much in the fight. Good call by the ref letting it go on until Saku finished.
Stupid? Saku won the fight so how was the ref. stupid? It would have been stupid to stop it if he was showing signs of not defending himself. The stoppage of cain vs. rothwell last night was stupid. Rothwell was standing up and was fine and the ref. stops it when he is not even getting hit.
It's called saving a fighter's integrity dumbass, and it's well known Japanese referees are much more lenient with Sakuraba, while if it had been another fighter the fight would have ended much quicklier. Have you even seen his fight with Manhoef or Ricardo Arona before talking shit you idiot?? The guy is gonna suffer from side effects of such beatings in his later years, that's for sure. But you don't give a fuck obviously.
Sakuraba was perfectly fine. He was still defending himself intelligently, not letting go of the leg until he got the submission. If he wasn't defending himself he would have let go of the leg and just lied there.
Yeah getting pounded for 10 secs without doing anything is defending yourself intelligently? You probably as intelligent as Sakuraba's defense, dumbass.
watch the fight. he was workin the sub the entire time. and at one point covers up with the right hand while working the sub with the left. Obviously he was intelligently defending himself. he left the fight with a lil bit of bruising and swelling. Galesic left the fight with a broken ankle and knee.

Saku is one of the nicest guys in mma history.
The guy is not there to injure anyone but to win a fight.
This is mma people not curling or badmington, shit happens, it's a war and you need to do anything to make your opponent tap....
So in this regard, Saku did the right thing, it was up to Galesic to tap earlier or looking for protecting his leg more....
How many times fighters broke their arm, hands or nose in a fight ? It's mma and Saku and the ref did the right thing.

Stupid biased referee, any other fighters would have gotten the TKO, but since it's Sakuraba, the referee let him get pounded for more than 20 secs.

But you don't give a fuck obviously.

so you would rather they stop figts ealier so the ref can determine who wins instead of the fighters skill

Sakuraba was perfectly fine. He was still defending himself intelligently, not letting go of the leg until he got the submission. If he wasn't defending himself he would have let go of the leg and just lied there.

Yeah getting pounded for 10 secs without doing anything is defending yourself intelligently? You probably as intelligent as Sakuraba's defense, dumbass.

as intelligent as sakurabas defense, that shows your true knowledge of mma, go back to watching ufc you dana white fan boy fagget

watch the fight. he was workin the sub the entire time. and at one point covers up with the right hand while working the sub with the left. Obviously he was intelligently defending himself. he left the fight with a lil bit of bruising and swelling. Galesic left the fight with a broken ankle and knee.

Spot On. And the injury is anything but intentional, Saku was looking to win an mma fight, not injure someone else here.

Sakuraba showed excellent submission skills in this fight. For a moment I thought Sakuraba was out. A nice win for the legend Saku.
