Willie can do the old standards with the best of them. It was Stardust that got me hooked on Willie and I think I now have most of his CDs!! He cannot be put in any genre of music as he can sing and play any thing he sets his mind to.
what always impressed me about willie is that he is one of the "very few" country artists who plays country music on a nylon string, "classical guitar". Very unusual for a country player.......

3:11 video: "Stardust" is an American popular song composed in 1927 by Hoagy Carmichael with lyrics added in 1929 by Mitchell Parish (July 10, 1900 – March 31, 1993). Sung by Willie Nelson.
I always loved this record, but it seemed to be a very noisy record. Probably the type of music made the ticks and pops more obvious. I will have to get the CD to see if it was cleaned up.
In 2004, Carmichael's original 1927 recording of the song was one of 50 recordings chosen by the Library of Congress to be added to the National Recording Registry. Willie Nelson's cover of the song was used to wake up the crew of Space Shuttle mission STS-97 on their second flight day.[11 Wikipedia
I'm really glad Willie went against the tide (when doesn't he) and recorded his Stardust album. In doing so he reimagined these songs in a way that nobody but he could.
Wow... How did I ever miss this... I must have still been using boilermakers for nightcaps the night this was on... How cool to have Willie and Branford trading phrases...
I love how Willie declaims the lyrics like Judy Garland did, and the way Derek Jacobi does Shakespeare: As if it's occurring to them right on the spot.
This is one of the best songs ever written. I often play the LP version over and over and I never get sick of it. Willie did a great job when he recorded that song back in '77 for the Stardust LP.
RIP Joey your never forgotten, by me or your daughter....
