  • ...i`m waiting, ... so beautiful

  • come here i think your beautiful, so beautiful, ...

  • Is this their most underrated song? Not enough tSoM fans would list this near the top. One of my faves and maybe #1.

  • One of their best

  • how the hell do I put my guitar to sound like this? is it chorus pedal?

  • GOD. I'd forgotten how incredible this is. This song got me through an awful breakup too.

  • this is one of my top ten sisters of mercy songs

  • I can understand your point of view. Soo, many bands that are "goth" are really parodies. Yet, when I was listening to Joy Division back in 79, there was no "goth" I could say there was post punk? Perhaps it has devolved in to something else? Do not know.

  • Back then I drank cheap beer and vodka- today, expensive scotch. Back then I thought "I read too much." Today, I can't remember what I read and why I thought it was so damned important. Back then, I thought I waited in vain. Today, I realize that I was actually living- angst ridden and misguided, but alive. Back then, I thought I was wasting my time. Today, all I want to do is wait for that train one more time...

  • kill me or kill u

  • Love this song love the sisters

  • amazing to hear that again after 20+ years -aged 43, overweight, reminiscing about my days as a skinny teenage indie fan

  • @dangerousdavies49 crikey - me too. actually thought i'd written that!

  • what can i say a bout this song it beutiful

  • nur noch tanzen, tanzen, tanzen, yeah, wie vor 25 Jahren. Danke fürs posten

  • thank you andrew

  • Reminds me of my first girlfriend

  • @siouxsieandziggy Me too...

For some reason, this was always my favorite Sisters song. I used to rewind the cassette over and over again until the song finally began to distort. I still pop that tape in the player once in a while.

  • 20 odd years ago....dark room...... headphones cranked....... and still love it

  • First &Last and ALWAYS-My Beloved Sisters Of Mercy

    Love YOU to death.

  • I love this song so much it hurts. Simple as that.

  • Thats fantastic song.

  • epic stuff

  • Always loved this track - dark, intense, atmospheric. Goth music at its best. Only equalled by Fields of the Nephilim, in my humble opinion

  • @simonreza

YOU r so right. LOVE FON as well

  • love this tune 20 odd yrs l8r :)

  • this song is so great but so sad. <3

  • No one I know like this they say it's wussy, listen do you remember a time when Angels do you remember a time when fear, in the time when days where shorter in the time when you weren't here

  • Fuck the shit, this is so HARD!!!!

  • The BEST ALBUM FIRST AND LAST AND ALWAYS |,,|.

    I LIKE THIS TUNESSSS

  • @Noobdu13 Ich kann leider kein englich, aber ich find die musik sehr gut

  • @cindy83902 lol ich auch net so gut aber die mugge ist trotzdem geil ^^

  • the best album first and last anf always .|,,|

    i love this tunessss

  • 42 persons are not real humans!

I'm gonna get my girlfriend from the train now :)

  • @sinisteracoustics 42 persons were stillborn

  • Best sisters song...

    The train will come!!

  • my second fav sisters song (after Driven Like The Snow)

  • haunting and yes aren't we all waiting for the train in some way still?

  • In my opinion the best song by The Sisters Of Mercy!

  • One of the most underrated Sisters songs. What's with the high dislike ratio?

  • Waiting, how I remember waiting. God, how I waited- high and waiting, for her. God, how I remember. And how I remember listening to this song while i waited. Over and over again, while I waited. Nine while nine and I waited, for her call.

I love this song. It truly captured that feeling.

  • One of my faves from this album...

  • Wow, I really love Sisters of Mercy, all theyr lyrics are always intelligent and I think that "First and last and always" is a masterpiece!

  • love this song so much...especially the guitar theme

  • very strong peacefull song

  • Simple, raw beauty.

  • The best track that Eldritch ever wrote...period....it was always downhill after this masterpiece album

  • Song of my life - song of my loves.

  • I think this song has no irony, only sadness, andrew in a bad day. Fortunatelly for us.

  • Ive hung around Leeds train station and by Christ its the most soul destroying places on earth...Andrew I know what ya went through.....

  • My all time fave song...yeah I suppose it still is though being a Goth was just a transition thing for me...Im glad I didnt end like one of those 'Aging' Goths who still try to dress the way they did when they were 19/20....Its sad because Goth was really only meant to be about 'here and now'...but people have made it into a present-day genre....I don't think it was ever meant to be like that...Anyway...one can still dream of one's youth..

  • great memories, raiders in preston and the banshe in manchester....them were the days...

  • @hah03 You said it!! The best of times! The Banshee was just a fantastic place!! Many drunken happy memories! Wonderful! :-)))))

  • One of my favorite albums ever. I wore out the vinyl -listened to it every time I was depressed. I wish they'd do a concert of just this album.

  • @RochelleMG ... i have listened to this album at least once a week for the last 20 yrs , what a band

  • Frost upon these cigarettes Lipstick on the window pane and I've Lost all sense of the world outside but I Can't forget so I call your name and I'm Looking for a life for me and I'm Looking for a life for you and I'm Talking to myself again and it's So damn cold it's just not true and I'm Walking through the rain Trying to hold on waiting for the train and I'm Only looking for what you want but it's Lonely here and I think you knew and I'm And I'm waiting And I wait in vain....for the train..
  • whoooo fucking trippy sound, loving this.

  • First* Last * & Always...

-Gary Marx, Greg Adams, Wayne Hussey, Andrew Eldritch & Dr. Avalanche

  • the best album, lets go SISTERS!!!!!!

  • yeah, AE knows that labels limit everything once you accept a label - you're doomed. by the way, Morrison and the doors were goth too!

  • I love this song!! The depth on Andrew's voice, the feeling he has when he sings this song its just amazing!! One of the best songs written by Mr. Eldritch

  • Sisters Of Mercy managed (to me, at least) to never become cliche or obvious with their music, while so many other 'goth' bands are mere parodies of themselves. And the emotion in his voice in this song just kills me. Love it.

  • amazing.

  • Nine while Nine9

  • I can relate to this song a lot. I think it's about not being able to get over an old lover / friend. The narrator is waiting for that person to come back into his life, meanwhile cherishing all the memories he has with her. The line that really does it for me is, "And I've lost all sense of the world outside." I think this really shows how desperate he feels... if you read the lyrics closely, it is very obvious. Great song.

  • Nine while nine...dont knw wht this song is about but the guitars are badass!

  • Yeah from my youth too NevaEva4Eva...I must have wallowed in the ruin of my youth listening to this stuff....oh to be young again!!! I love this song...its so 'me'...it reminds me of what I was when I was young and it makes me all goose pimpled!!

  • The Sisters -- my youth

  • Same -- though I'm only 16

  • Love this damn song!!!

  • It's 09/09/09 And I'm Waiting For The Train.

  • The Sisters were labelled "goth" and "death rock" but actually idolized American proto-punk like Iggy and The Stooges. They ended up inventing a sound by default, never getting a real drummer and a singer who really couldn't sing. And yet Andrew delivers some of the most emotional performances- just like Ian Curtis. It's the passion that counts, not the beauty.

  • Iggy and Stooges???!!! Sure and Pet Shop Boys and Thompson Twins and ... why do self acclaimed #Music Critics' always have to show up with pseudo knowledge just because they have listened to more than one Act?!

Sisters are a class of their own and I guess Andrew never even listened to Stooges crap!

  • Hey dipshit. Read the liner notes from "Some Girls Wander...", which Andrew wrote. The Sisters loving the Stooges is from HIS mouth, not mine. If you were around when they were actually together, and buying the vinyl singles, you'd know that. You're probably one of the fuckheads who think Bauhaus didn't borrow their style from Bowie and TRex, too.

  • just as all self-acclaimed critics, you obviously do not like to be criticized and turn vulgar insults... ty nicki (btw I have listened to Sisters from the very beginning and it never came accross to me that they might have 'idolized Iggy and the Stooge' Just as irrelevant as labelling them goth or whatever ... just labels - boring!

  • P.S. Sisters are TOTALLY in a class of their own. I'd never dispute that. They're one of my all time favorite bands.

  • Stooges "Crap"?!! F* Shtthpppthhtt !!

  • @dustinzk you are boring. stooges rock. get a life and out of your world.

  • get a life? what r u talking about? I don't know you and you don't know me so scarcrow do what you do best - stay silent!

  • It's completely silly to judge the Stooges - or any band - on their genre. And besides, they weren't even rock, go listen to Raw Power. Apparently a lot of non-mainstream artists name them as an inspiration. That doesn't mean you have to like them, too, but how about putting your own taste into perspective a bit?

  • @dustinzk IM WITH YA

  • clearly the best nummer....

  • Out alone, in the setting sun, got lost in this CD, mall shopping while stationed in VA. Good memories.

  • some bands who were inspired by sisters went on to classify as goth, now people who hear sisters after hearing those bands will probably classify it as goth.

we use words like 'goth' to help us identify music with similar sounds or moods, think of it as a tool more than anything else. I dont think anybody believes andrew walks around looking like marilyn manson or LAM, so what's the concern...

  • hobyestx you coment rocks, and this is a cool song, always reminds me of being strung.

  • best band ever

  • Eldritch says they have nothing to do with goth. I want to believe him, and I do, but what do they play really, if not goth?

  • Yes, it is the pre-cursor of Goth, but, it is much less slavishly devoted to the form than what is there now. Noone could really call Andrew a "GothTard". This is just good angst; "Goth" has become a parody of bands such as this and Bauhaus.

  • Don't forget about the Sexgang Children and Zero Le Creche.

  • Back in late 80's we called all this Death Rock and we were Death Rockers.

Then came all the lace/velvet Gothic folk....(not saying that they were always around prior, but the early 90's really exploded re: "Goth"-ness and "Death Rock" all but disappeared, culturally).

  • *weren't* always around prior....I meant.

  • Comment removed

  • early new wave i thinks but its just good who cares what it is

  • Every time he says that I just think 'Talk about biting the hand that feeds.'

  • looking for a life for me =(

  • the ultimate goth band, then gary craig and wayne fucked off and left eldritch to produce a whole load of shite after Fiirst and last and always.

  • my all time fav Sisters song.

  • Mine too!

  • this is the only and real gothic!

  • Hey, I appreciate this song plenty, but are you sure this is the ultimate gothic song?

I think it's definately in the top 5, but to call it "ultimate" kinda puts a nail or three into a coffin I would prefer remained open!

You don't want to immobilize Andrew and his successors in a coffin, do you?! That would be very unkind.

  • nice voice!!! nice song!!! +1000000

  • i'm go berserk when i here this one of a kind GOTHIC MUSIC. do you have a video of this song?

  • Comment removed

  • They are not goth!

  • so are they vamp?

    (south park reference...)

  • so what are they? :-)

  • rock 'n' roll!

  • :-)

They became a rock 'n' roll band with Vision Thing, but drfinately Goth prior, surely.

  • Comment removed

  • wahnsinn, ich fühle mich 25 Jahre jünger...

    lipstick on my cigarette

  • Even if the band had stayed toghether, the music would have gone down... and we probably would not have a new CD either...

(Vision thing probably would have been more of a mission uk thing, then we would not have any more because of the record company thing...

  • simply one of the best sisters of mercy songs ever.. that and maybe walk away
