@dancerchick108 cuz its a netbook...netbooks dont come with a cd drive or and have lower level processors than notebooks...what you want is a notebook...netbooks arent good for heavy downloading, you should really only use it for surfing the web, or if ur a student, ms word!

Another thing for those using this to web surf or any other keyboard intensive task. If you attach an inexpensive external keyboard to the Mini (or any netbook), it becomes much easier to use, and the ample 10" screen does the job for casual web surfing. If you need more USB connections, just buy a USB hub that lets you attach a few more USB jacks. They are inexpensive now.

I have the HP 1035 netbook, and it has been a godsend since my main desktop CPU motherboard failed a few months ago. I mainly use my PC to view and process MP4 HD videos (from my Sony Bloggie cam), digital photos, and to surf the web with my cable connection. This HP is my only backup PC, and I love it for web surfing. It plays back my 720p MP4 videos flawlessly as well, before I archive them to my external Iomega and WD drives (use 2 backup drives in case one fails). A great mini PC!

These computers are junk. I have a HP 1116NR with a 16 gig SSD in it. I was having problems with the battery falling out and problems with the machine keeping time. The power plug doesn't stay in and it's slow to boot and connect to the internet. My Sony PCG R505GL runs circles around the mini. The Sony has a P III with a FSB of 133. The ram is 256 megs. I just reinstalled XP and I only have 3.18 gigs of drive space left. I hate when people hype a product just to sell it.

They fill a niche and purpose, and I have had no problems whatsoever with my HP mini for the one plus years i've owned it. The battery did not fall out, and this thing absolutely flies on the net with my cable connection. I am also amazed at how well this little wonder plays back my HD MP4 videos. This screen is fantastic for a netbook.

Just a few years ago, micro sized laptops were so abysmally weak that they couldn't handle anything more than simple web surfing, hence "netbook". Now, we can watch videos, surf the web, play flash games, use Office and do a bunch of other things you'd usually do on a notebook, so calling a netbook a notebook isn't exactly wrong.
