I can understand your point of view. Soo, many bands that are "goth" are really parodies. Yet, when I was listening to Joy Division back in 79, there was no "goth" I could say there was post punk? Perhaps it has devolved in to something else? Do not know.
Back then I drank cheap beer and vodka- today, expensive scotch. Back then I thought "I read too much." Today, I can't remember what I read and why I thought it was so damned important. Back then, I thought I waited in vain. Today, I realize that I was actually living- angst ridden and misguided, but alive. Back then, I thought I was wasting my time. Today, all I want to do is wait for that train one more time...
For some reason, this was always my favorite Sisters song. I used to rewind the cassette over and over again until the song finally began to distort. I still pop that tape in the player once in a while.
No one I know like this they say it's wussy, listen do you remember a time when Angels do you remember a time when fear, in the time when days where shorter in the time when you weren't here
Waiting, how I remember waiting. God, how I waited- high and waiting, for her. God, how I remember. And how I remember listening to this song while i waited. Over and over again, while I waited. Nine while nine and I waited, for her call.
My all time fave song...yeah I suppose it still is though being a Goth was just a transition thing for me...Im glad I didnt end like one of those 'Aging' Goths who still try to dress the way they did when they were 19/20....Its sad because Goth was really only meant to be about 'here and now'...but people have made it into a present-day genre....I don't think it was ever meant to be like that...Anyway...one can still dream of one's youth..
Frost upon these cigarettes Lipstick on the window pane and I've Lost all sense of the world outside but I Can't forget so I call your name and I'm Looking for a life for me and I'm Looking for a life for you and I'm Talking to myself again and it's So damn cold it's just not true and I'm Walking through the rain Trying to hold on waiting for the train and I'm Only looking for what you want but it's Lonely here and I think you knew and I'm And I'm waiting And I wait in vain....for the train..
I love this song!! The depth on Andrew's voice, the feeling he has when he sings this song its just amazing!! One of the best songs written by Mr. Eldritch
Sisters Of Mercy managed (to me, at least) to never become cliche or obvious with their music, while so many other 'goth' bands are mere parodies of themselves. And the emotion in his voice in this song just kills me. Love it.
I can relate to this song a lot. I think it's about not being able to get over an old lover / friend. The narrator is waiting for that person to come back into his life, meanwhile cherishing all the memories he has with her. The line that really does it for me is, "And I've lost all sense of the world outside." I think this really shows how desperate he feels... if you read the lyrics closely, it is very obvious. Great song.
Yeah from my youth too NevaEva4Eva...I must have wallowed in the ruin of my youth listening to this stuff....oh to be young again!!! I love this song...its so 'me'...it reminds me of what I was when I was young and it makes me all goose pimpled!!
The Sisters were labelled "goth" and "death rock" but actually idolized American proto-punk like Iggy and The Stooges. They ended up inventing a sound by default, never getting a real drummer and a singer who really couldn't sing. And yet Andrew delivers some of the most emotional performances- just like Ian Curtis. It's the passion that counts, not the beauty.
Iggy and Stooges???!!! Sure and Pet Shop Boys and Thompson Twins and ... why do self acclaimed #Music Critics' always have to show up with pseudo knowledge just because they have listened to more than one Act?!
Sisters are a class of their own and I guess Andrew never even listened to Stooges crap!
Hey dipshit. Read the liner notes from "Some Girls Wander...", which Andrew wrote. The Sisters loving the Stooges is from HIS mouth, not mine. If you were around when they were actually together, and buying the vinyl singles, you'd know that. You're probably one of the fuckheads who think Bauhaus didn't borrow their style from Bowie and TRex, too.
just as all self-acclaimed critics, you obviously do not like to be criticized and turn vulgar insults... ty nicki (btw I have listened to Sisters from the very beginning and it never came accross to me that they might have 'idolized Iggy and the Stooge' Just as irrelevant as labelling them goth or whatever ... just labels - boring!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Yeah you got it right! Stooges is crap - Rock in general is absolutely boring - and the more it became obvious in Sisters 'Vision (Thing'), that they went that way, they became boring as well. First and last and always should have come up to the title and Sisters would still be legends. The rest was just that ... boring Rock!
It's completely silly to judge the Stooges - or any band - on their genre. And besides, they weren't even rock, go listen to Raw Power. Apparently a lot of non-mainstream artists name them as an inspiration. That doesn't mean you have to like them, too, but how about putting your own taste into perspective a bit?
some bands who were inspired by sisters went on to classify as goth, now people who hear sisters after hearing those bands will probably classify it as goth.
we use words like 'goth' to help us identify music with similar sounds or moods, think of it as a tool more than anything else. I dont think anybody believes andrew walks around looking like marilyn manson or LAM, so what's the concern...
Yes, it is the pre-cursor of Goth, but, it is much less slavishly devoted to the form than what is there now. Noone could really call Andrew a "GothTard". This is just good angst; "Goth" has become a parody of bands such as this and Bauhaus.
Back in late 80's we called all this Death Rock and we were Death Rockers.
Then came all the lace/velvet Gothic folk....(not saying that they were always around prior, but the early 90's really exploded re: "Goth"-ness and "Death Rock" all but disappeared, culturally).
