@Amiieox, the "No Irish need apply" thing never actually happened in the United States. This was adapted from a British version that was about a war widow who is looking for work.
My dad and great grandfather are from Ireland, we don't learn about this in school, all we learn about is the civil rights movement, I'd love to learn about MY heritage for once !

It makes for a good drinking song. Other versions of this song have the Irish lad flying into a rage and beating up the guy who put up the sign saying "No Irish Need Apply." It is common for ethnic groups to have myths of victimization.

Already done, i subbed when I first found it. Thanks for the reply, Tal. David Kincaid has some excellent American Civil War Irish songs. I cannot recommend them highly enough. The same goes for Chieftains, Clancy Bros. and Wolfe Tones.
