  • I love the girl who screams !

  • OH MY GOD

  • This remake is pretty bad ass!

  • I don't hold my cello in between my legs like that 0.o

  • I do believe these lovely ladies opened for Manson in DC many years ago. Was pretty awesome to see

  • I think she kicked .... here!

  • DAMN good

  • What a concept

  • Hey Krodnid, you need to go in and adjust the "Audio Settings" on your camcorder. This sound is painfully bad.

    Fine music, though...

  • this is so awesome :D

  • This video is great I had no means to flag this I'm on my iPod touch lol

  • i love this song and this band.

  • this group is amazing live, they opened for primus in toronto a few years ago, and they surprised a lot of people with their songs. worth seeing live if you ever have a chance

  • I saw Rasputina do this song at Mr. Small's Theater in Pittsburgh PA. I'll never forget it! The cellos sounded like thunder, you could feel the sound on your chest like a hurricane! Barracuda, what a song. Melora and Zoe, goddesses in human form.

  • thanks

  • I will make this very simple. Music is my drug of choice. Also check out all girl cover band of Led Zep called Lez Zeppelin, Ween and Cake. And if you are playing and break a string, remember dont fret.

  • BEAUTIFUL!!!! ill indulge you....

  • Pwerful. Like listening to am radio, and apocaliptica at the same time.

  • i love the song and..im in LOVE<3

  • AWESOME!!!!!!! =O

  • Wow this song would be hard to play...

  • @mortisha96 can you imagine her playing for a whole 2 hours? it looks totally exhausting! but sooooo good !

  • Playing and singing amazing!

  • REAL

  • I hate that fucking girl who screams @ 2:12

  • I think it's appropriate for that moment, actually. It seems like it belongs.

  • @xBeautifulxLiarx I laughed when I heard it for the 100th time.

  • @xBeautifulxLiarx

i thought the band did the screech on one of their cellos. it's my favorite part of the video i don't care where where it came from (or the 2:55 'Yaaa.')

  • Favorite cover of this song, I love Rasputina, they can do no wrong. Except take too long to release Sister Kinderhook, I'm dying of anticipation, hahaha

  • hells yeah! i love this

  • This band so pwns hahah.

  • Does anyone know how to contact them for a gig? We have a venue here in Odessa, Texas that would THRIVE on them! If you have ever heard of Spoonfed Tribe, they play here a LOT! I would love to tell the owner of the venue about this band! Oh yeah, this is one of those small clubs that Staind, Ted Nugent, and Three Days Grace has played recently.

  • They actually have a website... I'd try there...

    Rasputina[dot]com

  • WOW watching her play that is amazing!!

  • you may enjoy scrap gold's rendition

  • i saw them open for legendary pink dots (i think) and they played this.

  • You are SO lucky! I'm going to have to watch "Repo! The Genetic Opera" again just to hear them playing the background music!

  • Omg! I didn't know Rasputina played the background music in Repo! Omg omg omg omg!! thanks! I love you!!!!!

  • Mostly forgotten women composers from long long ago? is she high!!!! Ann and Nancy Wilson are still very much active in the music industry

  • It was a joke

  • It was sarcasm

  • I like

  • I thought her cello playing was amazing, and to adapt it to such a classic song is even more so amazing.

  • Bravo to Rasputina! They are beautiful and so is their music!!!!!

  • God forbid people broaden their horizon of the music that can be played with classical instruments. They're singing isn't their best (I love Rasputina so it's not a matter of me not liking them) but I think the fact that they took a classic rock song and played it on beautiful orchestral instruments is brilliant.

  • i know! their cover of led zeppelin's rock n roll is awesome too.

  • Have you heard Apocolyptica? Four men, three cello players and a drummmer doing Metallica!!! They ROCK!!! And they play backup for Rammstein!

  • that was apocalypticas first album. in 1995. And they played for cellos and no drums on the first album.

  • your spelling embarrasses the english language

  • I would KILL for a studio version of this!!

  • they are so artsy

  • i love her version!

  • needs more cowbell  ............ :)==

  • awsome

  • did they start before apocalyptica?A very unique style lol but like it

  • rasputina was founded in 1992, Apocalyptica published their first CD in 1996...

they have both their own style and both are great!

  • apo's good but lets remember they started out as a cover band, then they started writing their own stuff. Rasputina debuted with unique and original material.

  • That bad pun being out there I must say that truly pwerful music hits me in the heart No pun intended and this moves me to tears that so few people have the capacity or knowledge to appreciate it.. It is pure genius

  • Their extensive output of original material aside, they *do* have a wonderful way with covers, often tweaking the lyrics in subtle ways that add volumes of depth, or make the intent more accessable. Check out their cover of Manson's "Tourniquet" sometime. Unfortunately, they don't do it live, so there is no video of it that I know of.

  • There's always room for cello

  • hahahahaha!!!! :0)

(double thumbs up on that one!)

  • i've never wanted to be a Cello so bad in my life..

  • rasputina

    love~

  • I love her music but the only problem i have is i dont like the vocals very much but i like the fact that it makes her group unique. good band :)

  • I think this is one of the best songs from Rasputina.

  • this song wasn't by Rasputina.

It was by HEART. She's just doing a cover of the song.

  • Great version of a true classic.

  • So awesome, made the song yours :)

  • her voice is so intriguing! i love it.

  • lol I was waiting for 2:15 and the scream before it gave me goosebumps x_x

  • rude muthafucka. It's not a cello race, it's a cello democracy, where cello love can spread across the land.

  • Amen to that!! :)

  • LOL! I'm a Cello democrat.

  • Simply amazing. The original is great, but this cover is rock solid.

  • That was strangely very cool. I'd never heard of them before, but I'll look for more vids now. That instrumental section starting round 2:15 actually gave me goosebumps.

  • This music makes me think about what's good about bad, and what's bad about good; but only in a preternatural, yet positive way.

  • lol, this rocks!!

  • thiws is siiiiick

  • She's awesome live! I love this song!

  • Why compare Britney to the likes of Rasputina? There is no comparison possible. The widest, and abysmally wide, difference between the two is talent. Now if Rasputina could get an expert marketing system and an agent who will leave their talent alone to mature, we might hear Rasputina on pop radio. Gods know they deserve it far more than that overinflated Britney Spears deserves it.

  • the girls are always fun when they play, she makes so many off-the-wall comments and tells such great stories. lots of fun to see 'em live!

  • wtf was that scream at 2:12

  • shes so cute when she talks so fast

  • Magic.

    Thanks KrodKnid.

  • RULES

  • melora is amazing. i love her monologues almost as much as her music, though.

  • totally agree

  • awesome! I love Baraccuda and I love what they did with it!

  • Awesome job girls!!

    Comment 100!

  • what a little child snit. I love her though.

  • You know who heart is and the two women in the band however, how many other people do. Right now, if you asked the youth of the world, odds are, they won't know who they are or even what they sound like. Rasputina is an underground band. Not suppose to be "Rockstars" and by no means should they be compared to a group as the such. Rasputina is a good band and so is Heart. As she said though, "Mostly forgotten," not totally forgotten. It happens in age, deal with it.

  • virusdarko,

    I guess I'm considered a "youth" but I love Rasputina ^^

On the contrary of others my age, I can't really stand the rap pop star predictable and overused crap that everyone else around me listens to.

But, mostly, you are right. Whenever asked to what I listen to, I usually say Rasputina.

The response I always get is either, "Who's that?"

    and "What?"

But I don't care. I've been a fan of Rasputina for a long time, now. They're beyond fantastic.

  • I saw these fine ladies and their hobo drummer open for Primus back in November 2006. Fact of the matter is guys, she has a quirky little rant before EVERY song. They have a humorous undertone, and I'm POSITIVE aren't meant to be taken seriously. Besides, Rasputina isn't exactly popular as it is, so few could forget them, though I highly doubt they will be forgotten. I'm certain, however, that projectdarkgrey's comment will be lost to the ages rather soon.

  • ShooopDaWooop,

lol That was just the best thing to say, I loved your comment.

I can't help but agree. Rasputina isn't extraordinarily popular, but those who do listen to the band won't forget them because they are so uniqe and different from the everyday songs that last for just about a year until it is tossed in the rubbish pile.

  • seriously? your acting like Heart is at the pulse of pop culture at the moment. Heart is a great band, and Rasputina is acknowledging that. The truth is people are forgetting about Heart, i mean their last hit was probably in the mid 80's. It doesn't matter if people remember who they are, it doesnt take away from their greatness, just like rasputina who are relatively unknown. no need to be angry!

  • Yeah, Im going to have to go ahead and sorta of disagree with you there

    over 30 million albums worldwide

Ranked #57 on VH1s 100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock. Heart was honored at the 2nd annual VH1 Rock Honors (24 May 2007)In addition to their own recording careers, they have played a key role on the Seattle music scene. Among the groups who have recorded at their Bad Animals studio are REM, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden & Candlebox(all of whom have cited Heart as a major influence)

  • What do album sales have to do with anything? britney spears sells many records.you may have missed the point in what she was saying. forgotten isn't necessarily an inuslt at someone's critical success. the industry is a sad thing. much talent goes unnoticed and the talent that is is most of the time left in the dust for new fads. as for guitar hero... that is one lame-ass excuse for renewing interest. heart is legendary, it's too bad modern minds dont appreciate it, unlike rasputina, who has.

  • I dont want to get far away from the original point i was trying to make. Rasputina is recognizing the success of Heart and also acknowledging the fact that Heart is being forgotten, which is a sad thing. It wasn't an insult. And Rasputina is not a D&D geek band at all. Nor do they want to explode in popularity. Rasputina does, however, sell out most, if not all, the venues the play at. They're sound is just not mainstreamly accessible, which is great. Alot of talent flies by under the radar.

  • O_O

    I don't even know any D&D geeks.

I bought my first Rasputina CD (only the second CD I'd ever purchased at that point) when I was 14, and am still a fan at 22. I'll remember them forever.

  • this is peachy.:)

  • oh i think i love her lol, and the rest of the band for that matter. xD

  • she is great!! playing her cello.....and composes with cello...waaahhhhh!!tnx..

  • Damn! This is cool

  • Time spent at the Sibelius Institute will definitely improve one's cello virtuosity...but where will they go to school to improve their sardonic intellect, black sense of humor, and keen insight into human folly...not to mention their vocal and songwriting skills.

  • Metal headz often miss out on Rasputina, since they fail to appreciate what is being presented due to it being not *heavy* enough on the musical side for their liking(songs like Possum of the Grotto and Leechwife are probably not their first exposure).

  • much better

no matter what they say xD

  • thanks, but I think I'll stick with Apocalytica

  • Specious *either/or* crap is nowhere...if you want to be that way, I'll stick with Boccherini. Fortunately I'm not that way, so I can enjoy Rasputina AND Apocalyptica:-)

  • You're right, I COULD. There are a ton of other groups that I enjoy in addition to Apocalyptica. This just doesn't happen to be one of them. And I really tried. I've been looking for other bands that use classical instruments to create new sounds. I like Break of Reality and The Diablo Swing Orchestra. I just didn't find this group to be all that good. That's all.

  • Try Naio Ssaion, The Changelings, Murder By Death...don't get me started.

  • Also check out some of the stuff Cream was doing with cello at the pre-metal stage of heavy rock (their bassist was a cello prodigy).

  • cool, will do. Thanks

  • This is awesome! What a great cover! I really love Rasputina... Wish I could play the cello.

  • Love Rasputina a lot <3

  • oww my ears!!!

  • hahaha i love melora's sarcastic humor.

  • this is to darkredskies cellos is not a word it is spelled celli cello is one celli is plural

  • It is celli in Italian...but if you look it up in an English dictionary, it is cellos.

  • Some classical snobs insist on everything being in Italian, like concerti instead of concertos, just because most great composers "of long long ago" used Italian directions in their sheet music, especially to denote tempos...er...tempi...and also because the *modern* violin family of instruments, among others, was originally concieved in Italy.

  • It also has something to do with the Catholic Church and with the tonal system of western music being worked out in Italy in the early days. For a long time operas had to be written in Italian even, no matter where you were from. At any rate, to INSIST on celli is like insisting that one must always refer to a *piano* as a pianoforte, which is its prrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrroppper name.

  • I say call a pianoforte a softloud if you want it in English, but one must still NEVER blow one's nose with one's fingers, what.

  • And...um...if you are going to lecture someone on proper language usage, you...er...*one*...should probably use proper capitalization and punctuation to lend credence to one's rant. But enough about this...darkredskies is right, those girls know how to rock the fuck out of those violoncelli.

  • P.S. This rant is not a diss...I have done the same exact thing before...I was wrong though:-)

  • madonna... è fantastico! ste ragazze sono dei manici! XD

  • God those girls know how to rock the fuck out of those cellos.

  • She should be playing this in Seattle...home of Heart

  • umm, she's definetly making a joke buddy.

  • Who is she kidding?? She says it's by two long forgotten women from long, long ago!! Hey, Ann and Nancy Wilson are still alive and kicking and performing and recording. Other than that dumb comment, they are certainly original. I don't care for her voice, but the arrangement and playing are quite good.

  • I think the "long forgotten women" comment was meant, as many things are with Rasputina, ironically - given Melora's probable age, this was probably a song she grew up with, right?

  • do you not understand the meaning of "sarcasm"?

    or "deadpan"?

thats her comedy style. what, do you live in a cave? - by the way, that was sarcasm

  • I'm so jelous, I know I'll probably never get to see them live.

  • Where do you live?

  • Australia, Sydney

  • Well, you'll just have to fly to London before tomorrow:-)

  • Time zones confuse me enough, but that would complicate things to a crazy magnitude :)

  • Well, at least they seem to be playing dates outside the USA now. Whatever complications prevented it in the past have been mitigated enough to allow it. So...they could play Sidney at some point....

  • I really hope so, they seem really underground so far. Getting their name up in Sydney would build them some Rep.

  • Way back in the mid 90s, when Napster was still running free, I got a cool Rasputina desktop wallpaper from an Australian guy who IMmed me via Napster while he was downloading their stuff from me...he made it at work while he was supposed to be working...hehehe. So anyway...they are not unknown down under.

  • haha well I did see a record in Target, I think anyway. Maybe they aren't as unknown as I thought. Their music is so weird and strange but yet beautiful. Can't get enough.

  • Yes it is. A lot of dark humor and keen insight into the human dilemma...plus cellos!

  • Do you happen to like Regina Spektor or Bjork?

  • Yeah...both of them. Regina just played here a few months ago...right down the street from me. I was working and missed it :-(

  • Ugh similar story for me, She was playing in the city and for some reason I didnt buy tickets. Retard. Bjork was supposed to perform at the Big day out, but she cancelled due to a sore throat! Bad luck rapes me.

  • I also missed Rasputina last time they played here, so the evil weenie of bad luck is not exclusive.

  • very creative way to make music.

  • It's ok, but she should work on her vocals some more for sure. Oh, and it always helps TO KNOW THE LYRICS. :)

  • i duno if its the graphics card or my eyes, but they looked like a pair of female pans...

  • great cover...poor quality tough, but still great

  • Everyone has their own opinion but no, this is not a joke. It's actually quite good and the cellos are great. I could imagine it would be pretty hard for someone to piece together a rock song into a dual cello remake. As for the breaking glass, what? For one, the recording is the best that I've seen for this song by Rasputina however it's still poor quality so it's true sound isn't heard. Rasputina's girls have great voices and they have something so many bands lack, talent.

  • The band is great you are just a little close minded and probably only listen to what MTV brainwash you with and is not a Violing thing is call a Cello

  • break glass? not exactly. and i really do think you shouldnt be saying anything involving the field of music because you have just called her a "bad singer" and that beautiful instrument something it is not. its a cello. and they play much better than you could possibly play.

  • its also on their album lost and found.

  • It isn't on The Lost and Found. That is a EP of 5 covers, and Barracuda is not one of them.

I forgot they put it on Radical Recital. For a long time the only copies of it were bootlegs from live shows.

  • yeah, it was on radical recital.

i remember before that cd came out, trying to find a version of it somewhere and not finding it anywhere.

i saw them play this live thrice.

  • you can find the song, it's on their album A Radical Recital.

  • This is great!!!

  • It isn't on any album, so MP3s of it aren't as easy to find as other songs. IM if you see me online and I'll AIM you the video if you like.

  • Cellists do it in a chair with their legs wide open.

    :|

  • There are those in the greater Rasputina community who refer to this activity as "chair sex".

  • So I was just looking for Rasputina videos and I couldn't help but wonder... Are you the KrodKnid from the Angry Psychos? That would make you all the more awesome. Oh, and thank you for posting this :D

  • I am the same KrodKnid:-) I have a Poe vid up here too.

  • i was there too.

    awesome show.

  • I was there!! :D what is up with the random scream?
