How old are you? And I'd say it's hard to call someone nice if they hate something that is undeniably a part of you. Would you amputate your leg if your parents told you to, or that god would love you more if you did? Even if the surgery didn't hurt? As I have posted numerous times on YouTube, there are many Christian churches that have gay members and gay clergy: the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, the Episcopal Church, the Presbyterian Church, the Metropolitan Community Church, the Universalist Unitarian Church, the United Church of Christ, the Church of Scotland and the United Church of Canada. Anyone who is gay and Christian, and who wants to find a supportive congregation, should seek one of them out.

And for folks who aren't clear about this, these churches don't just have gay members, they welcome them completely and FULLY SUPPORT their gay members and fully support equal rights. The leaders of these churches speak out publicly on these issues in government hearings and public rallies and do lots of work to raise awareness and help pass laws in support of equality. They know that discrimination is wrong and they are working to end it.
Having read some of your comments and the responses, I just want to tell you that you should not go into therapy for being gay or having gay feelings, or anything of the like. If you're doing it for a religious purpose, what god would really have created mankind in a way that is not perfect and beautiful as it is? What you really need is not to be "healed" from being gay or anything other, but to get in touch with sane and nice people, not people that want to "cure" you.

@mbau34214 Many times, when someone starts to realize they are gay they worry about things like that - what their life will be like if they cannot be attracted to the opposite sex, etc. But unlike other minorities, this is one where you can't ask your parents what it was like for them. But once you can find people who understand and can help you, you can see that you can have a really wonderful life full of love and happiness regardless of your orientation. You'll be OK.

I also Googled 'LGBT Teen resources Pennsylvania" and got a huge list of organizations, like "The Attick Youth Center" in Philly. Check them out and see what they have to say.
@mbau34214 Yeah, it looks like there;s lots of resources in Philly but there's some in Pittsburgh too so you can just start with those. I'm still thinking PFLAG would be a good place to start. They are 'Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays' so its mostly straight people who have gay sons and daughters (which may be more comfortable for you). They have all been through what you and your parents are going through and they really can help you.

It's certainly NOT a legitimate form of therapy in any way at all. It's a clear sign that the process is not based on any legitimate psychological therapeutic practices and it may be nothing more than sadistic abuse. You need to find some authority figure you can trust and tell them what is happening. This is serious.

Anyone who is gay and Christian, and who wants to find a supportive congregation, should seek one of them out.

They know that discrimination is wrong and they are working to end it.

And if you would READ THE PROP 8 TRIAL DECISION you would see that the courts thoroughly examined these same arguments and clearly, logically, proved them all to be totally false with tons of evidence. TWICE. The appeals court reached the same conclusions. There are very good reasons for overturning Prop 8.

Some of them 'came out' to their parents a long time ago and their parents did not take it well at first, but it's OK now. @mbau34214 Many times, when someone starts to realize they are gay they worry about things like that - what their life will be like if they cannot be attracted to the opposite sex, etc. But unlike other minorities, this is one where you can't ask your parents what it was like for them. But once you can find people who understand and can help you, you can see that you can have a really wonderful life full of love and happiness regardless of your orientation. You'll be OK.

But again, it's not a popularity contest and rights are not determined by popular vote, they are assured by the Constitution.

I've been doing a few quick searches - you ought to contact the Pennsylvania Student Equality Coalition. They are in Pittsburgh and Philly. I also Googled 'LGBT Teen resources Pennsylvania" and got a huge list of organizations, like "The Attick Youth Center" in Philly. Check them out and see what they have to say.

@mbau34214 Yeah, it looks like there;s lots of resources in Philly but there's some in Pittsburgh too so you can just start with those. I'm still thinking PFLAG would be a good place to start. They are 'Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays' so its mostly straight people who have gay sons and daughters (which may be more comfortable for you). They have all been through what you and your parents are going through and they really can help you.

Tell someone what is going on. You need to know if, for example, maybe what they are doing is not legal. If that is the case, you could have authorities step in and put a stop to it and you could find some legitimate therapy that will give you real help so you can be happy with who you are.

@mbau34214 If they are doing anything that is intended to cause physical pain as a type of aversion therapy, there's a good chance that it is illegal. It's certainly NOT a legitimate form of therapy in any way at all. It's a clear sign that the process is not based on any legitimate psychological therapeutic practices and it may be nothing more than sadistic abuse. You need to find some authority figure you can trust and tell them what is happening. This is serious.

@mbau34214 1. Gay couples already exist. Granting them equal legal rights and protections won't make more gay people or less gay people and it won't increase or decrease your exposure to gays and 'gay culture'. It can be extremely important FOR THEM but it won't affect you at all. When a gay person walks past you, you won't have any idea if they are legally married or not.
