1. He looks at top card

2. he does a Shuffle, forgot the name XD but it keeps the top card on top.

3. Then he cuts it, and he knows the top card is the jack of hearts so he says its the JOH for the top half.

4. Next He takes the top card and since he looked at the unknown card, he can just say the JOH is the 9 of diamonds he just picked up.

Tutorial: All you need to know is the top card of deck. In his case, top card is 9D, so he guesses that the random card will be the 9D, which he then picks up and looks at, and then guesses that the actual 9D is the new card he looked at, in his case Jack Hearts.
