  • RIP Dan - you early go - we see you later...

  • Tengo 25 años naci en el 86 y me encanta Bonanza Siempre recordados.

  • ESTA SERIE BONANZA SIEMPRE LA RECORDAREMOS. Y SUS ACTORES.

  • legends have small graves i guess

  • I see Dan every days in my tv and my heart...

  • Thanks for posting.

  • hoss (Dan) was one of my childhood hero's, so sad to see that he died so young. RIP Dan

  • Funny though, whenever I think of Dan Blocker, I also think immediately of John Candy. They resembled each other a bit, I would say..

Geez, Dan Blocker passed away in 1972 .... seems so long ago! I remember hearing about that as a kid.

    RIP Dan

  • Thanks for posting, did you know that Dan Blocker played college Football there in West Texas before he went to Hollywood. I think he was from Van Horn, TX.

  • CURSE FINDAGRAVE4ALL ETERNITY.AMEN!BUNCH OF FAGS JIM AJ RUSS KATRINA TANYA N REST Who run it.DIE IN LONG PAIN SCUM.AMEN!

  • GOSH, WE NEVER EVEN TALKED ABOUT DAN B. AND I FEEL LIKE I KNOW YOU. TAKE CARE.

    TW

  • WELL AS YOU SAID 48 PLUS KIDS TO A CLASS. GUESS WHERE I SAT WITH A LAST NAME STARTING WITH W....AND POOR EYE SIGHT. LIKE I SAID, AFTER I SURVIVED THEM, THE WORLD WAS SWEET SWEET CAKE. I DID, AS AN ADULT REVISIT ONE OF THE CONCENTRATION CAMPS. I MUST CONFESS I MISSED THE PRIVATE TOILET OF THE PRIEST FOR ABOUT 95% OF THE EVACUATION...WISH I FELT BAD BUT IT STILL GIVES ME THE GIGGLES. THEY WOULD OF KILLED ME IF I HAD BEEN A STUDENT.

  • TOO FUNNY. THX FOR WRITING BACK. I'LL NEVER FORGET THE DAY WHEN THEY ANNOUNCED ONE OF THE NUNS HAD DIED WHILE WE WERE OUTSIDE DOING SOME KIND OF EASTER MARCH. I WAS IN 4TH GRADE AND WE ALL STARTED CHEERING. I'D SAY THEY HAD TORTURED US KIDS MINDS FOR THAT TO HAPPEN IN 1964. ALWAYS GREAT TO MEET A SURVIVOR. THEY USE TO HOLD ONE HAND AND MAKE US READ.IF WE STUMBLED ON A WORD THEY'D WHACK OUR LITTLE HANDS WITH A POINTER.. PLUS I HAD FAT FACE CHEEKS THEYCOULDNT PINCH THEM SO THEY JUST BEAT ME

  • Great actor.

  • I always associate Bonanza with having to go back to school after the weekend. On sunday night back in the old days kids would watch "The Wonderful World of Disney & Bonanza",,,,,,and when the ending credits and music theme from Bonanza played I would get all depressed, stomach flutters and nausea....because....the next day I had to face another 5 days of outright child abuse in the Catholic Schools till another weekend

  • @inkey2 I DON'T KNOW WHO YOU ARE BUT YOU WERE LIVING MY EXACT LIFE!!!!! FIGURED IF THE NUNS COULDN'T KILL US THE WORLD DIDN'T HAVE A CHANCE.

    THANKS,

    TIM WYNNE

  • @WILDHORSE466 LOL....yeah....didn't we have fun in those catholic schools.... over 48+ kids to a class (6 rows of 8 seats and desks "bolted to those dark, oiled, wood floors), the nausea of smelling warm tuna fish sandwiches, our lunches in a paper bag in the coat room. Being "marched to the bathroom in rows 2 times a day", being wacked off the back of the head for the slightest infraction, suits, ties, white shirts, polished shoes....hands perfectly folded on you desk.....wasn't that FUN????

  • I'm surprised that Hop Sing isn't there polishing the grave stone

  • @inkey2 DANG, THEY BEAT YOU GOOD TO COME UP WITH THAT ONE LINER.

    THANKS FOR THE FLASH BACKS

    TW

  • @inkey2 I'm sure any Chinese here would appreciate that remark.

Like the Chinese cook had no other life than polishing a tombstone

    the last 40 years.

  • @GooglFascists well would you have felt better if I said I'm surprised little Joe was not there polishing his stone? or Pa or Adam? I see that you have the need to interject "race" into this.

  • where is Ur given?

  • there R coins on the stone.block ..

    seems to me - unusual

  • Actually, Pernell Roberts has died and he was cremated.

  • @death2ur basically Pernell Roberts is not in a grave, his remains are with his family. I hope you know that was Michael Landon's ashes not body in his tomb. If Pernell's remains are gonna be buried, we don't know

  • @death2ur thank you for posting. Dan was an incredible man.

When I was a kid, I always thought of Dan as intimidating, when you realized who he was.

HE WAS A GENTLE GIANT. Dan was Gentle and Funny, so sad the US of A, lost another Great American :-(

  • @death2ur Pernell Roberts is Dead ?

  • Pernell Roberts is still around .

  • According to my family he is my 4th cousin.. RIP Dan...

  • @prettygirlswag007

so, how do U look like?

  • I loved the tv 'Bonanza' series.

    RIP gentle giant !!

    (London, England, Europe)

  • Thanks for letting us see this. I hope his son is still around, he used to be an

actor, but I haven't heard of him in years. I loved Bonanza.

  • I miss him! : (

  • poor hoss

  • Very interesting. It seems that Texas has more than its fair share of famous people buried in its cemeteries.

But why are Texas cemeteries all so bleak? Bad grass, no trees,, not inspired at all. Is it because of the climate there? I don`t think that state is known for its trees.

  • Dan was a great person and talent.

    We all miss him.

    George Vreeland Hill

  • I'd be sad but I am certain they are all in Heaven having a great time.

  • great actor. ahead of his time. to whoever took this video, dont say "big ASS man" at the end of the video. cant you respect a gravesite?

  • RIP Hoss

  • RIP OLD FRIEND MAY ALMIGHTY GOD BLESS YOU I LOVE YOU

  • It's 504 in dog years, not 10.

Seven per human year. Google it Edison.

Don't you hate it when you post your ignorance to 10's of thousands of people deliberately? ;)

  • interesting..thanks for posting

  • at least Dan Blocker is with his wife now.R.I.P Dan Blocker

  • Thank you for this. Dan Blocker was my great uncle, and I've never had a chance to visit his grave.

  • Is he buried next to a trailer park?

  • R.I.P.

  • I was a little (Dutch) boy when I watched Bonanza on our B/W screen and I remember my mothers favorite was Hoss. She now is 95 years old and still her eyes sparkle when I speak of him. He was either a very good actor or a dear man at heart. I prefer to think he was both... Rest in peace dear Dan.

  • thanks!!!

    hoss is my big friend

  • HOSS ! just plain old HOSS!

  • do u think u could do Pernell Roberts grave site?

  • @potatosandpickels Pernell was cremated. Sorry.

  • @death2ur o darn ok thx

  • @death2ur The urn's got to be somewhere.

  • @potatosandpickels I thought Pernell was still alive.

  • @titansful , No sadly Pernell Roberts died on January 24th 2010 of Cancer. he will be missed along with the rest of the Beautiful Bonanza cast. they are all gone now but forever in our heart they will stay.

  • i love Dan ( brasil)

  • Rest in peace Dan Blocker.

    You are a legend!!!!!!

  • you know it's funny coz I can't believe he's dead I grow up in Brasil watching it bonanza and I had a big crush on him, but sadly he died in the year I was born and all I can say now is I miss you Hoss big and hugable teddybear!

  • Great man of a golden heart, as a kid growing up, my two brothers and myself had the same mother different fathers, my youngest brother looks exactly like Hoss and my other brother whom is past away looked like little Joe as for me, look like just me, in my neighborhood they called us the Bonanza boys. always like Hopsing,, chop chop Mr. Cartwright. LOL

  • Seems all his family members died at a early age. But then again heart problems tend to run in the family.

  • We miss you , Hoss !

  • GREAT MAN

  • They should have engraved in the blank space "Hoss" or something to do with Bonanza !!

  • Wonderful tribute! Good job. God I thought he was great.....

  • I love Hoss he was such a gentle soul on Bonanza.

  • i always liked the cast of bonanza especially Dan Blocker i started to watch bonanza from day one and still do today i have every episodes on dvd and i had a brother that past in 2005 that was and looked like a tween of Dan and miss him like hell but i don't understand why hes laid to rest there not in a better place i miss that gentle giant hope to meet him some day rest in peace my friend

  • An uncle of mine passed away in 2007 and he looked very much like Hoass as well....

  • who was ora virginia?

  • Comment removed

  • We always love him

  • Someone as large as life like Dan and then seeing him reduced to little more than a cement headstone in a dusty old cemetery just seems wrong for some reason. I guess we will all get there some day too. really weird seeing this after watching him on Bonanza just a few minutes ago. It is hard to believe he passed away 37 years ago. Seeing his dusty wind blown resting place is odd too. He always seemed like such a nice man. I still think Bonanza is a great show. Simple and to the point.

  • My parents told me he held me when I was a baby when we were at Six Gun Territory near Silver Springs, Florida in 1961. My mom said people in the crowd thought it was cute that he was holding a little baby.

  • Only 44 years old? I watched him on a Western Movie - yesterday - and he "courted" Nanette Fabre! They made quite the couple and the movie had Mickey Rooney in it and so many many other movie stars! Dan Blocker played a Black Smith. And he had a scene with Mickey Rooney showing him how to fight. They difference in Height was staggering! And tryly funny. He seemed so kind and easy to get along with and the movie had a sweet ending. They don't make em like that much anymore!

  • @memama2, the movie you are referring to is "The Cockeyed Cowboys Of Calico County" which was originally made to be released to theaters, but premiered on television instead.

  • @vividwatch47 = THANK YOU! .....I had lost my TV Guide and could not remember the movies "Title".... those were the days! When you could all sit down as a family and watch a movie (in the theater) or at home and not be concerned about it's "content". Just a good story - with some laughs and ending with everyone clapping their hands and popping their popcorn bags! (my mom reminded us of this one) . Dan Blocker was such a Natural engaging character & talented actor in all his on screen roles. .

  • my family me my father and more 2 brothers of mine we were immitating them i was pernell my brother george o little joe , albert was dan blocker and it fantastic we fantasised ah sweet epoch never return anymore

  • I met Dan Block in 1968 at Northgate mall in El Paso, Texas. I was 7 years old. He was making an appearance with singer Buck Owens who was promoting a new album. Blocker dressed in his Bonanza attire, handed out candy to kids while Buck sang.

He patted me on the head and put candy in my hand and said in his big jolly voice, "there ya go, little fellar" and laughted. He was the biggest man I had

ever seen at that time. I was speachless.

  • I was 9, over 35 years ago when I met him. In fact, I almost forgot about this. He was visiting a friend of his. He drove around with guns in his trunk just to show to little kids like me. True story.

  • I'm watching this video for the first time and there is a Bonanza rerun airing on my tv in the other room... can hear Dan's voice... kind of weird.

  • rip big man

  • this is eerie in some part with the quiet wind blowing in the backround

  • He Was Great Actor I Always Remember

  • Some of my fondest childhood memories are of watching Bonanza. Hoss was my big teddy bear!

  • I know he's been gone for many years but this just fills me with sadness. My eyes are all watery now. Gosh I loved him! He was the greatest big man I ever knew (on t.v. of course).

  • I've been there too. And there were flowers there also. He still has many devoted fans.

  • Hoss is the man, especially in Texas!

  • What did Ora die from , 12 years old , way too young to die !!

  • I was wondering that also. Dan would have been 5 YO so he probably had only distant memories of her.

  • RIP Hoss Cartwright . You were always my favorite Bonanza character by far...

  • Foi um excelente ator,eu o admirava muito, nos filmes de "Bonanza"qdo eu tinha 13 anos de idade.Não perdia um filme dele.DEUS o abençõe,esteja onde ele estiver...

  • Thank you so much for posting this video. I loved Dan Blocker and always wondered where he was burried. Its nice to see he's burried with his family. I really appreciate this video, thanks again.

  • You are very welcome. It was our honor to visit his final resting place. We have come to realize that Dan Blocker was one of the most beloved actors in television history.

  • @pharmacyphrank Hey, he wanted to burried with his family. I wish they had put flowers on the little gir's grave. I think he would have loved that.

  • es un interesante video este de Dan Blocker

  • According to Wikipedia:

In 1972, Blocker died suddenly of a pulmonary embolism following routine gall bladder surgery in Los Angeles (essentially, a post-op blood-clot to the lungs).

  • Hoss was my favorite person in Bonanza RIP DAN You are in a better place now miss You very much

  • didnt one of the cast members in bonanza have op blood something to the lungs?

  • how did he die, and did he die early?

i must say, the thumbstone wasn't so pretty. so empty and sad, no name, drawings or sculptures or when he was born/died :S <3 rest in peace

  • He was in his early forties when he died. He died during surgery of a pulmonary embolism.

  • I remember when my family and I found out that Dan Blocker died. We were ALL devastated, as if he were a family friend, or even a family member. He was a year younger than my mother. We love you and miss you, Dan Blocker 1928-1972. R.I.P.

  • Hoss was my favorite person in Bonanza. I cried when he died and the whole world will miss him.

  • yes and to think he died for an elective surgery, i cried too

  • rip

  • I wonder if "Hop Sing" ever comes to visit

  • R.I.P. Lorne Greene, Dan Blocker, Pernell Roberts, Michael Landon, Victor Sen Yung and Ray Teal.

  • the town is O'Donnell

  • He died in May 1972 and the series was

cancelled in Feb. 1973. I think he passing

signaled the end of the show, it survived

Pernell Roberts leaving but Hoss was too important a character for the show to go

on without him and people turned away

    from it.

  • Some say the beginning of the end of "Bonanza" actually happend when N.B.C. cancelled "The Virginian" (revamped and retitled "The Men From Shiloh" for its final season) and "The High Chapparal" (from "Bonanza" creator David Dortort) during the rural purge of 1971. By the time of "Bonanza"'s 13th season, the ratings were already in a decline.

  • Dan Blocker was 6 f t 3 in.

  • I remember when he died..complications during stomach surgery I believe it was..

  • it's funny cause i past through a small town every morning with his picture. i think it's called o something i know it's between lubbock and lamesa. oh well if you know the town plz tell me. thanks

  • DeKalb, TX

  • I was in DeKalb two days ago and stopped to see Dan Blocker's gravesite. I wouldn't of known he was there if I didn't see this video, first. Thank you for posting this. Bonanza was and still is one of my favorite tv shows.

  • My mother is buried in that same cemetary under the big green tree in the background at 36 seconds in the video. She has the only raised exposed sarcophogus lid in the whole cemetary. And yes I loved the "Hoss"....

  • Hey, thanks for the information. We love to hear personal touches about the cemeteries.

  • Thanks for sharing.

  • Wow. He died on my Father's birthday, I was 14 at the time, one of the things we did together as Father and Son was to watch "Bonanza" every Sunday night on NBC...Mr. Blocker's character, "Hoss", was my favorite of all the Cartwrights.

I was never able to enjoy the series as much after his death, & it was like NBC just wrote his character off as if he never existed...I've been watching the episodes I have in my home video collection for about a month now, & they all feature "Hoss". I miss him

  • Hoss was a great actor and a good guy.

  • Appropiated weather in visiting one of my favorite actors.

  • Thank you Hoss. My childhood memories!!!

  • We miss you alot Hoss.Don't you worry man. We'll take care of the Ponderosa for you.

  • Hoss was the BEST. All 6 foot 3, 300 plus pounds of him!!! LOVE YOU MAN!! YEAH PAW!!!!!

  • A website listed Dan at 6'4'". I wonder what his true height was. He was a great guy. Miss him.

  • I'm sorry I meant Ora Virgina..I think you said she was 12 years old when she died?

  • Older sister.

  • Ora Blocker was his father

  • Who was Ora Blocker? Anyone know?

  • his father

  • A nobody exploiting a deceased somebody.

  • What, you couldn't squeeze in a Hop Sing reference?

  • ahahah. great stuff man.

  • If Dan could come back and saw what you were doing he'd have Sheriff Coffey on you in no time. I guess apprentice paparazzi have to practice on none-moving celebrities before graduating to the live ones.

  • Those Bonanza references just keep getting funnier and funnier. Redundance is the product of the unclever. What are "none-moving" celebrities? Even snappy comebacks can't survive illiteracy.

  • Jeez! Somebody's gotta get a life! "I visit dead people!" I heard his gravestone was in the shape of a saddle. Dad burn it Pa!

  • What's even sadder is someone having to peddle their "talents" on Youtube because they can't accept the fact that they have minimal talent as a musician.

  • dan blocker is my dad

  • Hoss was also very popular in Germany

  • he is my cousin

  • I live in DeKalb,so I've been here a time or two.

Why is there change on his stone?

  • wonderfull actor.....

  • Dan Blocker is my dads cousin

  • My mother had Dan (well, Mr. Blocker) as a schoolteacher in junior high in Carlsbad. The guy that lived next door to her, Jimmy, had CP and they would carpool (before that term was extant) and when they got to school, Hoss was outside and when he saw them arrive his face would just light up. He would go to the car, grab Jimmy and throw him up onto his shoulder and carry him into the school. Everyone said he was the nicest, most gentle man they knew.

Sad he ended up being a Demoncrap.

  • its so sad noing how sweet he is and hes gone i cried all day

  • Wow. Thanks for the info. We should have talked to you before our trip!

  • If you go into town and visit the chamber of commerce you can see personal items of Dan's, including his high chair as a baby (biggest baby born in that county), and while you are there they have the plane Ricky Nelson died in from a crash that happened 3 miles away.

  • Dan Blocker taught elementary school in my small town of Carlsbad, New Mexico in the mid-1950's.I do not know if the story is true, but I have heard that he was so miserable in Hollywood that he tryed to come back to teach when he was in his Bonanza heyday. they would'nt let him back because the adminisration at the time was afraid that the kids would consider him to be "HOSS" instead of "MR. BLOCKER". He always said he was happier here............

  • Hey, great story. That sounds like Dan. What a down-to-earth, lovely man.

  • je n'arrive pas à croire que les héros de Bonanza nous ont quitté ! je regarde encore leurs videos, j'aimais bien Hoss !

  • great man,great actor

  • c'est bien de pouvoir voir ou il est aujourd'hui, adieu Hoss!

  • That's sad losing an older sister just a few weeks after he turned 5.

  • Dadgummit, Little Joe!

  • Hoss!
