@morello64 ah ok, that is a fair amount :D I know that these are deadly weapons but i would still rather have 100 longbow men than 100 turskishbow men :) just my opinion.
the most of thisTurkish bows (especially during Ottoman times) were more powerfull then the english longbows and the record of was 845 meter or something like that, the most shot at least 400/600 meters if theyre made by proffesionals who have lots of patience to let it rest for a few months(Turks back then let it rest sometimes for years to have the best bow
More likely than not weaker than the longbows found on the Mary Rose that had 160# draw with some heading towards 185#. Flight arrows are going to travel faster than the heavier arrows typically used by English longbows. You give a longbow a flight arrow and see how far it would travel.
I dont think Turkish flight arrows would perform well with an ELB. My guess is that an ELB would break a flight bow. Its a different sort of beast!
While we are talking size (poundage :) ) you may wanna check Adam Karpowicz' s article about the bows in Topkapi Palace Museum. Google "Performance of Turkish Bows by Adam Karpowicz". Also search for our website "tirendaz"...
@shockinfantry I mean the bow is nice and the shooting good, but to say an arrow flew over 800m is pushing it a little too far. I would go for 300 max.
@shockinfantry A long range is feasable and I have no reason to doubt that. It would be good if someone could set up a field test to test some of these bows.

@ddthienvuong if you could understand turkish or a little bit german you can understand how this bowl works and why did Sipahis prefer this bowls to firearms.
Watch video : watch?v=_Mfr87HoLDs
Bowls power come from that's great design. 15th centurys firearms was too slower than that bowls. You must reload them with cotton-black-powder etc. They are both could pierce steel armors of 15th century. (maybe firearms couldn't, i don't know) Which one you would chose.
Turks are mixture of people (mainly native Anatolians and turkic migrants), Mongols are completely different. Ever saw or heard Mongolian? Mongols didnt reach middle East until 13th century.
@OkurkaBinLadin Historically the Turkic tribes originate from northern Asia. As the Asian hordes moved towards the Caucasian-populated Anatolia, they mixed with the people they conquered.(This occured mostly during the Ottoman Empire).
All neo-Turks that look caucasian are Greek,Armenian,Slav etc.
You do realize that you are shooting a right handed bow, left handed.. correct? The arrow should be nocked on the bow hand side of the riser, not the draw hand side.
@walabi83 no you idiot he's putting the arrow on the left side because he is left handed AND using a thumb draw... the arrow is supposed to be on that side of the bow when using a thumb draw with the left hand... the arrow would be on the right if using a thumb draw with the right hand. stop acting like you know stuff. cause you don't. dumbshit. never speak on the internet again
these bows used to while mounted. So first charecteristic of them is fire rate. The range wasnot matter. The Turks used to drive their horses upon enemies while doing this they were shoting as many arrow they can then when the distance geting closer they return and contunie shoting their backs while riding the horse. But the Englishmen were on food so distance was more important for them. But when the Turks coming Anatolia the strategy was changed. The distance was being more important in wars.

Btw i have nothing against the yanks i just have issues with this hills have eyes goony raping glow in the dark family rapist muel basher.
@adyona Thats nice shooting and a nice bow , great noise when the arrow strikes home ! :* You think english longbow is a good idea for a newbie ? I am strong enough to handle its power ,but should I start with this or any other bow ?
A longbow is fairly difficult to master. They generally have fairly large draw weights and can be hard to aim for new users. If you're simply looking for ease of shooting, compound bows will give you more poundage for less work because they use pulleys, and are also the most common type seen these days. Recurves are also pretty common and aren't too difficult. But the only way to truly learn how to shoot a longbow is to practice with one. It depends on why you're shooting.
I'd personally buy this bow instead of the modern compound bow. Not to say that modern comps are bad, it's just that I'm never comfortable with all the gadgetry that gets in the way of my loading every shot...
Its a cool looking bow and it has a very beautiful motion. I don't think it would make a good hunting bow though. You can literally see the arrow leaving in the video, that means it is quite slow. Additionally it is very loud, a deer would hear that and drop immediately. New compound bows are slightly louder than a finger snap and the arrows are moving at a ridiculously fast 200+ mph. It is extremely easy to get good with a modern compound. Not so with a bow like this.
Stop swearing! Get your message across without cursing! You have until tomorrow to reply with a grown up response. After that I will delete your message and block you...
The arrows in this video were carbon if I remember correctly. Turks used to make arrows from all sorts of wood, including reed and bamboo. The most common was pine though...
@adyona as a not of advice... firing carbon fibre arrows off your hand isnt a very smart idea... if the fibres splinter and grips your hand it will go into ur hand proving to be very painful and sometimes deadly... dont think im calling you dumb or anything... just sum constructive criticism
@5tonyvvvv wow, pine ive tried to use pine and fir.cause thats what people tell me..but i can never find any that is an even length..i trim them down, but it never works.there always too brittle. i heat treat them over a fire.to strainten them.but they usually crack.maybe its the wrong kind of pine and fir trees, down here in florida.than in turkey..ill stick to river cane and reed
Interesting and cool bow :O I prefer my nice big bows like English longbow or Indian style (Native American) but I know some people who would love this, I like its small compact design, I am also really into ancient things history and love archery, so if anybody could point me to something on the history of these little bows I would be happy :D
@miles305678 there is a german documentary about these bows. they actually tested this one in a auto crash test facility and apperently the bows travel with 240 kmh which makes about 150 mph. so they can pierce the armors of those times. also its much much faster compared to a gun to load and shoot.
@rondar2 I wonder what weapons would be like today, if we continued to use spring action and tention to propel projectiles? mechanical energy can be just as good as explosive energy.
@miles305678 Gasoline engine-powered, magazine-fed full-auto ballistas with a range of 500 yards-plus maybe? (Assuming technology developed just as in our reality, except for guns and rockets never being invented.)
Such rapid-fire weapons would likely have to be large, crew-served devices. Without gunpowder, individual weapons would remain basically human muscle-powered (single-shot crossbows, ect.); thusly swords, ect. would still be important weapons. (It would be a VERY different world...)
@bjggjb Interesting thoughts, induvidual weapons could have ended up electric powered bow weapons, or swords that fold neatly into your pocket too maybe? hehe anyway interesting food for thought!
@miles305678 Check out Cold Steel's folding knife, the "Espada" - they bill it as a "pocket sword" for the "modern day conquistador." Of course this knife is an oversized, ugly (IMHO), ungainly beast and I will never own one, but it DOES make you wonder what individual weapons would be like in a world where guns had never been invented. (Not to mention the hopelessness of "gun control" as a means of stopping people from killing each other.)
@enkhbattsenguun I prefer a nice heavy bow, like the english ones that can shoot nearly a mile, however could never use a english bow well indoors, or on horseback as these could. I think they are all "Different" not nessesarily better.
@miles305678 mongol bows are light little and u can shoot it from horse and the best thing is shoots far from any other bow even far from english long bow
@miles305678 I think you do not know about distance record made with this Turkish bow in history with one of the Ottoman archer ( Tozkoparan Iskender) record was 846 m and most strongest English bow can only make 300 m
@enkhbattsenguun however an english longbow takes less time to make (back than) cause the mongol bow was made of little strips of wood glued together while the longbow of one solid piece and i think the range is about te same
@miles305678 what makes this bow master of all others is you can use it on horseback with exellent power and great accuracy, no other bow in that had same abilities, wich resultulted in undefeatable light cavellry for ages
@videoaddictmma Not in all ways, english longbow was rated 3rd greatest (Effective and Reliable) weapon of all time above most guns, because of its large and powerful prjectile (penetrated bullet vest and armor, and its accuracy, it only lost 2nd due to the skill required to use it, and longbow has recently been proven to have been used from horseback. This bow was better in many ways too, and I would actually prefer it over the English bow, I like its sniping power, and it easier to use.
Traditional bows, to me, are REAL archery. Composite bows like this are true examples of ancient "hi-tech" in the context of the societies which developed them. (BTW, anybody else find compound bows to be an abomination? They are ugly, marginally more effective than composite bows like the one in this video, have zero historical interest, require cumbersome accessories like trigger releases, and lose their value from year to year faster than computers do.)
Perhaps the best thing about archery is that no one will force you to shoot a bow you don't like.
Isn't indeed wonderful to know that you can actually shoot what ever bow style you choose along side and together with others who are equally free to pursue archery in their own way.
Personally I see the beauty and art in all forms of archery and appreciate the skills no matter what equipment is to be used.
Hello! im new to archery and i want to start, but at the store they only sell bows for right hand archers, i see that you release the string with your left hand and hold the bow with your right, is that right hand archery? if it's not, should you learn to do the oposite or is it any website that sell bows for both handed? /thanks
I am left eye dominant, thats why I shoot like that. Check my other vids, there are right hand shooters in our group. what sort of bow do you use? Any pictures?

Real turkish bows are 2 times more efficient / powerful than longbow of same poundage .
Real turkish bows are one made before 1920 .
But the genuine turkish bow crafting technology was lost around 1920 when ottoman empire and its archery club did perish ....

It is extremely easy to get good with a modern compound. Not so with a bow like this.

@adyona what are the arrows made from? do they use reed or cane ? or bamboo
5tonyvvvv 1 year ago
@5tonyvvvv
The arrows in this video were carbon if I remember correctly. Turks used to make arrows from all sorts of wood, including reed and bamboo. The most common was pine though...
adyona 1 year ago
@adyona as a not of advice... firing carbon fibre arrows off your hand isnt a very smart idea... if the fibres splinter and grips your hand it will go into ur hand proving to be very painful and sometimes deadly... dont think im calling you dumb or anything... just sum constructive criticism
sk83r4life1 1 year ago
@5tonyvvvv wow, pine ive tried to use pine and fir.cause thats what people tell me..but i can never find any that is an even length..i trim them down, but it never works.there always too brittle. i heat treat them over a fire.to strainten them.but they usually crack.maybe its the wrong kind of pine and fir trees, down here in florida.than in turkey..ill stick to river cane and reed

Nice bow
tblach04 1 year ago
Interesting and cool bow :O I prefer my nice big bows like English longbow or Indian style (Native American) but I know some people who would love this, I like its small compact design, I am also really into ancient things history and love archery, so if anybody could point me to something on the history of these little bows I would be happy :D

@miles305678 there is a german documentary about these bows. they actually tested this one in a auto crash test facility and apperently the bows travel with 240 kmh which makes about 150 mph. so they can pierce the armors of those times. also its much much faster compared to a gun to load and shoot.
rondar2 1 year ago
@rondar2 I wonder what weapons would be like today, if we continued to use spring action and tention to propel projectiles? mechanical energy can be just as good as explosive energy.
miles305678 1 year ago
@miles305678 Gasoline engine-powered, magazine-fed full-auto ballistas with a range of 500 yards-plus maybe? (Assuming technology developed just as in our reality, except for guns and rockets never being invented.)
Such rapid-fire weapons would likely have to be large, crew-served devices. Without gunpowder, individual weapons would remain basically human muscle-powered (single-shot crossbows, ect.); thusly swords, ect. would still be important weapons. (It would be a VERY different world...)
bjggjb 1 year ago
@bjggjb Interesting thoughts, induvidual weapons could have ended up electric powered bow weapons, or swords that fold neatly into your pocket too maybe? hehe anyway interesting food for thought!
miles305678 1 year ago
@miles305678 Check out Cold Steel's folding knife, the "Espada" - they bill it as a "pocket sword" for the "modern day conquistador." Of course this knife is an oversized, ugly (IMHO), ungainly beast and I will never own one, but it DOES make you wonder what individual weapons would be like in a world where guns had never been invented. (Not to mention the hopelessness of "gun control" as a means of stopping people from killing each other.)

@miles305678 mongols have the best bow in the world
enkhbattsenguun 1 year ago
@enkhbattsenguun I prefer a nice heavy bow, like the english ones that can shoot nearly a mile, however could never use a english bow well indoors, or on horseback as these could. I think they are all "Different" not nessesarily better.
miles305678 1 year ago
@miles305678 mongol bows are light little and u can shoot it from horse and the best thing is shoots far from any other bow even far from english long bow
enkhbattsenguun 1 year ago
@miles305678 I think you do not know about distance record made with this Turkish bow in history with one of the Ottoman archer ( Tozkoparan Iskender) record was 846 m and most strongest English bow can only make 300 m
ercintr 1 year ago
@enkhbattsenguun they had the best cavalry bow not the best infantry bow
wariscomeing 1 year ago
@wariscomeing to say this its already confirmed that mongol bow shoots farther than english long bow
enkhbattsenguun 1 year ago
@enkhbattsenguun however an english longbow takes less time to make (back than) cause the mongol bow was made of little strips of wood glued together while the longbow of one solid piece and i think the range is about te same
chuckletable 1 year ago
@miles305678 what makes this bow master of all others is you can use it on horseback with exellent power and great accuracy, no other bow in that had same abilities, wich resultulted in undefeatable light cavellry for ages
tecellos 1 year ago
@miles305678 The composite bow is much greater than the longbow or any native bow.
videoaddictmma 1 year ago
@videoaddictmma Not in all ways, english longbow was rated 3rd greatest (Effective and Reliable) weapon of all time above most guns, because of its large and powerful prjectile (penetrated bullet vest and armor, and its accuracy, it only lost 2nd due to the skill required to use it, and longbow has recently been proven to have been used from horseback. This bow was better in many ways too, and I would actually prefer it over the English bow, I like its sniping power, and it easier to use.
miles305678 1 year ago
Now THERE is a bow I'd like to own...

@bjggjb
Thanks for the comment. Although I only shoot traditional, I cant say I dislike compounds. They are just different.

@adyona will catgut work from sheep intestines? for bow string
5tonyvvvv 1 year ago
@bjggjb

@bjggjb I agree :D
miles305678 1 year ago
@bjggjb i know i hate the compound bows tha are so retarted looking and all these accessories make them 20x worse than a traditional bow
bobdull123 1 year ago
Hello! im new to archery and i want to start, but at the store they only sell bows for right hand archers, i see that you release the string with your left hand and hold the bow with your right, is that right hand archery? if it's not, should you learn to do the oposite or is it any website that sell bows for both handed? /thanks
